Prologue
Beyond the Trees
Throughout history, and even before, people thought of stories to tell. They tell stories of heroes and villains, princes and princesses, and swords. Throughout time, people have changed the stories to fit their wants or desires. They change the hero to reflect themselves, or their visions of themselves. Some stories continue to change, as they are retold over and over again. But then, there are those stories that never change. There are those stories that are timeless, that never fade, that never falter. These stories are called legends.
Legends never die.
One legend tells of a man. He stood six foot tall, with fine blonde hair. He was clothed in the best adult rendition of a Kokiri tunic, which was sewn together by the best seamstress in the world. He wore long green pants; the legs fell over the tops of his boots. He wore a pair of brown gauntlets, which had a emblem of three triangles carved into the back of it’s hand. He wore the traditional green Kokiri cap, with the point that fell to his shoulders. The man had no weapons, but you could tell by his biceps that he had been used to swords. His physique was exceptional; broad shouldered and cut.
The man was Link, whose legacy precedes him.
On his shoulder sat a blue ball with two crystal wings on its sides. That was Avon, Link’s fairy. They met when Link was running through the woods, and Avon has stick lodged in his wing. Link was kind enough to remove the stick, and he allows Avon to travel with him until his wing recovers.
The duo walked through the damp woods, greeted by the green and yellow glow of the sun breaking through the canopy of the trees. Link enjoyed the subtle environment of the woods. It was free of the clamor that was found in the cities. Instead, the gentle chirping of birds comforted him.
“You’re being quiet,” Avon said. His voice was childish, even though he was only two years younger then Link.
“I love the woods. It’s so peaceful. I was simple admiring the solitude,” Link said, “but, anyway you look at it, I’m not alone. You’re here, and within a few hours, we’ll reach our destination. I’ll finally be home.”
“Home?” Avon sounded confused.
“Yes. I’ve been gone for so long. I left when eight years ago, searching for a friend. I realize now that my search is over. It’s time for me to go home, for good,” Link stated. A smirk crept across his face as he envisioned the faces of those who knew him.
“Okay! It would be nice to see your home…I bet there are some fine fairies there!” Avon said.
“You got to be joking me!” Link said, now breaking into a full smile.
“No joke! I’m a single male fairy! That by it’s self isn’t that masculine! I need to get a girlfriend now before people look at me weird!” Avon exclaimed. Link covered his mouth with his hand to cover his laugh.
“Come on, people aren’t that dense! They barely notice that you’re a guy anyway!” Link said.
“Link, you’re hurting, not helping!” Avon flared. His color temporarily turned red, for anger. Link began to laugh harder.
“Wow, I haven’t laughed like that in a while,” Link said while catching his breath. Avon strode on Link’s shoulder, and kicked Link in the ear.
“That’s what I can’t stand about Hylians !” Avon said. Link rubbed his ear, still smiling. The two walked through the forest for a while longer, being thankful for the lack of bushes. After a while, Link saw something like smoke in the a gap between some trees. Link sped up, hoping that a forest fire hadn’t started. His walk became a run as he rushed to see what the cause of the fire was.
When he reached the gap, he was surprised to find a campsite. There was a bonfire in the center, with supplies for cooking and such. The tent was extremely large; it even overshadowed some trees. Link scratched his head in confusion.
“Who’s there!” Some thunderous voiced summoned. Link looked towards the tent, his eyes wide. The tent ruffled as some enormous figure opened the makeshift cloth door. Link took a step back as a gigantic man in frightening red and black armor approached. He wielded a huge red axe, and he held it like it was light as a feather. He took a step towards Link, and when his foot crashed into the ground, hundreds of bird flew away from the leaves of the trees, scattering frantically. Link’s eyes narrowed as the figure drew nearer.
“Why are you here?” The figure demanded.
“I’m just trying to go home,” Link said. His voice was much more threatening now.
“My, you have a temper, little man! You must not know who I am!” The man lowered his head down to Link’s height, “I am the one of the Red Guards! I am the keeper of the Crimson Axe!” He declared.
“Whatever. Just let me go already!” Link said impatiently.
“Don’t you understand the concept of a guardian? I’m here to keep people from passing!” He yelled.
“What do I have to do to pass?” Link asked.
“You have to defeat me in combat!” He yelled. Link rolled his eyes.
“I guess that you just couldn’t be a little more original! Intelligent guardians know to make a puzzle or something to keep people from passing,” Link taunted. Avon climbed up Link’s head and hid inside Link’s cap.
The Guardian unleashed a loud roar, on that shook the ground. Link stood unmoved. The Guardian swung his mighty axe, striking the ground so hard that it rippled like water. Several trees fell or bent from the force. When the Guardian raised his axe, he found that Link had disappeared. He looked all around the area, not finding the man.
“Now I feel what Avon feels like,” Link joked. The Guardian turned his head to see Link standing on his shoulders. Link could see the shock in the Guardian’s eyes, but it didn’t stop him from delivering a kick to his head. The Guardian stumbled, trying to keep his balance. Link leapt off his shoulders, and got into a kneeling position. When the Guardian regained his composure, Link used his stance to launch himself towards the Guardian. He clenched his fist and delivered a thundering punch to the Guardian’s chest. The armor cracked and broke, pieces shattering to the ground. Link landed, and looked up to his foe.
“How can you be so strong?” the Guard muttered stupidly. Link smirked, but his eyes were serious.
“You’ll never know true strength unless you learn some modesty,” Link said, “You’re too confident in your power that you aren’t smart enough to be aware of you’re opponent speed. Don’t worry, if I were you, I would just accept the fact that you didn’t stand a chance against me,” Link began to walk by the Red Guardian as if nothing happened.
“You’re just like Zelda said…powerful enough to take on anyone, from me to Ganon,” Link’s whole body snapped around to face the Guardian.
“Wait, no one should remember that!” Link said. He defeated Ganondorf in an alternate timeline.
“Yes we should. The timelines merged together…in the Great Memory. Everything that happened in your adventure happened here, and everything that happened while you were gone happened. If you were too return, you would be famous, just like Zelda said,” He uttered. He then passed out, probably from his injury. Link looked at the ground, a slight smile approaching.
“Hmm, that means that all the friends I made in the future will remember me,” Link said. Avon raised Link’s cap, and returned to Link’s shoulder. The two began to walk again, leaving the Guardian to rest.
The two walked for an hour when the trees began to clear. They approached the end of the forest, and as they pulled the brush out of their way, Link covered his eyes from the flood of sunlight. As his eyes adjusted, he could see the endless plain of grass, leading to the high walls of the ranch. He could see the stream that connected Lake Hylia to the Zora domain. He could catch a glimpse of the Lost Woods, his first home. He could also see the mighty Death Mountain, and it’s majestic ring of white smoke.
And to the north, he could see the fairytale like castle. The white marble spires and the blue roofed wings mesmerized him. For the first time, he took in the beauty of Hyrule, his home.
