The Legends of the Triforce: The Next Chapter

By: WCS II

Chapter Ten

Terry made his way back to the chest in the main chamber, hearing the spider creatures above him; he cautiously eyed them as he neared the chest.  Apparently they had very poor eyesight, and didn't see him.  Still weary of them, he looked to either side of the chest, and sure enough he found a latch, and undid its clasp before attempting to open it.  Inside was some old parchment scrolls.  On the scrolls were crude drawings of the inner chamber, the rooms he was just in on what seemed to be the second floor map, and showed another room to the top, as well as some below, no doubt bellow the web.

His mind was wondering as he absent mindedly scanned the room.  He noticed a ledge farther out than the rest of the rim.  Again he made his was across the rim to his destination.  Looking down he could see that it more or less put him directly over the webbing.

"Well he said if enough weight from a high enough place.  This certainly looks high enough.   I wonder if it will work here?"  Terry pondered aloud as he looked over the edge.  And with a deep breath, he jumped from the ledge.

It was a short fall but his heart was pumping furiously as he landed on the webbing, it bent a little, then came back up and continued to bounce up and down for a few seconds.

"I guess it wasn't high enough." Terry stated more so to himself, aloud, than for it just to be said.  He was about to step off the webbing when he remember the blue things on vines.  So he took out his sword and readied himself.  Sure enough one attacked him as soon as he was on the ledge of the web, but having fought some before, he made quicker work of it this time.

Again he climbed the nearby vines to the next level, and silently thought to himself.  By the time this is over my arms are going to ache for a week, but at least I'll grow some muscles, he.he.he.  He returned to the chest and looked up, he knew that the only way to break through that web would be to jump from the higher ledges, but the only way up were the vines hanging there, with those spiders on them.  That's when the idea struck him, he could use that slingshot that he acquired, and perhaps knock them off one by one and deal with them with his sword.  He readied a seedling and took aim, he didn't want to waste them, though abundant in the structure, he didn't feel like doing weed control.

Soon as he was sure that he had one in his sights he released the band, T'wang again was the sound of the seed flying from its seat of rest.  Luckily the seed found its mark, and the spider came tumbling down.  Shortly after hitting the ground, it started to evaporate in a purple smoke.  Then it disappeared altogether.

"Well that was easy." Terry spoke, surprised that such an ugly, and admittedly scary thing was so easily toppled, he would have to remember to not be so easily spooked by things like that.  He readied another seed in the slingshot and took aim for the next one, and released, it missed, so he saddled another one, took aim, and missed again.  He took a deep breath, switched sides of the chest, and took aim at it again, with the telltale sound of the sling, the seed found its mark this time, and like the one before, it fell to the ground and disappeared in purple smoke.  Terry was about to go up the vines when he heard something coming form above him.

Looking up and squinting to see through the shade he saw that there was another spider awaiting him higher up on the vines.  So again he took out the sling and took aim, taking his time he looked to make sure that it would hit, and let fly the seed, a second later the spider landed with a hard thud, and bounced a little before coming to rest, and disappearing itself.  Terry checked to make sure that it was clear this time, and so it seemed.  With that taken care of he started the climb up the vines.  He finally passed the next floor's floor board, but saw that he would have to maneuver to a position over them to get off the vines.

Once done with this, he sat down for a second against the wall, to catch his breath.  For the moment he looked around the top floor, there were three ledges to drop from, but which one, if he chose the wrong one he might hit the floor instead, and that would kill him, and if he did survive he would have to climb all the way back up here to do it again.  That wasn't something that he was looking forward to.  Then he noticed a door to the far left of the floor.  And thought that since he was up here he might as well see what was in there.

With that he pushed himself up off the floor and started to walk toward the door, it was then he heard a scratching sound, and looked up to dodge the source just in time.  Just a few feet away was something that made the other wall creatures look like the ideal pet.  It was, a really, really big spider.  He pulled his sword and shield to defend himself, and took a step closer, the thing dropped lower, and bobbed up and down for a second.  Then it was still, again he approached it, just then it started to seem like it was trembling, and shaking almost violently.  With this it turned exposing its belly toward Terry.

He was about to go in and strike at the newly exposed side, when it turned on him suddenly.  He barely was able to block the hit with his shield; however, he was still knocked off his feet.  There he noticed that the thing started to go above the webs.  It was then that he noticed two others hanging on the other sides.  Not wanting to go through that again he made sure to go around the huge thing, though he would have to deal with it when he came back later.

But for now all he wanted to do was get through the door.  Again he found a panel and had to stomp on it to open the door, and thus stepped through.  Once inside the door slammed shut, and more iron bars fell into place, he looked back to see this, and quickly removed his shield and ducked behind it.  He waited, but nothing came, he looked up and truly noticed the darken room for the first time.  It was more or less a giant pit with another ledge on the far side of the room, and a little grove to the left.

And just to the edge of his ledge was an unlit torch while on the other side was a burning one, going strong and unwavering.  It almost seemed as if something magical was feeding it, but magic didn't exist, right?  And just in front of it was a raised mound of earth, but it was squared off.  Cautiously Terry walked to the edge to get a better view of the "pit".  It seemed to hold three areas of green grass, while the rest was mostly dead wood.

Just then something caught his eye, looking down he saw one of those blue things on the vines wrinkling around in a sleeping position.  So he drew back from the ledge and stared across the room, there he noticed another large chest, and wondered what was in it.  Terry continued to scan the other side and could not discern any of those vines or ladders to climb.  Trying to get the light behind his eyes, Terry went to stand in front of the lit torch, upon the dirt mound.  As soon as he placed his full weight on it he heard something rumble, then he felt the earth move underneath him, and he quickly sank, rather than fell, to floor level.

Looking down he saw that he had apparently activated a switch.  Looking back up at the sound of more rumbling he saw the three patches of green grass rise up.  They formed a pathway to the grove, and to the other side.  But the switch seemed to hold him there till the platforms were completely raised.  With that he heard a ticking sound, and guessed that meant that the platforms would sink when it stopped, so Terry wasted no time jumping to the first platform.

He thought that he could come back and go to the grove later, right now he wanted to get to the other side.  He jumped from the first to a second platform, he could hear the ticking quickening, and pumped his legs to cross the second platform.  He jumped as a loud click sounded and the platforms started to sink back to the floor.  It was just enough distance that he was able to land just on edge of the other side.  He heard some weird sound coming from his right and turned to see two blue heads pop up on vines, only thing was, they didn't bend to attack they just stood there.

He walked near them and they started to rotate on their base, and put him on guard, but seeing that they couldn't go any further than that Terry took a slice at their base and down they flopped, leaving behind two more Deku Sticks.  Gathering them with the rest of his sticks, Terry moved on to the chest.  It looked like the other two with latches so, he checked, and again there was one.  Taking care of that he lifted the lid and found what looked to be a giant compass, with a north and south needle on it.  He took out his and compared them, he noticed that the new compass however didn't point north or south, the red pointed to the door, and the yellow was separate and pointing at him.

No matter what step he took or turned, they both did so.  He was about to put it away when he brushed it against the scrolls, and portions went blue for the moment they contacted.  Again he brought the compass up to examine it, and placed it against the map, and sure enough they lit blue in the rooms that he had been in.  He was running the compass along the map where the red needle was now pointing to the door where he entered on the map, and the yellow in the direction he was facing in the room.  When Terry noticed something through the lens of the compass, he ran it back over the area, and found a little box there, he removed the compass to examine the map, it didn't have it there.  Again he tried the compass and it again showed the box.  He tried the representation of a grove in the room he was in, and sure enough a box was in the corner.
