The Legend of Zelda: Navi’s Depature
The Door of Time opened and Link emerged with Navi at his side. His footsteps echoed through the large hallway that was the Temple of Time. As he exited the Master Sword’s shrine the large, heavy stonewall closed, never to be opened again.
Navi swooped around in front of Link and began to fly around his face. “We did it! It’s over!” Link smiled and took Navi in his hand as he ran off out of the temple. He came out to the small courtyard and leaped down the steps into the market. Link then made his way down the path towards the Castle. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to get in there just by walking through, so he snuck around the guards and went through the back like he did the first time.
Eventually he came to the garden where Zelda was. There she was, looking through the window at Ganondorf as it had been through Link’s long adventure. The time had come that Link would tell Zelda her prophecy was correct, he moved slowly towards her as she peered through the window. He walked across the clean-cut grass, through the perfect red roses until he reached the stone steps that Zelda stood upon.
“Uh-hmm?” Zelda gasped.
“We have some things to tell you, Princess Zelda…” Navi said. Link smiled at her and nodded. Navi and Link explained all that had happened in the future to stop Ganondorf, and he had been sealed in the Dark World through time and Hyrule was saved. Link’s efforts were not gone un-noticed and he was known across the land as the Hero of Time. Link became extremely famous, and people would recognise him wherever he went across Hyrule. Link disliked this, and it is how his little adventure begins.
Chapter One: Time to set off
Link’s original plan was to catch up with his lost childhood, but as a child he couldn’t stand the fame that he had gained across the land. He decided to just go to the Kokiri Forest and announce that he was leaving to the Deku Tree. He wandered across the all-familiar Hyrule field towards his homeland that his mother left him at.
Link often wandered about his mother and what happened to her. He thought even more about who his father was, as he was never mentioned in anything. He thought that maybe he was a soldier in the great civil war, and died for his King. Link knew that he wouldn’t find out the information he wanted, so tried hard not to think about it most of the time.
Link approached the entrance of the forest and moved in through the tunnel. As he walked across the bridge, he remembered the exact moment that Saria gave Link her Fairy Ocarina and when he thought he wouldn’t see her again. He was happy that he would finally see her again as he proceeded to the Kokiri Forest to talk to the Deku Tree.
“Hello there, Link”, said the Deku Tree, “I have heard about what thou hast done. We all have. Thou art The Hero of Time. I knew that there was something about thee the day your mother left thou here with me.” Link smiled. He then looked at the Deku Tree as if to say, “Are you alright?” but before he got to say anything the gigantic tree said,
“I am OK, Link. Yes, there was a time where I knew that the evil, dark man had cast an evil spell on me, but ever since he was banished I have got better. Do not worry thy little head”. Link nodded.
Link explained to the Deku Tree that he didn’t wish to stay within Hyrule for much longer. The Deku Tree was confused,
“Why does thou wish to leave this realm?” he wondered. Link looked back up at him,
“I do not like all the attention and fame, I want to settle down somewhere but I must find this place first. Somewhere where they will not know me. I am going to get Epona from the Lon Lon Ranch, and set out as soon as I can. Please, could you tell Saria?” Link began to look upset, a tear crept from his eye.
The Deku Tree smiled as best he could. “I will tell her, I will tell them all. Thou art a heroic child, Link. We are all grateful for what thou hast done. I understand why thou wishes to leave, and I wish thee the best of luck”. Link smirked and ran off not turning his head to see the Deku Tree again.
Hiding up on a ledge near the Deku Tree, Skull Kid the little imp of the Lost Woods listened over on Link’s conversation. He thought that he could follow Link to this new land to escape the woods. No one really liked Skull Kid, he was known as a troublemaker and a loner. But all he wanted was a friend, something he just couldn’t get in Hyrule. He jumped up, and ran across the top of the hill towards the Lost Woods to make a plan.
Meanwhile Link exited The Deku Tree’s shrine to sort some things out at his house. Mido jumped out from the side in Link’s way. “I heard everything you two said!” he shouted.
“So?” Link groaned.