Can an Entire Race be Evil? by Blind Blitz
Link stood in complete dismay. It was hard to believe that his home remained untouched after all the time he was long. If what the Red Guardian said was true, then this place had also just recovered from a war, but it was hard to tell. Link began to stroll through the field, taking in the warm heat of the summer afternoon. Link still scanned the area, looking to see anything new. He looked near the Gerudo Fortress, an noticed something new. There was a huge black tower, one that was never there. It had a wide basin, with a pointed top. The top cut into the clouds, and it seemed like it was continuing to go higher.
“Avon, have you ever seen that thing?” Link asked.
“Well, I’ve heard rumors about a tower that was made to reach heaven, but I never took the time to investigate. So, where are we going to go first?”
“I plan to go see Zelda,” Link said without delay.
“Zelda? Go Link! How long have you been getting love from the Princess?” Avon asked. Link blushed, taken aback by the question.
“Whoa, it’s not like that! We’re just friends!” Link blurted. It must have looked incriminating.
“Yeah, right, sure. Link, be honest. You must have some kind of love for her,” Avon said.
“Listen, I feel something from her, but it feels like what you feel for a really good friend. Nothing more, end of discussion!” Link said with finality. Link began to walk in the direction towards the castle. Suddenly, Link snapped his head back.
“Oh, crap! I need to check on my horse!” Link exclaimed suddenly. Avon, from surprise, fell off Link’s shoulder, hitting the ground. Avon then flew up to Link’s face.
“What’s with scaring me like that? I thought that you remembered something important!” Avon yelled. Link chuckled.
“I see that your wing is all better,” Link said. Avon looked at both his wings, and grew silent.
“You’re right…I can fly again!” He declared with enthusiasm.
“So, I guess this is where our paths split?” Link asked. They had agreed to only travel together as long as Avon couldn’t fly.
“No! Come on, you need me! I could be you assistant in battle and stuff!” Avon insisted.
“Who ever said that I’m going to be in battle?” Link countered.
“Well, I can help you with the ladies!” Avon pleaded, “Nothing says sensitive like a man with a fairy!”
“Sorry to break you’re heart, but I don’t need help with the ladies!” Links said. He wasn’t cocky, but he knew women loved to be with him. He never let it get to his head though.
“Well, I…I…I can do this!” Avon began to do loops in the air.
“What does that have to do with anything?” Link asked.
“It’s just plain cool! Wait, I know how I can convince you!” Avon then flew over Link’s head and pulled his cap from his head.
“Hey, give that back!” Link yelled. He reached for it, but Avon flew out of Link’s reach. Link rubbed the exposed back of his head, and glared at Avon angrily.
“So, can I come along?” Avon asked teasingly.
“Avon…I’m going to kill you,” Link growled.
“I guess that’s a yes!” Avon put the cap back on Link’s head, and returned to his place on Link’s shoulder.
“Alright, let’s get to the ranch!” Link and Avon began to walk up the steep hill of the ranch. Link always wondered how they built this place on the highest part of Hyrule Field, and managed to keep it in order. It always confused him. It’s the hottest place in Hyrule besides the desert. Link just figured that the heat was for the horses. Link entered the ranch through the huge front gate. Inside, there were three or four wooded houses, and a stable, where all the horses were kept. Past all the structures, there was the gated field where the horses galloped and jumped. Link smiled as he remembered the time when Ingo made him and Epona, his horse, jump all of the gates, and race him. It was one of the most fun Link ever had. And if he remembered correctly, everyone here would remember it too. Link scanned the area for his horse. In the corner, he saw the reddish coat of hair that only his horse had. It had a white mane, with a white tail. It was about as tall as Link now, with a similar attitude. His horse was always daring and brave, sometimes Link believed that his horse and him shared the same mind. Another memory that came was the time when Link and Epona jumped the Gerudo Canyon when the bridge had collapsed. Link had his doubts, but Epona jumped over the gap without thinking, making it safely. Link walked into the pen, and over to his horse. He patted Epona a few times, and Epona looked at Link affectionately. Link smiled, and climbed onto Epona’s back.
“Hey, you there!” Someone yelled. Link turned to the direction of the yell, and saw a beautiful woman with short brown hair. She walked up to Link and Epona, and stared angrily. She wore a white shirt and a blue long skirt. Avon, flew to her and began to circle around her.
“Is there a problem?” Link asked.
“Yeah! I’m not going to let you steal my horse!” She yelled. Link’s mouth dropped.
“You think I’m a thief?” Link said, making the most innocent face he could, and he also pointed at himself.
“Yeah! You’re kind have been trying to steal our horses for months now!” She screamed. Link couldn’t have her screaming like that. He was afraid that people would think he was doing something to her.
“Hey, I own this horse! The ranch girl gave him to me as a gift!” He said.
“Wait, that’s not true! Some messenger just brought this here a few years ago! She hasn’t even thought about selling her!” The brown haired girl yelled.
“Why don’t we just ask her?” Link asked. He was trying really hard to keep his cool. She was ticking him off. Link got off Epona’s back, and walked towards the entrance of the Ranch. The brown haired girl led Link into one of the wooden houses, and she leaned against the wall. Link remembered this room. He played the super chicken game here. Now, all the chickens were gone, and there was a desk with two chairs across from each other. Link heard something crash, so he looked in that direction. There was a staircase, leading to door at the top. The door burst open, and a girl stumbled out.
It felt like time slowed for Link. The first thing Link noticed was the long flame red hair that fell to the middle of the girls back. It seemed to have natural highlights; making it look like the sun itself kissed it. Her eyes opened; and Link fell into her soul through the deep blue pools of her eyes. He skin was flawless, a delicate peach color. She wore a an outfit similar to the brown haired girls, but it seemed to flow better in Link’s eyes. Link’s heart jumped out of his chest from some unknown excitement. He could never remember a more beautiful woman.
She regained her balance, and looked into the room. Three men wearing cloaks all emerged. They all had blue hair and swords, the man in the middle had a gruesome scar on his cheek.
“Listen, Malon, we won’t be nice about it! Sell us that horse, or we’ll take it!” The scarred man yelled. Link’s eyes narrowed again, as his anger began to rise.
“No! I won’t sell Epona to common thugs like you!” Malon said. She scurried down the stairs, and grabbed a pitchfork from the wall. She held it to the scarred mans face. He merely strode to her spot, and unsheathed his sword.
“Listen, we’ve taken every other horse on this rundown ranch. We thought we were being nice, coming here, offering to pay for the red one. I guess we should have realized that you would be difficult!” He yelled. He then swung his sword, breaking the pitchfork, and tearing a cut in Malon’s shoulder. Malon screamed, either in shock or pain.
“That’s enough!” Link yelled. The blue haired men all faced Link and drew their swords. Link merely clenched his fists, not having a sword of his own.
“Wait! I know that glare!” The smallest man trembled, and pinned himself against the wall. “He’s the one from the stories! That man…Link, the Hero of Time!” The man yelled. Link cocked his eyebrow, mildly amused.
