"Shadow: Part II", chapter 13Shadow: Part IIBy: Okichan"What do you mean use them?" Dalton flustered, his large nose turning crimson red in misunderstanding as he squinted his green eyes up at Sheik, who rolled his eyes and for the third time explained what they all wanted the silly mage to do. Mayoree kicked him in the bottom and started yelling out the instructions, causing Sheiks eyes to widen. "By Nayru's blood! haven't you heard anything we've been telling you mage, we want you to use the medallions so we can see if anyone, besides the dark world sages can use them you scruffy little pervert!" She took in a calming breath, Link grunted in laughter at Dalton's pale expression as he took the medallions from Sheik's hand with quivering fingers ands fumbled around with them. Mayoree flipped her hair around and cleared her throat, releasing her anger. "Nayru's love May, you didn't have to be that harsh..." Link said, muffling his chuckles with one hand as Dalton tripped over his long black robe and then turned back with his nose in the air. "Are you all sure you want me to handle this, i only came along because you wouldn't give me my medallion back." he revised. Link nodded, smirking still. Dalton looked longingly up to the blue sky, dotted with spring rain clouds over to the east. They had left the town to do the thing that his three new companions had asked him to do, though he swore that he still didn't get it. "What are sages?" he asked, idly curling a finger into his goatee. Mayoree's face burnt up as she clenched her fists. "They are the keepers of the dark medallions, we aren't sure if your the sage of dark fire though, even though you could use the medallion." Link explained to him, sheik folded his arms and glared at the mage, and Link continued after a short pause. "this just clarifies that others, besides the sages can use the powers of the medallions, if they have magical ability of course." Link said as a complement. Dalton smiled. But Mayoree let out a groan and threw her arms into the air. "Good luck finding any magic out of that one." She grumbled, stalking towards Shakti, who was nibbling on a tuff of grass nearby. Dalton made an insulted gasp, and lunged forward. "Excuse me young human girl, but what does a half breed as yourself know of magic, you who's bow resembles a metal stick with dreaded horse heads sticking out of either end!" He yelled after her as Sheik caught his by the wrist and stopped him from running over and kicking the women in the shin, she motioned for him to leave her alone. "Horse headed stick thingy!" He yelled after her. Link grunted in laughter again as Sheik picked him off him feet, tucked him under one arm and walked a couple feet and set him down to face him. "Just try and use the medallions mage, that's all I ask." Sheik said with a prolonged sigh, Dalton nodded and fumbled with the medallions, dropping the Dark Fire medallion back into Sheiks hand and holding the white medallion of Dark Ice, the ice jewel. "I need to concentrate." Dalton advised. Sheik nodded in understanding and stepped back a few feet. Link walked after Mayoree, who was sitting by Shakti, and picking at a blade of newly grown grass in her hand. link sat down beside her. "At least he's useful at solving a few of our problems May." Link mentioned. Mayoree grunted and threw the skeleton of gras blade over her shoulder. "Yes, at least." She agreed, seeming somewhat annoyed about Dalton's
attitude. Mayoree, for the first time in a few months leaned on Links shoulder.
Link was a little startled, but then sighed and watched with her as Dalton began
chanting something he couldn't quite make out. Link figured she had probably
forgotten her harsh nature towards him about Kassidy, which meant she was his
close friend once more, Link was more then a little relieved. By all the ice, bring the powers of the water fairies, i ask ye to soully bind the power into my hand, By the blizzards cold breezes, come forth! Dalton shot his hand into the air, clenching the medallion as Sheik watched from a couple feet in back of him. A cone of whirling ice and snow shot from the medallions center, littering the air into a nipping cold freeze, the ice hit one poor oak sapling, causing it to freeze on impact. Sheik remembered the old witch in Haltemi giving him a translating pamphlet, Sheik had translated it, and knew that the ice would never melt unless melted by the Dark Fire medallion. Sheik was very convinced though. "Well, I think I'm owed an apology!" Dalton shouted across the field to Mayoree, who shouted back that she was sorry, and that he started it. Sheik turned to Dalton and put a hand on his shoulder. "Thank you mage, you've proved that we can use them to our advantage if we manage to find anymore and figure out this whole dilemma." Sheik sighed. Dalton twitched his nose and looked up at Sheik as he thought. "I'm not really clear what you mean by dilemma? what dilemma are we all in?" He asked, seeming confused. Sheik shook his head and glared at the little man. "I doubt you could understand since you didn't even get what we asked you to do with the meddalions my friend." Sheik said in a low voice. Dalton made an insulted gasp and put his right hand over his heart as Sheik walked towards everyone as they mounted there horses to head west. Dalton ran after him, pointing his stubby finger in the air. "I found that to be the first joke you've all they time you have been here
dear sir, and I take offense to it by all means!" He shouted, then fumbled and
tripped over the folds in his wizards robes as they caught under his foot. Link
rolled his eyes and thought, this journey was going to be longer then he
imagined.