“How can you not tell Saria? She’s your best friend; I thought you’d be more of one to her. I’m sorry Link but I’m going to have to tell her right now. You can’t leave without saying good-bye…” Mido looked very upset. For the first time Link saw some emotion in Mido, and actually wondered why he felt this way. All this time he knew he was jealous, but maybe he just wanted what was best for Saria. Link tried to walk away but Mido grabbed his arm. “Come with me!” he shouted.
Link struggled as Mido pulled him towards Saria who was waiting by Link’s house. “Saria! Saria!” he shouted. He threw Link towards Saria. She was bemused, and hadn’t a clue what was going on. She caught Link,
“What is going on here?” she asked, looking strangely at Mido. Mido replied,
“Link here has something to tell you! Don’t you, Link?” he glared at him. Link looked up into Saria’s eyes. She looked straight back, and looked very confused. But then she realised,
“You’re leaving, aren’t you?” She said gripping Link’s hand, starting to hug him. Link put his head into her shoulder and sobbed.
“I’m sorry, Saria. I didn’t want to say, I didn’t want to upset you”. Saria burst out,
“How could you think that wouldn’t upset me?! Just leaving without saying anything? I’d be worried sick for the rest of my life! And that would be a long time! Why in Din’s name would you want to leave?” she shrieked. Link pushed away, “I don’t want the fame! I want start anew, in a land where no one will know me. I want to leave this place, I’m sorry Saria.” He ran up to his ladder and climbed up to his room.
Link clambered up and went through his door to collect his money and some water for his journey. He got some extra clothes and boots and the rest of his weapons in case of danger. He was in a rush, and turned around suddenly to see Saria there, calm, collective, and a tear in her eye. “I don’t want you to go, Link,” she stared at him not blinking. Link tried to look away, but he couldn’t. He wanted to stay, or her to come with him but he knew that could never happen because she was the Sage.
Link finally got Saria to understand that they couldn’t be with each other, she now knew that she had to stay to protect the Sacred Realm from evil as the Forest Sage and that Link wanted to leave. They said their goodbyes as Link headed towards Hyrule Castle to speak to Zelda. As he ventured out to the field the moon began to rise as the sunset, and Link could hear the sound of the wolves’ cries as it began to get darker and darker. It began to get cold; Link put on a pullover and began to run to get a bit warmer. He knew at least there wouldn’t be any monsters around here after Ganon had been sealed away.
Link passed the Lon Lon Ranch; memories suddenly came rushing to him, remembering when he met Malon for the first time. He was glad that he would have memories, even if they were memories that were of events that never actually happened. No one else would be able to share these memories with him, which was also one of the reasons he wanted to leave. He was looking forward to seeing Navi again who could share his memories, she went with him all the way and he liked her very much. There was an inseparable bond between them and she was looking forward to travelling with him once again.
As Link reached Hyrule town he remembered that it was actually closed at night and began shouting up at the guard post. “Hello! Could you let me in, please?” A soldier peered over the edge. “Yes, hello. Let me in please?” The soldier looked over and called for another,
“Look down there! It’s the Hero!” the soldier cried. The other soldier moved forward, looking over the edge. He started waving his hands about,
”Sure Mr Hero! I’ll let you right in!” The drawbridge began to open and Link walked in annoyed with all the attention.
Link ran through the deserted Market place and towards the Castle pass. He went through the front gate after some more praise from soldiers and rushed up the garden to the Castle’s drawbridge. “Here is the Hero”, they cried. Link put his eyes under his hat, and blindly went into the castle. Zelda ran up to him after hearing he was there, along with Navi closely flying behind.
“Link!” they both exclaimed. Zelda hugged Link as Navi hovered above.
“Hello you two” he said, smiling. “I have something to tell you, Zelda. Can we go somewhere private?” he looked at her, eyeing in the direction of the courtyard where they first met. She nodded and they all went outside to the garden.
Zelda went up to the window. Link looked at her and asked, “Do you remember the day we met?” Zelda looked at him in the eye.