“Link? No, the stories said that Link left, never to return. This is just a look a like!” The scarred man reasoned. Link chucked under his breath.
“Why don’t me and you step outside and we’ll find out?” Link challenged. Link led the way, and he walked out to where the horses were. He stood in the most uninhabited place he could find, and waited for his opponent to get ready. The scarred man got in position, ready to fight. They both stared at each other, both wearing equal masks of disgust.
The scared man made the first move. He dashed towards Link, sword raised. Link dodged, and placed his hands behind his back. The guy swung again, and Link did a backbend to dodge. Every blow the man attempted, Link dodged. When Link tried rolling to dodge, the man got frustrated and tried to kick Link. Link smirked, and when the man tried to kick Link, Link did a sweep kick. He struck the mans non kicking leg, bringing him crashing into the ground. Link then leapt as high into the air as he could. When he reached his highest distance, which was clear over the houses, he came back down, using the momentum to strike the scarred man with hammer like strike. The scarred man’s body laid motionless; clearly knocked out from the attack.
“That attack probably damaged his back…I hit him with a lot of force. He won’t be able to walk for about a month,” Link said calmly. The man’s crew, who were at a loss for words, ran to their friend’s side and scooped up his lifeless body. The carried him out of the ranch, dropping him a few times. Link turned to Malon and the brown haired girl, and his eyes softened. He smiled sheepishly.
“Link, you finally returned!” Malon exclaimed. She ran to Link and hugged him. Link’s face felt like it was on fire. Link remembered Malon now. She was the girl who gave Link Epona. She looked more beautiful now then what she did in the past.
“Malon, how have you been?” Link asked.
“Up and down, It’s been easier since my assistant returned though!” She exclaimed, “Link, this is Pamela, my best friend and assistant!”
“We’ve met,” Link said, looking at Pamela with a smile. Pamela walked up to Link, very seductively. Link could feel a sweat drop on his forehead.
“I sorry about what happened earlier. Maybe I can apologize over dinner sometime?” She offered. Link took a step back.
“I’m going to be a little busy for the next week. Maybe some other time?” Link said.
“I’m Link’s faithful fairy!” Avon exclaimed He appeared behind Pamela, “I’m Avon, and I’m available 24/7! If you want, we can…” He then whispered something in Pamela’s ear. Pamela’s eyes grew big, and she quickly swatted Avon to the ground.
“Hey, you can’t do that, I’m injured…” Avon stuttered.
“Perverted fairy,” Pamela muttered. Link laughed, but tried to cover it in a cough.
“So, how has Epona been while I’ve been gone?” Link asked. A few years back, Link had Epona delivered back to the ranch.
“She’s grown to be one of the most beautiful horses we have!” Malon exclaimed. Link smiled, looking back at his gorgeous horse.
“Where’s a hero like you going after this place?” Pamela asked.
“I’m going to the castle to see how Zelda’s doing. Then I’ll probably look for somewhere to get a house built,” Link said. He hadn’t thought too much on where he was going to live.
“How about you room here while you’re house gets built?” Malon offered.
“I can?” Link asked.
“Yeah, we have that extra house. We only really use it for a monument, there’s plenty of room! Besides, we could use the extra help around here,” Malon explained. Link nodded, and flashed Malon a thankful smile.
“Sure, I’ll come by after my visit with Zelda,” Link turned, getting ready to leave.
“Link, be careful. There are a lot of Palinons in Hyrule now,” Pamela warned.
“Palinons?” Link sounded truly confused.
“Yes, there the race that lives far, far to the east. They are a fighting race, so every one of them is cunning and ruthless in a fight. Palinons all have blue hair, and most of them carry their weapons everywhere,” Pamela explained.
“Those guys I fought were Palinons, weren’t they?” Link asked.
“Yeah, they were weak though. They got their kicks from harassing women and stealing. Some, like the legendary Kitapos Elite Palinon, can kill entire armies in minutes,” Pamela warned. Malon looked at Link terrified.
“Kitapos? I’ll have to look out for them. If they’re as bad as you say, then I may be in trouble. Well, see you girls later! Avon, get up, it’s time to go,” Link said. He wore a confident look, so the girls wouldn’t worry.
Link and Avon walked to the front gate of Hyrule. The huge wooden drawbridge was down, making it easy to get into the market. Inside the market, dozens of people sold goods and bought goods. Occasionally, a thief would grab something, only to get caught the next minute. Link noticed that as he walked through, it got quieter. People looked at him curiously, some pointed, and occasionally the words “Hero of Time” would escape someone’s lips.
Link also noticed the startling number of blue haired people, the Palinons. He had never heard of one before, now they were everywhere. They all were in sections by themselves. No normal Hylian dared to get near them. And just as Pamela said, they all had weapons.
Link walked past the market and into the castle’s front entrance. Link could never get over the sheer beauty of the castle. He never understood how Hylians could make this godly structure. It baffled his mind.
As he approached the front gate, the guards looked at him with dismay. One dropped his spear in surprise.
“Hello, I’m here to see Princess Zelda,” Link said.
“Follow me!” The one who dropped his spear said. They pulled back the gate without hesitation, and the guard led Link to the drawbridge that separated the castle from the
“Why are you so nervous?” Link asked.
“I’m just curious…are you Link?” The guard asked.
“Of course he’s Link!” Avon yelled.
“Yes, I’m Link,” Link answered.
“Oh my goodness! My wife is going to be so surprised! She said I was in a nowhere job, but now I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the Savior! My names Dierro!” He exclaimed.
“Nice to meet you Dierro. I need to see Zelda, but maybe we’ll have a chat after my meeting,” Link said. Dierro took a step back in shock.
“I’m honored, but I need to hurry home after this. I work two jobs, trying to sustain a good life for my daughter. You know, trying to make ends meet!” He said.
“How old is your daughter?” Link asked.
“She’ll be one year old in a month. She’s such a wonderful bundle of joy. Even with her condition,” Dierro said.
“Condition?” Link inferred.
“Yeah, she was born with a defect. She’s mute. It’s hard not hearing her laugh, and knowing that she’ll never do so, but it’s what the goddesses intended. Maybe she’ll be a great scientist! You don’t need to talk to do that!” Dierro said. Link truly felt sorry for this guy.
“You’re a strong man,” Link said.
“Not anywhere near as strong as you!” He complimented.
“You’re right. You’re even stronger, my brother,” Link said. Link swore that he saw a tear swell up in Dierro’s eyes.
“Link, you have no idea how much it means to hear that from you! I’ll work three times harder to be even stronger for my daughter!” He said. He scurried back to his spot to stand guard. As Dierro scurried, the drawbridge of the castle opened. Link walked inside, and side the inside of the castle for the first time.
The inside was draped in different family crests and chandeliers. The carpet was plush purple and gold, the colors of Hylian royalty. The walls were a shiny blue marble, with a reflective quality. Link gasped as he took in the sight. He was a little confused on why there were no guards. He looked around, trying to figure out where to go. There was a door to the left, with a sign saying meeting room. Link walked up to it, and placed his hand on the handle. When he did, his mind was flooded with emotions. He swallowed his spit, and opened the door.