The night was warm, the lake water was as still as glass and the trees where muted into a black night as the half moon rode into the sky over the horizon. Link hugged his legs to his chest, breathing the sweet smells of his surroundings and closing his gazing blue eyes. He couldn't sleep agian, but at least tonight was pleasant. The Hylian scratched his right pointy ear and gazed onto the lake out in front of him, listening intently to the bull frogs and out into the thick forest behind his surounding. the moss under him cushioned his sore muscles from the long days trip. The image of the white wolf kept racing through his thoughts, but her presence was becoming more frequent since Sheik had told him what was wrong with him for becoming obbsessed with it's image and memories. Link let out a sigh and closed his eyes to clear out his head, he wanted to know how much longer this jounrey would last. He missed Hyrule, the places they had been visiting latey where so strange and alien to him. He missed the long grass fields and forests, he missed his people. He missed the very place he was now trying agian to protect from harm. Links fingers grazed the object at his side, the familair wooden curves, no inperfections at all, smooth and emotionless features. Link picked up his fierce Deity's mask and looked into it agian, he became calm, his fingers tingled from the magic aura the memento eminated. "Link..." came a whispered voice, soft and like the wind. Link thought his ears where playing tricks on him, until it called again, soothing and softly. "Link..." It said. link looked around, no one was up except himself, everyone was asleep. Link squinted his eyes, he was so tired he was hearing voices. Link tired to put the mask back down. But he suddenly felt his arm stiffen, muscles locked in the position as he gritted his teeth at the suddenly stinging pain in his fingers. Link swallowed his urge to scream as the pulses of pain ran up his arm and into his neck and torso. "Link..." The voice said loudly, muddling into his mind. Link gasped for air
as his neck muscles locked, cutting off his air supply, gagging, Link threw
himself on the ground, trying to draw a panicing breath of air. The pain pulses
hieghtened, waves of enrgy hit him agian and agina, the world began to tilt and
twirl. What was happening? But before he could do anything else, his arm bended
in the direction of his face and the mask blocked all light from his panicing
eyes as he tried to regain control.
The black night was distrubed by a horrible scream, all fell silent. Sheik's eyes opened instantly, he knew that scream. It echoed in his mind for a terrible moment, another agonizing scream, more horrifing then the last. Sheik felt his heart pound up agianst his rib cage. A shudder went up his spine. Mayoree stood up from her nest of leaves, at a nearby tree. She stood up slowly. The scream came yet agian, a torturous noise, louder and even more painfully familair. Mayoree gasped and slapped her hands over her mouth. " Link." She managed to utter. her eyes glistened with oncoming tears of horrible visions. The forest fell silent agian, the black seqouia trees, like looming gaints kept most moonlight from reaching the ground. Sheik stumbled to his feet, listening, but nothing else came. He grabbed Mayoree by her wrist as she opened her mouth to call to him. Sheik put a finger in front of her quivering lower lip and shook his head. His eyes where intense with a serious, and cautious concern. She nodded slightly, trying to swallow the pain in the middle of her chest. Sheik quickly grabbed his long dagger out of his right boot and ran into the gap of trees in front of him, into a clearing he moved like lightning. silently tredding on the tender spring grass he looked over his shoulder and beckoned her fiercely. Mayoree grabbed her bow and quiver and began running, struggling to strap the quiver on and hold her bow at the same time. Sheik pinned himself up against a tree, and melted into the shadows, his form merging with the tree behind him. Mayoree tried to catch her breath as Sheik grabbed her arm and very strongly, to her suprise pushed her next to him. "Don't make a sound, we may be in trouble." Mayoree's questioning eyes widened in frustrationa and confusion. Sheik looked at her, intensely. "Proimise me..." Shet thought he had said that threw gritted teeth. Sheik's eyes searched her face for an answer. "Promise me!" He said louder and more harsh. Mayoree flinched and nodded in agreement. Sheik listened as a new noise echoed out. the sound of a sword being drawn somewhere to the left of there position. an eerie silence swept over them. Sheik tightened his grip on Mayoree's wrist as she gasped, her breathing becoming rapid. "Try to be as quiet as possible..." Came Sheik's calm telepathic message. Mayoree sucked in her fear. her teary eyes searched the bushes to the left of them. A strange voice was muttering something as it came closer. quiet foot steps breaking twigs and stepping on leaves. She couldn't make out the muttering at all. A black figure walked from the bushes, it's form standing out from the night around it, the moonlight that shown through the trees fell over the figures form as it walked away from them. Mayoree gasped as the humanoid be came visible, it stopped mumbling and turned around to look in there direction. it's flaming white eyes searched. Mayoree put a hand over her mouth. it was Link! his hair had turned a blinding white color and his face was pale, with red war paint painted onto his forehead and cheeks. his face was dead and emotionless. Mayoree couldn't hold back her fear. Sheik whispered under his breath. "he's a Demon." the figure came foreward, his tunic had been turned a gray color, and his chest was covered with black plate mail. Link stocked forward. he turned to look into the black-ness. emotionless, blood thirsty stare running over both of them a couple times. His voice was harsh and snake-like. "Sheikah...." he said loudly. smirking and looking around, throwing his sword forward in a rage of anger. he yelled violently and turned