"Legends of the Triforce", chapter 13The Legends of the Triforce: The Next ChapterBy: WCS IIChapter Thirteen This little guy can sure spit those things! Was what Terry thought as he edged his way closer to the little scrub, each projectile hitting his shield just a little harder than the last. Terry could hear the Deku Scrub laughing as he spit the things out, and ducking as fast as it could. Terry's persistence in progressing forward finally paid off as he heard a squeak, and rustling. Chancing a look over his shield Terry, grinned as he saw the little guy dancing around much like the other one before. Seeing his chance, Terry ran the short distance to the center of the room to wait out the return of the Deku Scrub. Once it turned to see Terry standing over its hiding place it once again tried to hit him with what it was spitting at him before. Terry was thankful that he still had his shield out as he positioned it to deflect the newest projectile. Shortly after hearing, rather than feeling the thing bounce of his shield he heard another squeak. "Okay, okay, I surrender. So sorry master, I will not do it again." The diminutive scrub squeaked from its position on the floor. Once more Terry cautiously looked from behind his shield down at the thing lying at his feet. with a grin? "NOT!" screeched the thing as it lunged back for another attack. Terry quickly raised his shield as another projectile was deflected, but this time, Terry reached into his pocket and pulled out a nut. Using the position of his arm and shield Terry covered his eyes as he threw the nut down. With a loud snap and a sharp squeal, Terry lowered his arm to see a dazed Deku Scrub. Not taking any chances Terry pulled his sword and positioned his blade right in front of the scrub. When the scrub could see again, it pointedly stared at the edge of the sharp object in front of it. "Right. Okay. Truce, I won't do that again, if you could just put that away." The Deku Scrub said in a shockingly deep voice as it hesitantly looked at the sword. Seeing the confused look on Terry's face, the scrub spoke again in its deep voice, "What!? You never heard of a grown Deku Scrub? Now please, put that sword away." All Terry could do was look on at the scrub as he slightly lowered his sword. "Okay, so you still don't trust me. Alright I'll give you a secret if you spare me. You'll never defeat our brothers up ahead unless you punish them in the proper order. 2.3.1. 23 is number 1 that always helps me remember it." A still fearful Deku Scrub mentioned to Terry as it eyed the sword, as it started to back away. Terry finally found his voice, "Wait! I'd like to ask you some more questions." "Well I guess as long as you got that drawn I've got no choice." The scrub pointedly suggested. Taking the hint Terry sheathed his sword and gestured with a look that asked if that were better. "Alright then, what is it you wish to ask?" "Several things actually, but I should probably start with this Gohma thing." "Oh, the Queen, well wha'da ya want to know?" "For starters, what is. she?" "She is the Queen, what else!?" The Deku Scrub stated like it should have been common knowledge "So you couldn't tell me where she is from, what species she is, or anything like that?" "Oh, that, well, I don't know "what" she is, but I do know that she has been here for as long as I can remember. She was born here." "Okay. Well, I guess I'll find out the rest when I meet her." Terry was cut off, "WHOA! You plan on going to face off with the Queen? Dang kid, you got guts. I wouldn't want to be in your boots though. Just about everyone that every faced off with the queen has never been heard from again." "About... everyone?" Terry stressed the question. "Yeah, a long time ago, some upstart kid came in and took down the mother, ever since, anyone else that dealt with this queen got their burial right in this here tree." "Huh. So, my prospects don't look to good, do they?" "Not so well." The Deku Scrubs words gave Terry an uneasy feeling. With this information Terry stood for a moment in thought. "Is that all?" queried the scrub. "If the others didn't make it, then there was something that they were missing, but what?" "Are you asking me?" "Huh? Oh, uh, sorry thinking out loud. Did the others that came in here for the same thing know what things were?" "What? You mean did they ask about what was around them? No, not really. Why?" The scrub was intrigued by Terry's question, but Terry didn't answer right away. "Then, I should be asking about those things." Terry half whispered to himself. "So. I guess I move on to my other questions." With that Terry pulled out the things he had been collecting. "Can you tell me what all you know about these things and anything else that you know about this tree and what is in it?" The Deku Scrub noticeably looked at Terry in a stunned gaze, "That's a tall order, but I'll try. Okay, let's see what we got. First up, this is you basic Fairy slingshot, usually only kids can use it, but, if you got in here, you must of learned how to over come that little problem. Next up, you got the munitions for the sling, Deku seeds, hard little suckers that can sure pack a punch. After that, what you have here is Deku nuts. These little guys, aside from being great to eat, when used like we scrubs do, they can hurt a person, if thrown on the ground, be sure to cover your eyes, or you'll be blinded just like the other guy. But of course you already know that, catching me and all. I see you kept the sticks, so I'll assume you already know about them." The scrub paused as if in thought. "As for the things in here, aside from us scrubs, you got your basic Deku Babas, and the other kinds that go looking for a snack." Terry grimaced upon that mentioning. "And I see you know what I'm talking about. Okay, you also got Skulltulas, both those giant tick like suckers on the walls and their mommies that are nothing short of a giant nightmare. And as I understand it, somewhere in here, there are some eggs for the Queen's Gohma offspring" "There is a male Gohma in here?" Terry cut in, a little apprehension in his voice." "Male? Oh. Naw, the Queen puts those little guys out like the tree grows those nuts." With that Terry's eyes widened as big as they could. "But so long as you take care of the egg, they won't bother ya." Terry couldn't help but gulp. It was then that he remembered something else. "I've also noticed some kind of heart things; feel like they're some sort of encased gelatin. Do you know what they are?" "Gelatin, what's that?" "Gelatin, that's something that is still like a liquid, but is more solid than a liquid. Something like crushed ice, that has melted a little?" "Oh, that stuff, you say you found something like that in the shape of a heart?" "Yeah." "Huh. I didn't think any hearts were still left." "Meaning?" Terry quizzed. "Oh, a long time ago, there used to be a whole bunch of those things. If you ever got hurt, just find a few of those, and you were all better, be it a cut, bruise, anything. They were made to heal. Some people have even said they've healed broken bones. And others swear that if you find a frozen one, you can gain the ability to take more abuse, though I wouldn't want that." The scrub explained. But Terry still looked skeptical. "They are magic?" "Well, some say so, others think that someone learned how to produce life force in some physical form, encased it, then put them just about everywhere. Others still, think that Farore herself gives them to those that need them." The Deku Scrub finished his explanation as Terry just looked on with confusion all over his face. "Who?" |