What is the Second Relic by Blind Blitz
Inside, the room was dark, but warm. It seemed like Link was in a hallway, because he could see light in the distance. He walked towards the light, which was a pale blue. Link could see the movement of several figures, one was huge, like a boulder. E could also see that curvy figures of a few females. Link couldn’t make out who they were, so he moved in closer, but stayed out of anyone’s sight. He leaned against a wall, covered in shadows.
Link’s eyes widened as he realized who everyone was. They were that six Sages, Nabooru of the Gerudo, Ruto of the Zora, Darunia of the Goron, Impa of the Shiekah, Saria of the Kokiri, Rauru of Light, and Link also recognized the seventh Sage, one of his best friends, Zelda. They all stood on one side of a large meeting table, and Link could now only recognized their profiles.
“Okay, let me lay the terms of this negotiation. There will be no threats of war in this meeting. Bringing up personal issues of blackmail is not allowed. Violent actions against he sages and me is not allowed,” Zelda said. Zelda was extremely beautiful. Anyone could tell you that, but to see her was to see the goddesses themselves. Zelda had straight blonde hair, not a single hair was out of place or split at the end. She had a flawless physique, with a figure that men would die to see. Her smile was enough to make her kingdom stand still; no one, not even the women wanted to miss seeing Zelda’s pearly white smile. Her eyes were the same color as Links, a deep cobalt color. She wore the traditional outfit for a princess, a pink and whit blouse with the purple long skirt that had many crests and designs on it. Link wondered how she was still single.
“Agreed, Honorable Zelda,” Someone said. When Link heard the voice, his whole body trembled. Link gazed around the corner to see who was on the other side of the table. There stood six figures, five of them were shrouded in darkness. The only one not covered in shadow was a tall man with blue hair. He wore an elaborate black and blue outfit, with a stylized dragon on the back. He had a sword on his back, with a gorgeous bronze hilt. He stared at Zelda and her council with mild amusement.
“Link, what’s Zelda doing meeting with Palinons? Avon whispered.
“I don’t know. Get under my hat, I don’t want your light giving me away,” Link said. Avon quickly got under Link’s hat. Link then listened to the meeting again.
“Donovan, I do believe that you understand why I called this meeting. I told you upon your arrival that I didn’t want that tower to disrupt the people of Hyrule,” Zelda said.
“With all do respect, that tower is nothing more then a training ground. It’s just a tower I made for my students. You know that I’m searching for an Honorable,” The tall man said. Link figured that was Donovan.
“Please, be realistic. The Sage Council is not clueless,” Ruto said.
“I do agree,” Donovan said. Link could clearly see a ghostly smile on his face, “Which is why I asked permission to build in the first place.”
“When you requested permission to build, you never said that you would build a tower that big,” Zelda countered.
“Listen, Zelda, Let’s skip all of the speculation. You know why I built the tower, don’t you?” Donovan asked.
“I believe that you wished to train soldiers who could combat the Hylian army,” Zelda said calmly.
“Zelda, if I wanted to combat your army, all I would need is my Kitapos and myself.” Donovan replied. He signaled to the figures behind him.
“Then why would you build a training ground?” Zelda asked, obviously taken aback by Donovan’s comment.
“Miss Zelda, have you ever heard the story of Sky Temple?” Donovan asked. Zelda took a step back and gasped. Link put a hand over his mouth to hide his shock.
“Donovan, you know that it’s important to separate fact from fiction,” Impa said.
“I don’t believe that I asked for your opinion,” Donovan said, slightly agitated, “Besides, your own history states many claims to the existence of Sky Temple.”
“Not every fact is accurate. According to history books, the Kokiri are extinct,” Saria said matter-of-factly.
“I understand your doubts. No one has ever seen it, but it does exist. It’s sad when people from other countries no more about your home then what you do,” Donovan said.
“Donovan, I know of Sky Temple’s existence. It hides in the sky for a reason. Mere mortals aren’t meant to mess with the treasure inside,” Zelda said. Link had heard the legend of Sky Temple. His old teacher had once told him that Sky Temple held some dark energy inside of it.
“I’m sure you know why no mortal Hylian can get there,” Donovan said, “Hylians have the Primary Relic, so they have no need for another. We Palinons have a need for the Second Relic thought’” Donovan stood, and the Sage side began to stir uncomfortably, “You know that wars have been triggered because of the Primary Relic. You knew that it was only a matter of time before the information behind the second Relic was leaked. No one believes that the Relic that you can’t even use should be held in your country!” Donovan thundered. He clenched his fists.
“Listen, the Second Relic was placed here for a purpose. It was given to a race who couldn’t use it because we’re the only one’s who won’t abuse it! If it was ever used for the wrong deed, it could mean the destruction of the entire world!” Rauru yelled.
“All of those are fabrications! You asked me not to question your intelligence, I would think you had the decency not to question mine!” Donovan yelled. Donovan then held his left hand up.
Link felt another shiver. The back of Donovan’s hand began to glow an eerie blue and purple. Link could see the faint outline of a triangle on the back of Donovan’s hand. Link’s eyes grew wide as the triangle was broken up into three more triangles, and they all began to pulse blue.
“Wait, it couldn’t be!” Zelda gasped. The glowing stopped, and Donovan looked triumphant.
“That was an emulator of the Second Relic,” Donovan said, “I had to use a glove I found here to make it work. I believe this glove once belonged to His Excellency, Lord Ganondorf.” Link felt his stomach drop as Donovan uttered that name. Ganondorf was the man Link defeated, the man that Zelda sealed in the sacred realm, the man who made Hyrule hell for so long. His name was enough to bring panic to thousands, and Donovan uttered it like it was the name of his best friend. And to make things worse, he wore Ganondorf’s glove, Ganondorf’s abominable glove. Link growled, not knowing that he did so. Apparently someone on Donovan’s side heard him. A woman stepped out of the shadows. Link swallowed as this woman stepped up to Donovan from behind and wrapped her arms around his waist. She stood on her tiptoes and whispered in Donovan’s ear. Even in Link’s anger, he had to admit. This woman was the third most beautiful woman Link had seen, next to Zelda and Malon. He had long blue hair, a slender figure, and a slightly revealing blue and black outfit.
“Donovan, it seems we have a guest, as you had figure we would have,” She said. Even her voice was sexy. Link knew that he was discovered now. He stepped out of the shadows, and walked up to the table. All of the Sages looked surprised, and Link could tell that they wanted to show Link their welcomes right there, but in the presence of Donovan, they couldn’t.
“Link! I didn’t expect you back!” Zelda gasped.
“I didn’t expect to see you at such a negative time,” Link replied with a smile. Link then snapped his attention to Donovan, and his eyes narrowed and grew fierce just like they do when he’s ready to fight, “Donovan, I believe. You do know that you ruined my visit with my friends, do you?”
“Oh well,” Donovan said. His face was covered in a devilish smirk. His eyes showed interest. Link noticed that the girl was still hugging Donovan’s back.