to hit a nearby tree. slicing the metal blade right threw the three foot sapling. it crashed to the ground and Link heaved in anger, and yet he came closer. licking his lips and running his quivering fingers over his sword. his face menacing and full of a crazed and unstable look. A fox in a nearby bush jumped and ran for cover. Link swerved towards it and grabbed it by the tail, digging his sword into it's flesh and causing the dying animal to scream until he cut it in two, and let and head drop to the ground, tossing the bloodied body at a nearby tree. "Sheikah!!" He yelled, stumbling back he grabbed his head. they could both heard his labored breaths as he fell to his knees in a fit of anger. Mayoree's knees weakened as he screamed agian, his shoulders heaving with his breaths. Sheik drove his fingers into Mayoree wrist, causing her to yell in pain. Sheik's eyes widened as Link turned his frenzied gaze right in her direction. he was up in seconds, a battle cry echoed out as he ran forward, his sword over his head. Mayoree screamed in terror as Sheik painfully pulled her out of the warriors way. The blade drove into the old wood right where Mayoree had been standing. Link let out another scream as he tried to release his blade. "Run!" Sheik shouted, taking off into the trees. Mayoree struggled to regain her balance as Link relased his sword, his burning white eyes shined with a hunger for death as she looked into them. Mayoree ran, her bare feet carrying her as fast as she feared to go, pushing her ability to the limit as she heard the shouts and foot steps behind her. the whoosh of a blade zipped past the back of her head. And then she tripped, falling onto her twisted ankle she rolled to the side as a battle cry echoed and the sword struck the ground, scattering dirt and pine needles in every direction. Mayoree got her bow up just in time as the sword came behind Links head agian and cut down at her, she blocked the blow barely. the two weapons quivered as the other tried to out weigh there opponent. sparks of friction lit up the air as Link chopped down on the bow agian and agian, not dwindling in strength at all. A twirling figure caught her scared gaze, as Link beat down her strength agian and agian, she buckled with the next blow and the blade dug into her right shoulder, striking flesh she screamed and grabbed her wound, rolling helplessly to the side as Link smirked and struck at her agian, hitting her sharply in the right arm. The figure zipped through the night air, and with a loud thump Sheik plummeted his feet into Links back, forcing him to the ground as Sheik wrestled as he trashed and snarled, his sword flying from his fingers a few feet away. Sheik locked his arms around Links neck and forced his head up as he pinned down his hands. Sheik looked over at Mayoree, clenching her bleeding shoulder and limp arm, and helplessly looking at them as Sheik tried to pin Link down into the dirt. "RUN!" Sheik yelled. Mayoree stepped back, grabbing her bow and taking out an arrow, fitting it to the string. Sheik was suddenly flung off as Link managed to stand up, jabbing his elbow into Sheiks ribs and sending him crashing and tumbling back into the truck of a tree, he fell forward on the ground, unconcious. Link's eyes locked with Mayoree's as he ran his thumb over his lips, wiping off the blood as he spit it on the ground, walking forward towards her and Mayoree took a step back. He smiled, his glistening teeth catching the light. Link picked up his sword from the ground and twirled it about. Mayoree fell painfully back on her twisted ankle, terrified as the man stepped slowly towards her. "Link!!" She yelled. "Link, what are you doing!" there was no change, he even snickered and stretched his free hand, grasping the leather hilt and raising the sword up. Mayoree's muscles ached with the ringing blows she had taken from his last assault, she didn't have enough power to fend him off. she watched in terror as he smirked and tightened his grip even more. ' zing!' Link tossed his head back in agony, and grabbed his left arm, dropping the weapon and stumbling back. Mayoree caught the glimpse of an arrow shaft sticking out of his lower arm. Mayoree pushed up with her good foot and managed to stand as Link's fingers curled with pain, his lower arm quivering as the red stuff dribbled down his arm and dripped off his fingers. He grabbed the shaft and was about to yank it free when and whistling sound sparted threw the air, hitting his squarely in the lower back. Link held his breath for a long second, moanign with pain and stumbling, his eyes widened with shock, he looked vaguely at Mayoree until falling to the ground, blood pooling under him. An eerie silence was about her, no sound, not even a cricket dared disturb the silence, she could only hear her heart and her breathing. The drakness around her lifted as dozens of figures came out of the bush, silently, with an eerie felling they walked slowly into the moonlight. A cat like face, tall and strong builds, there beautiful, wild eyes locked on to her. They stopped, surrounding her, the wood fell silent once more. "Lionan." She said clamly. each pair of golden slitted eyes where on her, Mayoree struggled not to faint as the full pain of her wound whirled back into her, causing her to slowly fall to the ground and close her eyes. a taller one stepped forward and loomed over her, his ragged over shirt, parted down the middle showing his corded, bulging muscles. he ran a claw threw his short white hair and scratched his chin. his cat-like mouth and nose twitched. he bent down and put his finger on the human girls wound, looking at the dark red blood as he brought a finger back to his face. his ears twitched and he nodded and looked to his counterparts, who stepped forward to pick up the two others. the leader rose back up, his muscles rippling and his white stripes over his black hide standing out as he and his companions merged back into the forest with the strangers in tow. The troop dissapeared without a sound into the woods., leaving the dark forest into the night. |