“Of course I do, it was rather strange but I knew that you were going to come through my prophecy. But to come and say that you’d travelled through time and defeated Ganondorf? That was a surprise,” she giggled. Link took her hand and bowed his head.
“I have something to tell you, Zelda.” Zelda knew that it couldn’t be good news. Navi went up to Zelda, and Zelda said,
“You’re leaving now, aren’t you?” she said, looking up at Navi with a fake smile. “I knew this day would come, but not so soon.” Link looked down at the floor,
“I’m sorry, but I can’t stand the fame. I would rather be a legend. I’ve heard of passages somewhere in the Lost Woods that lead to an unknown land. If you don’t mind, I require a horse. I would like Epona from the Lon Lon Ranch if I could. I befriended her in the future, and I would feel happy to have her if I could.”
“Sure thing”, Zelda replied, “I’ll get her here right away and you can set off whenever you like,” Zelda called for Epona to be brought here for “The Hero” and they all left for the entrance of Hyrule Castle.
As Epona arrived to the castle entrance, Link and Zelda began to say their goodbyes. “I want you to have this, “ Zelda said, reaching out for Link’s hand and getting out a blue oval shaped instrument. “This is the Ocarina of Time which I’m sure you’re already familiar with, eh?” She smiled and closed Link’s hand. “I don’t know why, but I have a feeling that we shall meet again, and I want you to have this as a memory of me. Take care, Link and Navi. Good luck on your travels.”
Link moved slowly away from Zelda and the guard waving good-bye towards Epona and Malon with Navi in toe. “This is my horse Epona, she is very loyal and I hope you take care of her like I would, “ Malon looked up at Link and said, “have we met before?” she looked at Link turning her head side to side, thinking hard. Link grinned,
“No, I don’t believe we have – do not worry, I shall take care of this horse. I love her dearly”. Malon was now even more confused, but decided not to question. Finally Link mounted Epona, and they travelled off towards Kokiri Forest in search of new land.
Chapter Two: Skull Kid’s Adventure
Skull Kid rushed into the Lost Woods after hearing that Link would be returning there to find a way through. Skull Kid knew that this was his break to escape. He was getting very excited and just couldn’t wait for somewhere he could make some friends. The young imp climbed up a tree just outside an exit which led to a part of the Lost Woods he hadn’t been before; he was sure that Link would come this way and waited patiently for him to arrive.
Skull Kid eventually fell asleep in the tree, but was awoken by the sound of hooves. “He’s here!” he thought, he jumped up onto his feet and hid behind one of the branches.
“OK, Navi”, Link said, “I think this must be the place. I haven’t been here before – I don’t think anyone has, if they have then I guess this is why you could call this the Lost Woods… they’d probably never come back”, Link drifted off into a silent talk to himself. Navi flew round to this face and said,
“ Come on, Link. Let’s move on and hope for the best, OK?” Navi bobbed up and down trying to persuade Link to move ahead. Link nodded and took a deep breath, wondering into the darkness of what was really the Lost Woods.
Skull Kid clambered out of the tree and looked around into the darkness. It was so dark that he couldn’t see anything but decided to run through after Link so he didn’t lose him. As he walked through he began to go blank, he looked behind him and couldn’t see any exit. He panicked, and just ran in any odd direction until he heard Epona’s hooves again. “Aha, phew – I thought I’d lost you Mr. Link”.
Navi could sense something behind her and kept trying to look behind her, but there was nothing there, just the darkness of a never-ending black hole. “Navi, look at this,” Link said putting his hand onto a wall he couldn’t see. “There’s something here, do you think there could be an entrance around here?” Link rubbed his palm over the dusty wall. He let his eyes wonder around, looking for a sign of a light or a door. Navi’s glow added some kind of light to help, but the darkness seemed to overwhelm her.
Skull Kid really wanted to get through, as Navi wondered past a certain part of the wall he noticed a crack. From this he decided to take a risk and run towards it. It became dark, and in desperation he grabbed Navi and shoved her in front of the crack, forcing this crevice open and rushing through still holding onto her. “Help me, Link!” she cried. Link began to get consumed by the darkness with the lack of Navi’s light and lost sight of her and Skull Kid.