“Listen, I’m not sure what all this Second Relic business is, but no matter what it is, if you have to use any thing that belonged to Ganondorf, it can’t be good!” Link declared.
“Link, is it? Well, do you even know what the Second Relic is?” Donovan asked.
“Never thought about it,” Link answered.
“It’s the Triforce! Well, that’s what the Primary Relic is. The Second Relic is the Dark Triforce, made for all of the other races in the world. Hylians can never touch the Dark Triforce. As you may have noticed, it doesn’t matter that the Hylians have it if they can never use it!” Donovan declared. Link looked at Zelda, confused.
“Link, the Dark Triforce was created to absorb the dark energy of the world, like how the Light Triforce absorbs the light energy of the world. The two relics need each other to survive. With out one, the world’s energy would be out of control,” Zelda explained.
“The two relic also have the duty of canceling each other out. Without one, the world would lean towards the other energy. If there were no Light Triforce, the world would be overrun with evil. Without the Dark Triforce, the world would have only positive emotions,” Donovan said
“So, wouldn’t the world be better without the Dark Triforce?” Link asked.
“Life can not exist without good and evil. If everything was shielded by good, then people would have anything to stride for, so people would lose their will to live. It would lead to the end of the world,” Zelda said. Link turned his attention back to Donovan.
“Why do you want to use the Dark Triforce?” Link asked.
“I have many deed to do for my country. I need to make my country stronger…so that we can be the greatest in the world,” Donovan declared.
“And what would you do with that strength?” Link asked.
“Link, you’ll never understand what one does with power. I have always wanted to be king of the entire world…I could use my power to control everything! I could make the world bow down to me only! I could be the world’s new God!” Donovan looked up, as if he was seeing heaven. Link glared in disgust.
“No mortal is meant to be God!” Link growled.
“No one? Interesting,” Donovan started, “That sounds like something that your king would tell me.” Donovan said, “Now that I look, the resemblance is uncanny. You both have the same fierce eyes.”
“What are you talking about?” Link asked.
“Wait, Zelda, you never told him the truth?” Donovan asked.
“Shut up Donovan. I just found out a year ago,” Zelda said.
“What are you two talking about,” Link demanded.
“Link, do you remember your mother?” Donovan asked.
“No, not really. All I know is that she escaped the town during a battle,” Link said.
“There’s more to it. You never wondered why your mother died on the same day as the Queen of Hyrule?” You never wondered why you and Zelda look so much alike?” Donovan taunted. Link’s eyes grew wide as he realized what Donovan was saying.
“Wait…you mean?” Link started.
“Yes! Your mother was the Queen of Hyrule!” Link’s legs felt like jelly, “Link, your father, the King, was out of Hyrule at the time and he had your sister! Your mother was still here with you when the castle was attacked. She ran to the Kokiri forest and died. The King believed that you were dead too, so he never made a rescue operation. Instead he raised his daughter into the fine woman she is today.” Link glanced at Zelda.
“You mean…Zelda’s my sister?” Link asked.
“Yes!” Donovan exclaimed, “I can’t believe that you never figured it out!”
“I’m a prince…no…It can’t be true! Zelda would have told me!” Link yelled.
“I grow tired of debating. I’ll leave with one comment,” Donovan turned and led his people down the hall. He then turned back and looked directly at Link.
“I will be more then just a legend to my people…I will be a god, then I will avenge the souls of my fellow Palinons!” and with that, him and his cloud of followers left. Link was left speechless and confused.
Zelda led the sages out of the room, and Link followed with his head down. No one could tell how angry Link was because his hair fell over his face. When everyone was in the main hall, Zelda turned to Link.
“Zelda, tell me. Is it true?” Link asked.
“Link…I’ve only known for a year. I know that I should have tried to find you and tell you…” Zelda started.
“I didn’t ask that…Is it true?” Link asked again.
“Yes Link…” Zelda said. Zelda looked at Link like she was sorry. Then, her eyes widened with surprise when Link raised his head. He wore a loving smile, although he had long streams of tears falling from his eyes.
“I really have a family…I have a father and a sister?” Link asked through his smiles and his tears. Zelda scurried to Link and hugged him. The held each other in that embrace what felt like an eternity.
“Link…my brother…it’s good to have you back,” Zelda said. You could tell that she was about to cry.
“Same here…sis..” Link chuckled as he said that. He always wanted a brother or sister. Now, he had one. After 21 years of being without a family, he finally had someone. He had his sister.
“So…Link…Not to break up a happy reunion, but since Zelda is you sister, and not you girl, can we hurry up and get married?” Ruto asked. Link and Zelda both looked at her with surprise. They let go of each other and glared at Ruto.
“Whoa, Link!” Avon said. He emerged from Link’s hat and flew to Ruto, “You getting married to a girl with no clothes!” Avon chirped. As soon as he said that, Ruto slapped him to the ground.
“Link, is that your new fairy?” Zelda asked.
“Yeah, he’s Avon, the world’s biggest playboy,” Link said. Avon rose again, and looked at Zelda.
“Hmm, who cares for a girl with no clothes when you got a goddess like her in front of you!” Avon started.
“You know I’m Link’s sister, right?” Zelda replied. Avon turned red, and flew in front of Link’s face.
“Link…I got a bone to pick with you,” Avon said.
“What’s up?” Link asked, after he dried his eyes.
“Why didn’t you tell me that Zelda was your sister?” Avon flew closer to Link’s head.
“I just found out,” Link replied, “What are you planning?”
“Well, amateur, let’s just say that I’m about to become your brother-in-law,” Avon said devilishly. He returned to being blue. He flew over to Zelda and landed on her shoulder.
“Zelda, how about you and me go up to the tallest wing in this castle. If you close the door for two hours…I’ll give Link a little nephew,” Avon said. Zelda pondered for a minute, then she realized what he had proposed. She smacked Avon harder then any other girl. Avon crashed into a decorative shield, and he fell to the ground with a thud.
“Damn…that’s the longest Avon-Slapping distance yet,” Link said in awe. Zelda looked at Link and laughed.
“Wow, I hope we can good times like this all the time, Zelda said.
“Yeah…well, I have some questions for you,” Link said, “I think that there are some thing about Donovan that I need to know,” Link said.
“Are you sure you want to know? What I have to say will make you look at our entire country in a new light,” Zelda said.
“I need to know…there’s too many mysteries around Donovan and the Second Relic. I need to know,” Link said.
“Okay…but I warned you,” Zelda said.
Link gulped again, and waited to hear the truth
How Can You Live After Taking Another's Life? by Blind Blitz
“Link, I trust you know what a Palinon is, right?” Zelda asked.
“Yes, they’re the race of warriors that live to the east,” Link replied.
“Okay. As you may have guessed, Donovan is a Palinon. He’s a very influential Palinon,” Zelda said.
“What makes him so influential?” Link asked.
“Simple. He’s the former King of Palis, the Palinon’s homeland,” Zelda replied, “He stepped down from the throne around two years after our birth.”
