The Vinculum

Kasuto is now 30 years old. In recognition of this fact, I encourage all of you to give me $30. Anyone? Well, it was worth a shot. At least now I can resonably complain about "kids these days."

Exactly the point I was trying to make in that fiasco of a fic.

No one cares. Someone get that "This is the room of the people who care" Image macro for me.

If you have a personal dispute with someone else, solve it directly with that other member. The mods aren't here to get rid of people that you don't like.

...plus, if you don't want criticsm, why do you ask for it? If they think your fanfic isn't that great, do you expect them to lie? If you don't want people to tell you that your fanfic sucks, don't ask for a honest opinion and then complain about it when you don't get what you wanted to hear.

I'm going to move this topic to Fan Fiction Discussion because this is not a complaint about the forum itself or Kasuto.net. Provided the discussion remains reasonable and does not deteriorate into flames, it can stay open.

I hate to break it to you, but you should be happy that someone cares enough about this story to give it critism. Besides, it could be worse. They could just flame the story with the usual "OMG ur sotry is dah SUXOOOORS!!11!!!!"

Unfortunatly, this isn't FF.net where you aren't that likely to get all the praise that you want. This is a place where the writers like to get their work critiqued and worked on. Granted, I think that it helps to get a little praise with your work with the critiques, but if I were to only get the latter, then I would welcome it (unlike a few years ago <.< >.>) and if I agreed with it, I would change it.

Heck, the story in question is lucky to get the critism that it does. I practically have to beg my friends to give me stuff.

Exactly, if nobody gives concrit, it pretty much means they don't really care about the story. Concrit means they care enough to try to help you get better.

WHAT?!? Somebody made a topic like THIS, and I don't see it 'till it's got two pages? Criminal.

dekudiva wrote:
1. Okay, first of all, the people on the message board are way too nasty. Or at least, a lot of them.
Yes, some people on the message board are FRIENDS. It doesn't mean that they are suck-ups.
I am NOT a suck up to Dark Kirby. I think she is a good writer, and if she keeps going and stuff she'll be fine.
And some of the people here are STUCK-ups.

ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT. Just so you realize, this is the most obscenely friendly message board on, basically, the internet. Message boards are a haven for trolls and George Carlin fans like me- be glad your silly ass didn't stumble onto Something Awful.

dekudiva wrote:
2. Okay, on the fanfics thingy, you hardly get any encouagment. They SAY it's "Constructive Critisem", but, really, it's not.
It's actually REALLY annoying, for readers and the author, to have this as a reply:
Blablabla wrote:
Blablabla... ...blablabla
It should really be:
Blablabla... ...blablabla
That's annoying. People say that "If you only ever get replies that say: Good Job! then you won't improve".
I say, "Yes, it's good to get better, but if you never get any encouragment, that's even worse."

So. You're not even flaming the sarcastic reviews, but all forms of criticism as a whole? You're an embarassment to writing. I get actively pissed off when a review consists of "awesome I hope [insert primitive, fangirlish opinion of future plot developments here]." By the way, most people who need encouragement have low self-esteem. Most people who have low self-esteem have earned it. See? George Carlin fanaticism.

dekudiva wrote:
3. Okay, a certain girl(no names mentioned) said most of this. She also spoke for everyone on the message board.
She said we ALL do this, and we ALL do this, and everyone should critizise everyone's work.
It really made me mad, so I spoke to her. Anyway, as I said before, I believe in encouragement.

And I believe in criticism, because it has practical application. And it's consistently honest, which encouragement seldom is.

dekudiva wrote:
4. The fourth thing is, not EVERYONE falls under any of these catagories. Like myself, for instance.
The thing is, some people don't except the fact that you have to start SOMEWHERE.
What, do they expect people to wake up one morning and be as talented as J.K.Rowling(Harry Potter) or C.S.Lewis(Narnia)?

Right. So now you start arguing for criticism? Wow, a self-defeating argument. What'll they invent next?

dekudiva wrote:
Not everyone is like this. I know that, for people who are gonna respond. Some people are(not perfect)nicer and critisize when necisary.
I'm afriad(No, I'm not perfect, either) that I am like that.
And, if I still have people, calling me a "suck up", being really annoying, speaking for everyone, and expecting people to be published authors on mine, or Dark Kirby's reviews, I'm gonna forget I ever Strolled into the message board.
Thankyou.

It's always necessary. Even Kasuto needs a little commentary here and there (love talk getting repetitive, plots trending more cliched, sparse grammar issues) and, as novelism goes, he's pretty much the best fanauthor known. Again, if you think indulging fantastic, egotistical delusions is nicer than actually helping, you shouldn't be behind a word processor. You should be behind a TV tuned in to pre-school programming twenty-four hours a day, because that's the only thing out there that won't make you cry. And again, find a message board that is, per capita, "nicer," Bongo Bill will eat my hat. More Carlin fanaticism, see? BWAHAHA.

I dream not only of being a writer, but of being a critic, and you offend both my professions.

I just thought I would point something out here.

Not trying to take sides, but I thought I could make a small comment here.

The members here aren't as bad as you have said. Trust me, I've seen worse. If you want to see a story truly ripped apart, try GAFF.

On the other hand, if you still want me to help with the fics, just send me an IM if you get messenger.

I'm on AIM as "N00bExtrodinaire" or YIM as "Ace_Of_Bleeding_Hearts"

Bullshit

Be fucking grateful that you get a response. I have been writting for years and people never say a word.
So please stop trolling and grow a spine. Critism is like pruning, it helps you grow

I have a small question, who is George Carlin and should I be afraid of him? :?

Another thing is that practice makes perfect, when I was going through my A-Levels or training for the Fire Service I took every bit of criticism and turned it too my advantage and improved my abilities, without criticism you will never know where you are going wrong. YES YES criticism is one of the most annoying things you will ever get, but in the end it will do you a world of good sort of like what parents did to make sure you didn't turn out like a little gob****e, because they love you.
