Chapter Ten: Please Kill Me

Link was terrified. Ganondorf was furious.

When Ganondorf arrived back from some place he had went to, he found it very strange that it was quiet. Link was sitting on the couch, staring at the blank screen, very pale. Ganondorf sensed something was amiss.

"Somethin' wrong, kid?"

Link became alert, and assured, "No, no I'm fine... I just... Need some sleep, I guess."

"Oh please," Ganondorf walked into the room further. This was Antina's apartment, but she was gone most of the time. Link was afraid of her, but there wasn't a man out there who wasn't. She demanded attention and obedience. He had once or twice slept outside the door when she was fed up with sharing everything she had. He would try to object, but after looking at her face, he would nod and decide that the door mat isn't such a bad place to sleep. "It's not the sleep. Even I know that." Ganondorf set down a few things onto the floor.

"Blackhawk... Tells awfully convincing stories... But you know," Link half-heartedly tried to smile, "You can tell that he made it up. Yeah..." Link's smile faded.

"What'd he tell you?" Ganondorf demanded.

"I promised I wouldn't--"

"You will!"

Link stuttered, "C-corvus..."

"Dang it, Blackhawk, that's why I didn't want you to tell him! Now he's going to breathe down my neck to know more!"

"How was I supposed to know he'd do that? He shoulda guessed it was all crap to begin with!"

"You don't just walk up to a person and tell them their entire stinkin' life was wasted!"

"Uh..." Link was unsure what to say, so he didn't say anything. Blackhawk and Ganondorf were fighting over several things, and it eventually came to this. Fights between them were not uncommon, but Link disliked being talked about. But he did not want to interrupt. So Link quieted, after only breathing a syllable. He bit his lip.

"You might as well let him... If I hadn't told him, you woulda avoided tellin' him as long as possible, probably never."

"Shut up."

"Who's the Corvus?" Link breathed. Ganondorf paused, then sighed.

"There, it's gonna start now... The Corvus is a cult, or a clan as they call themselves, they use magick through the order of their god, who no one knows anything about. In any case, it's a very sneaky group, they've started major scams across Hyrule... They've even started an entire religion, all carefully crafted so there is no flaw in any legend. Their origin and their desires are unknown."

"Which religion is this?" Link asked hastily, something not feeling right. Ganondorf hesitated and looked out the window at the street lights, the light reflecting blue off the wet sidewalk.

"...That's the trouble. You see, the Corvus' religion is Forsian." Forsian? Hadn't Blackhawk mentioned that? "The religion of Force. But the Corvus knew they weren't going to get members with a name like that. So they made the Triforce and changed the name to Triforsian. They made some legend behind it and people accepted it..." Link's eyes widened.

"But... Din and Farore and Nay--"

"Those are made up. Just a ploy so Hylians consider anyone who can't control the Triforce as an evil person. You must understand that's not the logic at all. No one can control it completely. The Triforce is a curse itself. It only takes several years to destroy a person... Depending on their conditions. You're reaching the point... Where you can't..." Ganondorf trailed off into mumbles. Link at first thought it was because of what he was about to say, but when he looked out the window, he saw why Ganondorf looked so surprised.

"Silbera!" Link exclaimed. Silbera was clambering up onto the windowsill, protesting with loud yowls. Scratching against the wet wood, she picked herself up onto windowsill, then quickly began washing herself. She was soaked with water and dirt. Link rushed over and began picking her up, whispering under his breath, "How the heck did you find me?"

"Uh, is that your cat?" Blackhawk had begun to edge out of the room because of the conversation that was going on, but he stopped when he had seen the creature.

"...Yes, I guess so." Link said awkwardly. Silbera purred loudly, rubbing against his arm.

Ganondorf stared at the cat with a mixed expression of fear, surprise, and looking back into a history of something. Ganondorf was remembering what he thought of cats, but his mind blurred into the thought that he was right. Cats were real. No one had believed him when he said that a leopard had saved his life out in the desert, they had he hallucinated from the heat. He felt okay... But saying something like that was like saying you were chased by an alien with a laser gun, and when you were trapped in an alley, a dinosaur jumped out and ate the alien.

Everyone thought Ganondorf was mad when he said the leopard had attacked the man, who was about to kill him. The man had run through the Gerudo fortress, stealing things, then bolted into the desert. Ganondorf, only the age of ten but appearing to be nearly thirty, went after him. They were both on horses, and the man was perfectly aware of Ganondorf the whole time. He tried to lose him, and for a while he succeeded. The thief stopped at an oasis for a drink, not knowing that a beast crouched back in the thick grass and brush. Ganondorf tried to steal back the items before the man's attention to them returned, but the man caught him, and had him pinned to the ground on his back, a gun pointing in his face. Ganondorf had never seen a gun before, and was confused. The man muttered, "Ah, you're one of those idiots. Listen here, you move a muscle, and I blast a hole through your head, got it...?" A loud yowl. The man's horse neighed, throwing itself against, something clinging onto it. A bundle of muscle, fur and claws dug into its shoulder. The white stallion bucked furiously in panic, attempting to throw the creature off. The man tried to shoot it, but in the chaos, he shot his own horse instead. The leopard jumped off, snarling. This was Ganondorf's chance. He grabbed the man's sack and ran. He got onto his horse and once they went running, Ganondorf thought he was safe. But the man turned and shot...

"...Her name's Silbera."

"That's a weird name for a cat... Why'd you go naming her that?"

"I didn't na-- I read it somewhere." Link did not want to start saying that Silbera named herself. That would be a bit strange. Blackhawk shrugged.

"Well then, you do whatever... I gotta go see what's up with my bank account... Don't ask me why..." Blackhawk grunted, then ducked out the door. Ganondorf stared at Silbera, Link uncomfortabley sat down with her, and Silbera meowed.