“Wait, he doesn’t look no older then me!” Link argued.
“That’s been a mystery. Some believe that he made a wish to never age and to never catch a disease. It makes sense, because there are no records of him ever getting sick,” Zelda explained.
“So, he can’t age and he can’t get sick? That means he can’t die,” Link figured.
“That’s something I don’t believe. Another rumor I heard about him is that he can be killed, but only by his Honor,” Zelda said.
“What’s his Honor?”
“His Honor is a rival that Donovan chooses. The moment that the Honor is chosen, Donovan and his Honor are destined to fight to the death,” Zelda paced a little, “The funny thing is, Donovan came to Hyrule to find an Honor.”
“You would think that he would stay in Palis. The Palinons are the fighting race,” Link said.
“I know, but he came here,” Zelda said darkly. Avon flew onto Link’s shoulder.
“I have a Theory! Donovan’s after the Dark Triforce! Maybe he plans to use the Dark Triforce to find create an Honor!” Avon said. Link and Zelda both looked at Avon skeptically.
“Well, it’s possible…wait! That could be it!” Zelda said.
“See, I’m smarter then I act!” Avon gloated.
“Link, if you found out that someone defeated the most powerful being that the Dark Triforce could create, you would fear it, right?” Zelda asked.
“Of course!” Link said without hesitation.
“Link, if Donovan was to defeat something like that, then entire countries would fear him! He would easily rise up as a God that way!” Zelda said, “He could make every nation submit to him through fear!”
“Hmm, that sounds like something Ganondorf would do,” Link replied with a certain tone of anger.
“Yeah, but Ganondorf’s empire would have been the end of the world. Donovan is used to running a successful country,” Zelda admitted, “Palis was, and still is one of the world’s most dominate countries. Donovan whipped them into shape when he was running things.”
“Wait, so he isn’t evil?” Link asked.
“Link, everything isn’t always split between good and evil. Yes, Donovan’s a good leader, but no one is ready to lead the entire world,” Zelda reasoned.
“Zelda, there’s one more thing that’s bothering me. What did he mean when he said that he would avenge the souls of his fellow Palinons?” Link asked.
“I was hoping that you wouldn’t ask about that,” Zelda said.
“Tell me,” Link said slowly.
“Okay. The year before we were born, there was a worldwide conflict. A major demon had created and army, and was waging war against the entire world. At this time, Palis and Hyrule were allies, and fought alongside eachother. The battled moved to Death Mountain. Even with the Palinons helping us, we were still losing the war. Then, our father’s advisor ordered a different kind of strike. You see, we were over all the equipment of both the Palinon army and the Hylian Army. The advisor planted gun powder in all of the Palinon’s armor and weapons. On that day, the Palinon’s went into combat with the demon, but the Hylian fired arrows that were lit on fire at the Palinons. The gunpowder ignited and killed over seven thousand Palinons, along with many of the demon army. We won that battle, and it led to the end of the war…But Palis didn’t forget. As soon as the battle was over, Donovan, not only as king, but as a survivor, declared his outrage at Hyrule. Catalia tried setup negotiations with both us and the Palinons, but Donovan declared Catalia our allies. He was blinded by rage. He declared war on Hyrule and Catalia, and led one of the biggest assaults in history.
“Catalia was attacked first. The Palinons were unstoppable in these battles, and with the original Kitapos fighting, it was a massacre. Catalia’s population was halved in two days. The Palinons then used Catalia’s waterways to begin their assault on Hyrule. They came in during broad daylight, and began the assault on Hyrule’s front gate. It took only an hour before they had invaded the town and began killing soldiers.
“Now, everything branches out…The Ganondorf and the Gerudos saw this as their chance. They entered the fray, and began to kill the Hylians that the Palinons left alive. It seemed that we were facing total destruction. Dad was smuggled out of the country, and Mom was killed…and you went missing. Then, out of nowhere, the Palinons left. They just ended the attack and left, no treaties signed, no cease-fire notices, no nothing. It was rumored that the Palinon left because of the Gerudos. They wanted to settle the problem themselves, not with the help of an outside race. The remains of our army pushed the Gerudos back into the desert, and the war was over, but the Palinons didn’t feel like the seven thousand who died were avenged.
“Then, the Palinon found a way to get even. They came into a territory that we were scouting. You see, we had soldiers there, and they walked into the territory. The tries to claim it as theirs, and we tried to claim it as ours. Another war started, and the Palinons sent one forth of their army. Next thing you know, we, with our full army, was engaged in the bloodiest battle that the world had ever seen. I was five when is happened, and I remember seeing the battlefield…even to this day, I have nightmares about the cruel punishment that both sides delivered to each other. I saw more blood and bone than any living being should. My father said that the no living being should live with themselves after killing in the gruesome ways that we saw. Our full army was decimated, while the Palinons had sent in for reinforcement. It seemed that Hyrule would lose another war, but for some reason, the Palinons never attacked. The two sides stared at each other, neither making a move. It’s still like that now. That battlefield is still there, with both sides staring at each other. It’s like a reminder that we still hate each other.”
“Zelda, why did the battle stop?” Link asked.
“Well, Donovan’s wife had been assassinated, and Donovan stepped down from power to hunt the criminals who did it. The new leader, who was a young boy, about a two years older then me came into power. Him and his advisors ordered a cease-fire, and we’ve been negotiating ever since. It’s still a mystery as to why Donovan came back, though.”
“So, Donovan started a war between us and the Palinons…and that led to the Gerudo attack…which killed our mother,” Link said.
“No, we light the flame, Donovan carried the torch, and the Gerudos spread the wildfire. There was no good and evil then. It was all vengeance and hatred,” Zelda said. Link looked at the ground.
“How can anyone sacrifice others…and look at themselves in the mirror,” Link mumbled.
“Link, every race has moments like that. We all do things that we’re not proud of,” Ruto said.
“Yes, bro, we Gorons have set off many volcanic eruptions that have killed people. We live through it!” Darunia said.
“Yeah, well, your race hasn’t killed thousands of your own allies…” Link groaned. He couldn’t get the thought of the Hylians sacrificing the Palinons out of his mind.
“Link, I reacted the same way when Dad told me why the war started. I couldn’t look at our advisor for a month without getting angry,” Zelda explained.
“Wait, he’s still serving here?” Link asked, outraged.
“No, he passed away after you defeated Ganondorf,” Zelda said.
“Oh…I see,” Link said, “Zelda, I think you guys need to keep a close eye on Donovan. If he’s trying to avenge all those people…There’s not telling what could happen.”
“True, and those Kitapos could do the damage for him,” Zelda said.
“The Kitapos? Where they the shadow figures that came with Donovan?” Link asked.