Skull Kid ran off sniggering, “Finally, I can get out of this place and have a new life!” he cried.
“Let me go!” Navi screamed, she struggled as much she could to get out of his grip but it was of no use. Skull Kid kept running and the darkness began to fade into some light. He ran as fast he could to escape Link, which he had done quite well already. He turned his head to see if Link was there, to his relief he wasn’t but as he turned back around he smashed straight into a tree knocking him out and dropping Navi at the same time. Navi flew up high and looked around for Link. “Link!?” she cried. Her face fell and her eyes felt heavy as she began to cry. “Link… “ She sobbed. She drifted off in search of Link as the light became darkness and the moon rose over the trees as the temperature dropped.
Later that night, Skull Kid eventually woke up and stumbled over trying to stand up again. He rose to his feet and leant against the tree. He clenched his fist and punched the tree. “Argh! I lost her, how can I found my way through the darkness now?” he growled to himself. As the Sun began to rise the imp realised it wasn’t dark anymore. He grinned and walked off to the east where the sun was rising.
As the sun rises to the east
Get up and move your feet
For lost travellers will find their way
And live to tell another day
Skull Kid remembered that rhyme and hummed it to himself over and over. He began to skip happily into the woods in the hope of finding his way through. He began to think that he wouldn’t see Link on his journey, which would make things a whole lot easier for him. Skull Kid wondered where Navi had got to, and if she was OK. He tried not to think about it and carried on travelling along.
Link charged out of the darkness with much anger and anxiety, his eyes began to glow red, as the sun rose and all he could think of was Navi. He searched around as his breathing became louder and harder. He cut himself on a branch as he rushed by the trees but he did not care, all he wanted to do was find Navi. He went on and on with Epona until she could run no more. “Woah, woah”, Link said calmly. Epona halted and snorted. He dismounted and broke down onto the floor with his head in his hands. “What have I done? Why has this happened”, he repeated to himself as he looked around eagerly. After searching around for so long he thought there was no hope, until in the midst of the forest he saw a small, dim light. He got himself up and walked up towards it slowly.
Meanwhile, Skull Kid was losing all hope of finding a way out and thought that what he had done was a big mistake. As he began to walk slower he kept looking behind him and wondering if Link was there or not. He turned around and finally he had found an entrance. He jumped up and down with glee, starting to dance around. Skull Kid sharply brought this hands to his mouth in case Link may have heard. He leapt forward to the doorway and rushed through. He was very excited and couldn’t wait to see what was on the other side. At the same time though he was very worried about what was on the other side, Skull Kid thought that maybe it could be dangerous and there would be no one there to protect him.
There was some writing on the walls of the tunnel that led down to the new place. It was Hylian though, and Skull Kid could not read it, he lit a torch that was by it to see it better. It read:
You are now exiting Hyrule.
This is the land of Termina!
Skull Kid wondered what it said but carried on none the less, going deeper and deeper into the tunnel. As he slowly crept in, he felt strangely drawn to this place. As if he was being pulled in by some invisible force, but he didn’t like this feeling. And yet, he found it very hard to pull away, so carried on through not thinking what it might be.
Link carried on towards the light, “Epona!” he cried. She galloped up to him. “ That way, towards the light”, he ordered. Epona rushed off with Link on top, as they got closer towards the light. When they got closer Link realised that it was just a torch, and not Navi that he hoped. His smile turned into a frown and he looked at the ground with sadness. Epona reared up and grunted, “What, Epona?” Link questioned. Link got off and saw the writing on the wall that Skull Kid had previously tried to read. He moved his hands over the symbols and pondered. “It’s Hylian, I can’t read it”, he said to himself.
He edged around the wall until he came to what he had been looking for in the first place: an entrance to another part of Hyrule. What he didn’t know though, was that this wasn’t Hyrule at all, it was a new place called Termina, which no Hylian had previously been to. Link had the idea that Navi may have come down here and lit the torch for him to see, so he made his way through on Epona with the hope he’d find what he was searching for.
