INTRODUCTION

Did you ever wonder why something just had to happen to you? I did once. I lost almost everything I had because I was the chosen one. I lost my mother, father, the rest of my family, and most of my friends. All to one man who wanted to rule the world. The King of the Gerudo Thieves, Ganondorf Dragmire. He was more of an evil king to everybody. Well, everybody except for his underlings, that is. Now I am going to tell you how my life went from bad to worse. It all started years ago...

THE LEGEND OF
ZELDA
LOOKING BACK

It all started when I was a baby. The only reason I know of these events is because I have been having dreams of the past lately.

My mother cradled a baby boy, me, in her arms. My father stood behind my mom, resting his head on her shoulder and looking down at me. He wrapped his arms around her waist and she looked at him. “He looks just like you, Dylan,” my mother said.

My father smiled, “He has your eyes, though.”

They sat on a bed that was in the room and smiled down at me. My mother brushed her hand over my cheek. I reached up and took her finger in my small hands and started chewing on it. I didn’t have any teeth, though, so it was more like gumming.

Suddenly, the door shot open! “Kari! Dylan!” the Queen, Mariana, of Hyrule started, “The Damarians! They’re after Link and Zelda!”

My mother and father bolted to a stand-up position. “Why?” asked my father. Mariana shook her head to signify that she didn’t know.

“Mariana, where’s Zelda?” my mother asked, fear evident in her voice.

Mariana pulled back some white cloth of the bundle she had been carrying to reveal a sleeping baby girl. “Safe. For now.”

Then, a Sheikah woman walked into the room. “Highness…” Mariana pointedly cleared her throat at the way the woman addressed her. “Mariana, we have to get to safety!”

“You’re right, Impa.” Mariana turned back to my parents, “I suggest that you get Link somewhere safe. I’ll see to it that Zelda gets to a secure location as well.” Mariana turned to leave.

“Wait!” my mother called, “Dylan’s going with you!”

“What are you talking about Kari?” my father inquired.

“Go with them. Help protect Zelda.”

“What about you?” Impa asked from across the room.

“I’ll be fine. I’ll take Link someplace where they’ll never think to look.”

“But, Kari…” my father protested.

My mother kissed him, then broke away after a few moments. “Go. I’ll be fine. And so will Link.” My mother wwent over to a crib and grabbed a blue blanket. She wrapped the blanket around me. Then, she handed me to my father and let him hold me one last time while she put on her cloak. Then, she came over, took me in her arms, and said her good-byes. Then, she left.