“Yes. They are the Next Generation Guards, the Kitapos. They are the team that Donovan handpicked to test out his Honor. They are made of six people, and they are the best of the best. I’ve never seen their terrors, but I’ve received reports about the damage they can do. Those six can take down entire armies by themselves…and they can do it again the next day,” Zelda took a deep breath, “There’s Hadin, the Shadow-Slay. He uses his incredible sword techniques to deliver quick and decisive blows. Then there’s Jinten, the Chain Soul. I heard that he uses his chains and his claws to shred everything. He’s chained from head to toe, because he’s too dangerous to leave unattended. Next, there’s Zolick, the Zoran. He’s a man who’s fascinated by Zora’s, and he learned how to fight using this side armed blade style. Then, there’s Vexus, the Spearmaster. He wields god like spears without slow speed. He’s known for destroying towns by targeting the buildings bases with his spear. After that, there’s Alana. She’s the woman that hugged Donovan. She doesn’t fight, she’s their negotiator. She warns countries of attack by the Kitapos. She’s honorable for those warnings, but any way you look at it, she does nothing to stop the carnage that the Kitapos are known for.
“Finally, there’s Mardan Dark. He, by far is the most powerful of the Kitapos. He uses a sword style that is similar to Donovan. He’s almost lifeless; his eyes are empty. He stares at his victims as if they don’t exist. He kills without remorse, and he kills anything that is in front of him. I heard a story where he once let a person escape, only to hunt them down a year later. There, he shoved a knife in his shoulder, leaving him alive. Mardan Dark then forced his victim to watch as Mardan slowly slaughtered his family, which was his wife and three kids. Mardan then kept the man locked up, and didn’t allow the man to kill himself. When the man finally began to end his grieving…Mardan cut off his head, and sent the head to the King of Calatia, the man’s hometown. He’s ruthless, dangerous, and pure evil. I know that I would had to see the evils he could perform if his eyes ever had life in them.”
Link looked stunned as Zelda said the name Mardan. Thoughts of a young man with black hair and a sadistic style began to flood his head. He didn’t want to say it, but he had met Mardan a long time ago. He remembered his cold, murderous style. He thought that Mardan had faded away, leaving forever. He never would have figured that he would become a Kitapo.
“If the Kitapos are that good…then why doesn’t he choose one of them to be his Honor?” Link asked.
“His Honor must be of Hylian lineage. He won’t even consider attacking a Palinon,” Zelda answered.
“Whoa. This is a lot to digest. So let me get this straight, we have a long, never dying conflict between the Hylians and the Palinons, right?” Link asked. Zelda nodded.
“Then we have the psycho Kitapos who can kill a lot of people in no time at all,” Link continued. Zelda nodded again.
“Then we have their leader, wait, the Kitapos are strong, why don’t they revolt against Donovan?” Link asked.
“They are strong, but Donovan is stronger still,” Zelda replied.
“Damn, then he must be immortal,” Link said.
“No, because if he was, he would have no need for an Honor,” Zelda stated.
“Oh, you have an answer for everything,” Link said.
“Now that I’ve answered your question, I need you to do something for me,” Link did not like the way Zelda said that, “Link, I need you to try and find out what Donovan is up to. I know that there has to be some special reason that drives him to get the Second Relic.”
“Okay, if I find out something, you want me to take him down?” Link asked.
“Link, I’m sorry to say that you are no match for Donovan. He’s stronger then all the Kitapos put together. I wouldn’t send my own flesh and blood to die like that,” Zelda said, “We’ll deal with Donovan when we find out a good plan.”
“Wait a second, I have a plan!” Link said. He looked around the room, at all of the sages.
“Darunia, Ruto, Saria, expect a visit from me. I’ll be by there in the next few days,” Link said.
“Link, what are you planning to do?” Zelda asked.
“I’m going to get the Master Sword! It can defeat all evil, so with it, I will easily be able to take down all of the Kitapos and Donovan!” Link exclaimed. Impa cocked her eyebrow.
“Do you really think it’s that easy?” Impa asked.
“Well, if the sword could beat Ganondorf, I’m sure it can beat Donovan. Hey, I’ll even get the sword sharpened before I use it!” Link said.
“Hey, it’s the best idea we got!” Nabooru said. Everyone else nodded.
“Link, there’s one more thing…Do you still have the Ocarina?” Zelda asked.
“Yeah, right here,” Link reached into his pouch, (You’d be amazed at how much he can fit into it) and pulled out his glossy blue ocarina. Even when he just held it, Link could feel the flow of time.
“Link, you remember when I took the ocarina of time from you in the future. Well, since the timelines merged, I kept the ocarina, and you kept yours,” Zelda pulled another ocarina out of a conveniently placed bag. “And while you were gone, I learned how to use telepathy,” Zelda said proudly.
“So, you can communicate with your mind?” Link asked.
“Yes, and I can communicate with you whenever you hold that ocarina. Since we’re related, you can do it to. When ever you want to talk to me, just hold the Ocarina and concentrate on me,” Zelda said.
“Good. I guess we’ll be able to catch up on old times without actually talking!” Link joked.
“Link, I think you best be on your way…Oh! Wait, there’s someone I want you to meet!” Zelda said, suddenly very excited.
Zelda grabbed Link’s hand and led him up to a tower. After an endless jog up the stairs, a locked door stopped them. Zelda unlocked the door, and inside, there was a beautifully furnished room. There was a huge bed in the middle, were some blonde-haired man was sleep.
“Link, do you remember him?” Zelda asked.
“No…” Link started. Then the man’s eyes shot opened. Link stepped back, “Wait, it can’t be!” Link said.
“Yes it can! It’s Shiek!” Zelda said. Link mouthed words of astonishment, “Link, in one timeline, I merged my soul and Shiek’s soul into one and Impa got rid of his body. You see, He was badly injured, and his only chance then was for me to absorb his soul. In the timeline without Ganondorf, Shiek still had a body and a soul. We restored his body, and I put the soul that I absorbed into the body as well. Then we healed the body. He’s still recovering, and right now, he can’t talk. Soon, he’ll be able to go back to his normal life!” Zelda explained.
“Wow, hey, tell him to find me when he gets better!” Link said. Link then turned and got ready to leave. Zelda escorted him to the castle gates. They embraced, and Link turned and walked away into the market.
“So, Link, where to?” Avon asked.
“Well, I’m looking for a tavern,” Link answered.
“Link, women don’t like drunks,” Avon said.
“I’m not going for me! I’m going to find Donovan,” Link stated.
“Sure, why do you think a warrior like him would be at a tavern?” Avon asked.
“Well, he obviously wants to find his Honor, and what better to find someone who thinks they’re strong then a tavern! Every drunk in there thinks they’re a world class fighter,” Link said.
“Okay. Link, why didn’t you tell me that you know every fine woman in Hyrule!” Avon yelled.
“Hey…I never took the time to notice them,” Link said, “But now that you mention it, they all were pretty fine.”
“Yeah! And I’m sorry, but your sister is a fox,” Avon said.
“Oh shut up,” Link said, “Besides, I’m not looking at every female I see. I’m trying to find one special girl.”
“You planning to settle down?” Avon asked.