In the midst of the dark, dingy woods, Navi the Fairy wondered blindly about through the trees looking around as best she could for Link or even Skull Kid! She just didn’t want to be alone in such a strange place. “If I ever see that damn imp again, I’m gonna give him an ear full!” she shrieked, punching the air as she went. She eventually gave up and collapsed on the floor, she had no energy left to fight on, and gradually drifted off to sleep and dreamt of all the time she had with Link.
Chapter Three: The Happy Mask Man
It was not only Link and Skull Kid that wanted to move away from Hyrule, the owner of the Happy Mask Shop also wished to depart. His little shop within the town market was failing and he decided to pack up and become a travel sales man to search out for new customers. This did not sadden him though, he always wanted to be an adventurer, and he heard that Link, The Hero of Time was leaving Hyrule in search of new land.
He packed up his stuff and began to walk towards the forbidden Kokiri Forest. It took him a long time to venture across Hyrule Field, his spirit and moral was kept high, because he knew that he could trust The Hero of Time to find new land. The Mask salesman new that Link would be setting out at dawn so decided to get a head start, as the night drew thin, and the sun started to rise he looked to the east and waited for the young green-clothed boy to arrive.
This man had a little trick up his sleeve, for his masks were not ordinary masks. Each one had some special attribute, and the one he found most useful at the moment was the Bunny Hood. This let him run extremely fast, which would help in travel the long distances, and keep him out of any danger he may encounter.
The Sun began to get higher and the dew on the grass began to seep through the salesman’s shoes. “Urgh”, he muttered, “I didn’t think this adventure stuff would be so wet!” Suddenly he heard a horse coming up round the corner, with the Bunny Hood the man jumped up into a tree and watched Link pass by into his homeland. He leapt out and slowly walked into the woods, where no Hylian should have gone before.
The man let Link go ahead first so he knew where to go as he hid in a bush to avoid contact with the Kokiri. As Link entered the Lost Woods he rushed up to the top, going so fast that the Kokiris couldn’t notice him and stopped by the tunnel going in. He edged forwards and peered through, as he did so he saw a small imp child jumping off a ledge and bobbing along after Link. He smiled, “Looks like someone else wants to get out of here hehe”, the man slowly wandered off behind the Skull Child and kept his distance.
Chapter Four: Skull Kid’s new friends
Skull Kid had finally reached the end of the black tunnel, and came out the other end to a whole new world, much like Hyrule. Never had anyone set foot in this land he thought, but as he ventured further across the field he saw a big town with a huge wall surrounding it. His jaw dropped as he saw many people wandering in and out of it, and soldiers guarding the gates that looked much like the Hylian soldiers at The King’s Castle. “This is it!” he screamed, he jumped up in the air and ran as fast he could towards this new place.
As he approached the town the villagers glared at him. They had never seen an imp from the woods before, and they didn’t like the sight of him there. The people began to talk to each other silently, pointing at him and occasionally laughing. “No”, Skull Kid thought, “it can’t be like this… all I want is somewhere new where I can be accepted!” He headed up to the gate, but was stopped by one of the guards. “I’m sorry, but we can’t have people like you in here. Now scram!” the guard pushed him away with the sword handle and the poor imp scrambled away towards a wooden shelter as the rain began to fall.
Skull Kid sat down and shivered as it got very cold, he could see his breath has he cried out, and his tears were as cold as ice on his hands. He whimpered and put his hands between his knees as all his hopes were shattered. But, to the boy’s surprise two little fairies began to get closer to him, one was black and the other white. “Hallo there”, the white one said, “My name’s Tatl, and this is my brother, Tael,” she introduced. Tael waved and smiled.
“We saw you crying and wondered what the matter was, “ Tael said huddling up to him to keep him warm.
“Yes, what is the matter?” Tatl asked also getting closer. Skull Kid smiled, for the first time he had someone, two in fact, that were being kind to him – they didn’t judge him and he loved that dearly. He drifted off into the story of how he ended up in Termina, but leaving out the bit about kidnapping Navi, he didn’t want to seem like a thief to them.
