Okay, I have a few complaints, for anyone who'll listen.
1. Okay, first of all, the people on the message board are way too nasty. Or at least, a lot of them. Yes, some people on the message board are FRIENDS. It doesn't mean that they are suck-ups. I am NOT a suck up to Dark Kirby. I think she is a good writer, and if she keeps going and stuff she'll be fine. And some of the people here are STUCK-ups. No one really cares who you follow, and who you don't follow. I've read the eleven posts that you've made, and no one has called you a suck up. No one really cares who you follow. I follow Kasuto's works, and a few other people. I enjoy their work and I review them. That does not make me a suck up. No one has said that you are either. Quote: 2. Okay, on the fanfics thingy, you hardly get any encouagment. They SAY it's "Constructive Critisem", but, really, it's not. It's actually REALLY annoying, for readers and the author, to have this as a reply: Blablabla wrote: Blablabla... ...blablabla It should really be: Blablabla... ...blablabla That's annoying. People say that "If you only ever get replies that say: Good Job! then you won't improve". I say, "Yes, it's good to get better, but if you never get any encouragment, that's even worse." The constructive criticism that the author in question has received is correct. The work will be analysed and then ripped to shit. I used to haunt the fan works area, and I would tell people where they have gone wrong. If grammar is incorrect, then it needs to be corrected. There is no two ways about it. If you're trying to write a story, and the grammar is such a hindrance that it leads to misunderstanding, then it needs to be fixed. The people who have posted and slightly edited what has been written are correct in doing so. It's called constructive criticism. They've not gone: "Your work is a load of shit, it burns my eyes to read it. If I could chop your fingers off I would do, as then no one would have to read that. You've polluted the English language!". That is a flame, not: "Fix area X because it's misleading". Quote: 3. Okay, a certain girl(no names mentioned) said most of this. She also spoke for everyone on the message board. She said we ALL do this, and we ALL do this, and everyone should critizise everyone's work. It really made me mad, so I spoke to her. Anyway, as I said before, I believe in encouragement. Rayven was right in what she said. Elflord was also right in what he said. Furthermore, everyone has their worked critiqued. JK Rowling has her work ripped to shit all over the place. Tolkien does also. To make yourself better, you need to have someone else's work ripped to shit so you can see the mistakes. Blind encouragement does not create better work. It creates stagnation. Quote: 4. The fourth thing is, not EVERYONE falls under any of these catagories. Like myself, for instance. The thing is, some people don't except the fact that you have to start SOMEWHERE. What, do they expect people to wake up one morning and be as talented as J.K.Rowling(Harry Potter) or C.S.Lewis(Narnia)? People do start somewhere. No one has claimed different. Yet, it normally helps when there is a plotline that someone else can follow. You do not write for yourself, you write for others. So you need someone else to follow it. Quote: Not everyone is like this. I know that, for people who are gonna respond. Some people are(not perfect)nicer and critisize when necisary. I'm afriad(No, I'm not perfect, either) that I am like that. And, if I still have people, calling me a "suck up", being really annoying, speaking for everyone, and expecting people to be published authors on mine, or Dark Kirby's reviews, I'm gonna forget I ever Strolled into the message board. Thankyou.
If you leave because you can't cope with someone else's work being reviewed, then good riddance frankly. Few people here are published authors, I've got a few poems published in anthologies, but that's it. No one here claims to be the best author since the beginning of time. It's not on. People here, however, are actually good at making your work better. If you only write random crap, then don't expect good reviews here. People like it when you put real effort into your work. If you put real effort and write more than a few thousand words for a story, it shows.
Whereas a crappy little story that has no real flow, no real plot and poor spelling and grammar, it's going to be reviewed more harshly as people can see that it could be good.

I would assume this is me. If you dont like me, fine. But don't attack me. I never insulted anyone. I merely said that if you want to hear only positive comments (as is evidenced by the "read and COMPLIMENT" comment), then you've come to the wrong place. Some of us here take our writing seriously, and we are merely trying to help other writers be more productive and gain readers. if they dont want readers, fine. But if your writing doesnt appeal to a reader, it wont be read. it is the readers JOB to tell you wher you need improvement. If you dont want to hear the truth, dont post stories.
In addition, if you dont like how the place is run, and think everything should be happiness and sunshine all the time and no one should ever state an negative opinion about anyone or anything, Im sure you can finds another board that shares that belief. I'm, sure theres a fundamentalist Christian board somewhere with that rule (Im serious)(. and if you cant find one, make one.
and one last thing: I tend to become agitated very easily. if you want to "take it outside", as the saying goes, do it via IM. I dont want to litter this board with flames. I probably wont respond anyway, but still.
EDIT: a copy/paste of my comment from the topic being discussed, if a mod or an admin is intersted:
"I will say only one thing.
If you want only compliments on your stories, you have come to the wrong place to get them. We are not mean people, but we constructiely criticize everytihng. the only way to get to be a better writter is to hear critique and act on the suggestions. If all you ever hear was "that was great!", you will never improve because you will not know WHAT to improve. Im not saying you're bad at all, Im just saying, everyone can improve, and its the job of the reader to tell the writier what could be worked on."

I also have a complaint. I am NOT stuck up! I was trying to help that person! I was being nice by reviewing his story because usually I don't review any stories other that the ones done by my closest friends, or people I see potential in. It should be taken as a compliment that I want to help him.
Even JK Rowling and CS Lewis (and JR Tolkien, shame on you for not mentioning him. ) had to start somewhere. If no one gave them constructive critism they would have never made Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia.
So in conclusion, just calm down. We're being helpful, and if you can't take that, then go away. By the way, we may be a little harsh, but we're blunt, we don't make it all pretty and peaches. This is prolly' cuz' we don't get many stories on here, and we tend to rip apart every little detail and examine it under a 20,000xx glass. O.o Does that even exist? Anyway, that's a good thing. They learn how to improve the little parts of the story, it makes the big parts look better.
I'll stop rambling now. At least before I get into a full-fledged one.
Thank you.

She's female, Elflord. And while I'm at it, what's a "Conplaint" anyway? Is it anything like a "Complaint"?

Don't have a dictionary on me, but it's a term for a female. Female celebrity, I think.

Uh-oh, guys. Somebody on the Internet is indignant. We'd better head for the hills.
Word of advice. If you can't take criticism, then it may be in your best interest not to release your writing until you're ready to. Most people, when they begin writing, aren't good at all. Almost nobody has a natural talent that lets them release a completed work with no flaws without ever having been critiqued before. If you want to improve, learn to listen to what other people think is wrong with it, even if they are not tactful in telling you.

What's the point of posting things if you don't want it to be reveiw? Writing alone wont make you any better...and if Dark Kirby is to sensitve to take constructive critsism then she should just give up the whole idea of writing.