Skull Kid’s mission was complete, he found friends; something he had always wanted. He had someone to play with and they did a lot of that. Skull Kid had the idea of carving their names and pictures of themselves onto one of the trees to the south of the town near where they had met. This was their sign of friendship that would last forever he hoped. He chuckled, “Let’s go have some fun, shall we?” He smiled slightly forebodingly and the two fairies wondered what he was up to.
The mischievous young Skull Kid pointed towards a traveller with a huge backpack, which he thought must have been full of expensive treasures. “What do you want to do?” Tatl said ominously.
“I just want to have a little look in that man’s backpack…” Skull Kid got up onto his feet and began to scuttle towards the town the man was going to. Tael and Tatl hovered after him with a slight uneasiness. The man entered the town with a sad face, which to Skull Kid thought would make it much easier.
He had to climb over the wall, as he could not enter through the gates. As he reached the top he could see the man walking through the door at the bottom of the Clock Tower. “Hmm… where is he going, eh?” Skull Kid questioned.
“That leads into the clock works, there is also said to be an entrance there to an unknown, dangerous land which we do not know about”, Tatl commented. Skull Kid rubbed his chin. He jumped over the top and landed on the roof of a little stall. The man was talking to some people and showing off his various masks.
He was drawn to this man and his pack, there was something in there that he needed but not even he knew what. It was calling out to him, and he just wanted it so much. The Skull Child sprung off the stall and fell on top of the man bringing him to the ground. The people gasped as the little kid started searching in this salesman’s bag. The man got up and saw that he was reaching out for Majora’s Mask.
“No!” the man cried, he grabbed his bag and held it tight as he ran off into the Clock Tower to escape the little thief.
Chapter 5: Link Loses Another Friend
The young hero was totally lost in this abyss and hadn’t a clue where to go. It was dark on every side of him; wherever he turned he could see no light. Epona was frightened and kept stopping every-so-often which pulled Link back. “I can’t think which way to turn,” Link whimpered. He moved his head side to side erratically trying to find a way. “I thought this was just going to be a one way tunnel… obviously not. I’m sorry Epona”.
Suddenly Link heard a little jingle, and then two lights, one white and the other a darker, purple colour. He jumped up on Epona as the two lights fled away, “Quick Epona!” Link cried out, I think they’re going the way we came, at least we can get out of here!” The horse galloped frantically towards the little specs as more light could be seen further on. When they could finally see he exit the two lights suddenly disappeared in a flash. Link stopped Epona and looked up and around, searching for the two lights. He couldn’t see them, and just carried on.
Link would never give up looking for his fairy friend. He did not care about finding a new place to live anymore he just wanted Navi back. He decided that once he’d found her they’d go straight back to Hyrule and stay there! Him and his steed went deeper into the woods; as she grew tired she just walked slowly and quietly as Link stroked her neck. “Do not worry, Epona,” he calmly said, “we shall find her, and we will get back. We’ll just stop over by that tree for a bit and have some food, okay?”
As Epona slowed down to a near halt, she heard a loud jingling sound behind her. She swooped her head around behind her in alarm, and swiftly turned around again only to see the two fairies there. Epona reared up and shrieked knocking Link off and knocking him out cold. He was not out for long, as Link stood up he saw a small imp in front of him, playing his special Ocarina that Zelda had given to him. He knew it was Skull Kid and crept up behind him. As he edged forwards he snapped a twig, Skull Kid instantly turned around and hid the Ocarina.
“Hehe, hello Link!” he squealed. To Link’s surprise the boy was wearing a strange mask. It was purple in colour, with two huge eyes and spike around its rim.
“Give me back my Ocarina!” he shouted and lunged towards Skull Kid. The imp almost it seemed, flew up in the air and landed on Epona. He smacked her backside and was off! Link jumped up and grabbed hold of the side and was pulled along the ground. He hurt himself a lot from the harsh, sharp forest floor. Skull Kid tried to kick him off but he couldn’t, he decided to go back to Termina with Epona and throw Link off at the corner. As they approached the corner Skull Kid made the horse go faster. Link flung off at the side and watched Skull Kid ride off down a different tunnel.
“Damn you Skull Kid! Come back here!” Link screamed out. He instantly sped off, “you’re not taking her as well!!”
Chapter Six: Not so Happy Mask Man
The mask salesman rushed off as quickly as he could after Skull Kid, he thought that he would find a way through so decided to follow him instead. With Navi he was the only one with light to use. He was catching up with Skull Kid but eventually saw him crash into a tree and knock himself out. He came to his aid, but the fairy was nowhere to be seen. The young Skull Child was going to be out for a while he thought, and decided to move on by himself as light was beginning to show through the misty woods.
The man quite soon after this found a tunnel with relative ease. His masks proved to be very useful in his journey, as he knew they would.
“Hmm, what’s this?” he pondered, “Hylian writing, eh? Let’s see…” he brought his hands to his head, thinking about what it said. “Aha, it says,
‘You are now leaving Hyrule.
This is the land of Termina!’
“How informative,” he thought to himself. He tightened up his straps and walked merrily off into this dark tunnel. It was quite cold in this tunnel, and the man started to shiver as he felt droplets of water drip from the ceiling. The salesman could see a dim firelight in the distance and approached it with caution. As he got closer and closer he saw a small gap between two parts of the wall. He manoeuvred through quietly, and dragged his bag behind him.
He eventually came out the other side, and ended up in a huge field with lots of different monsters wandering about. He could see a town in the distance and decided to go there. This new land scared him slightly; it seemed so different to Hyrule, and yet so similar. The monsters that roamed the land made him very weary and he did not put on a happy face.
He eventually got to the gate of the town and moved on in to see if he could find somewhere to set up a market stall, or some people to try and sell his masks to. He set up a mini stall on the side of the inner wall and went over to some passers to show his masks off.
“Hello there, hee hee hee”, he chuckled. He got some masks out of his pack and the group seemed genuinely interested. “How about this one?” he offered, showing them one of a moustached man with a red cap on.
“Oh no, I don’t like that one very much”, said one woman.
“Okay then”, he went into his pack again and got out a white mask, which had some strange red marking on it. “This here is the Mask of Truth, perfect for you women who like a bit of gossip, eh?” he smiled. Then, suddenly the man felt a large force pushing him towards the floor. He looked up and there was that little imp he had followed here. The imp scrambled around in his bag and he noticed that Skull Kid was pulling out Majora’s Mask.
He cried out and grabbed the child. He snatched the mask from his hands and rushed into the Clock Tower to hide. The group of people started shouting at the child, “Thief! Thief!” Skull Kid chased after the salesman and pushed open the door to the Clock Tower.
As the salesman ran off to the edge he suddenly noticed that the people he was talking to, bared a striking resemblance to the villagers of Hyrule. He would have thought about it more, but the imp was back. He rushed through a big metal door that just opened and went through a strange path that seemed to turn upside down.
He eventually ended up back in the deeper parts of the Lost Woods and yet Skull Kid was still close behind. “Oh I wish he’d go away”, he sobbed. He got himself up and decided to take the imp on. “Alright, little imp! Come and get me!” he cried out. Suddenly the imp swung out of a tree and said,
“Okay!” and smacked the man in the head bringing him to the ground. The two fairies looked at each other in disbelief.
“What has come over him, Tael?” Tatl wondered. Skull Kid had finally found what he wanted… he lifted up Majora’s Mask; the mask that the salesman desperately didn’t want him to obtain.
Skull Kid put the mask on, and darkness came back to the woods once again. He looked at the fairies, and they slightly shivered. “This way”, he squeaked, and slowly scuttled away into the dark, misty void.
Within the darkness lies a small, warm light. The light was on its own, lonely and lost with nowhere to go. This light began to flicker and started getting dimmer. Navi’s eyes began to close as the darkness took hold. She heard footsteps not so far away, and called out as loud she could. The footsteps got louder and louder. Crunch, crunch on the dry leaves and grass, a talon descended and got hold of the light, she then flew away in the midst of the never-ending night.