“I wouldn’t mind it. I mean, I’m young, but I really want to feel love now. Knowing my life, I might not be around tomorrow to search for it.”
“Damn, that’s another thing to add to the checklist. One: Find info on Donovan Two: if necessary, destroy Kitapos. Three: defeat Donovan. Four: Get Avon laid, err I mean, get Avon with a beautiful female, then get laid. Five: Get Link a girl that he can fall in love with. Hard to do with a snore-job like you!” Avon said.
“Well, if your such a master of the ladies, tell me, why have you been swatted down three times in the last three hours?” Link asked.
“Oh, little rusty. Give me a night’s rest, and I’ll be able to get any girl in Hyrule,” Avon bragged.
“Have you ever realized that you’re just a bouncing ball of light?” Link asked.
“Did I say that you could ask me a question?” Avon replied.
“No, did I say that I needed your permission?” Link retorted.
“Do you realize who you are talking to? I am Avon the Woman-Slayer, that I am!”
“Why did the name Kenshin just pop into my mind?” Link said curiously.
“That’s besides the point!” Avon yelled.
“Okay, old Woman-Slayer, if you’re so great, tell me who I should get with?” Link dared.
“Well…I think the best girl would be that red-head! I think her name was Malon,” Avon said after a moments thought. Link’s whole face went red.
“Damn, you’re good,” Link admitted. Link and Avon continued their conversation until they arrived at the nearest back alley tavern. When Link opened the door, he was hit by the smell of cigar smoke and old cabbage. He looked through the thick smoke, hoping to find Donovan.
“Yo Link!” Link heard a familiar voice. Link saw Dierro come from the distance. He was out of his military uniform, and now he was in a casual shirt and in black pants. He still had his spear, which looked a little out of place. Link smiled to see a familiar face.
“Dierro! How are you?” Link asked.
“I’m fine. I came up here to pass some time. They’re repairing my street, so I can’t get home right now,” Dierro explained. He wore a very cheery face.
“Yo, have you seen any Palinons here?” Link asked.
“Yeah, there was this pack of them. Their leader is talking to the bartender.” Dierro said. Link walked near the bar, where he saw him. Donovan sat with his back to him, but even with his back turned, it felt like Donovan was staring at him. Link couldn’t tell if the feeling was fear or hate, but it was intense.
“Listen, if you’re not going to buy anything, then get out of here!” The bartender yelled. Donovan remained silent. Dierro walked away and left, while Link moved out of sight. Donovan turned around just as Link disappeared behind a nearby corner.
“Hyrule is so incompetent,” Donovan said.
“Listen, we don’t like your kind anyway! That comment just got you kicked out, you blue haired freak! Your kind can go to the dumpster to get your drinks! Hell, I know that your kind is used to it!” The bartender yelled. When the bartender yelled, The Kitapos came to Donovan’s side.
“You don’t talk to Master Donovan that way!” The tallest one yelled. He had a huge decorated spear on his back. He was Vexus the Spearmaster.
“Who are you talking to like that! This is Master Donovan, you fool!” A shorter one with a skinny sword yelled. He was Hadin the Shadow-Slay, the. One member, one that was chained and had huge claws growled. He was Jinten, the Chain-Soul.
“Donovan, I think that you should let us kill them all,” The one with the blades on his forearm said. He was Zolick, the Zoran. He spoke with a really watery voice.
That comment drew the attention of the entire Tavern. Link took the time to noticed that the tavern was huge. It had seating for over a hundred people, but they still had to have people standing. Many of the cocky drunks stood up to Donovan and the Kitapos.
“Kitapos, I don’t condone meaningless bloodshed. All battles I accept are only the most necessary ones,” Donovan replied.
“You cretins are just pathetic. You can’t even go a month without killing,” Alan said, while keeping her arm around Donovan’s waist.
“You Palinons need to leave now, before we make you leave! You’re not wanted!” Link heard a drunken yell. The man who yelled was a burly man, and he had a prostitute clinging to him like how Alana was clinging to Donovan, except she was holding rubbing his side and upper leg, almost touching his unmentionables. Link couldn’t get over how ugly she was. Link kneeled to hide himself better.
“Donovan, let us slaughter these Plebeians!” Hadin said.
“Oh, quit trying to sound so intelligent. It only makes you look stupid,” Alana said. Link could tell that Alana and the rest of the Kitapos didn’t get along.
“Mardan, what do you think?” Donovan asked. The last figure finally spoke.
“Master, you know my hatred for the Hylians. I personally hate every last one of them. But still meaningless bloodshed is a last resort,” Mardan said. Mardan scanned the room, and Link caught a glimpse of his eyes. They were an empty gray, no life at all. He wore a blue and black uniform. He had a blue and black shoulder-guard, with a black cloak draped around his unguarded shoulder. He looked like a commander. The Hylian drunks sounded really ticked off by Mardan’s statement.
“You Palinons think you’re so great!”
“You can’t do anything but start trouble!”
Mardan kept his lifeless gaze.
“Donovan, I think there are a few things that need to be said. First off, I think it would be a good leader’s move to allow us to fight. Even though I’m loyal to you till the end, I don’t think my brothers are the same. My brothers are obsessed with blood. To them, killing is a fun activity. By depriving them of that, anger grows in their hearts. They could stupidly attack you out of rage. If you allow them to fight now, you won’t have to kill them later.
“Another thing is that fact that these Hylians are detestable. Killing them wouldn’t be meaningless slaughter. It would be us fulfilling out God-given right to protect our planet. By allowing these Hylian scumbags to live would be a disservice to our planet. We need to protect our world and our race from these immoral weaklings. I say that we kill them for the sake of the world,” Mardan’s last comment brought everyone in the tavern to their feet. Link had never been in a tenser situation. Every Hylian was crowding around the Kitapos, yelling and screaming. Vexus was spitting at their feet, and Hadin had drawn a line on the wooden floor with his sword and dared anyone to cross it and get killed. Link then saw Donovan whisper something into Alana’s ear.
“Everyone shut up!” Alana screamed. The room quieted, but the tension stayed, “Master Donovan has proposed a deal for the Kitapos. He, himself, will not be part of the fight, but he is allowing the rest of the Kitapos to fight. Any Hylian wishing to live needs to get out before Donovan does! If you are not out of the room by that time, then you will not be spared! This is your official Kitapo Warning!” Alana’s proposal sent shockwaves through the crowd. Donovan and Alana then began to walk towards the door. When Donovan got close, he snapped his fingers, and the chains around Jinten were released. As soon as Donovan touched the door, all of the Kitapos smiled devilishly. When Donovan’s body crossed the doorway, a huge scream echoed through the tavern.
The Hylian drunks all ambushed the Kitapos, trying to get as many cheap shots and sucker punches that they could. They had piled on the Kitapo group, seemingly pounding them to death. Then, the room was flooded with blue and black light. The bodies that were on top of the Kitapos flew in all different directions. In the center stood Mardan, glowing blue. He unsheathed his sword, and turned to the nearest Hylians. The drunks tried to attack, but Mardan attacked first. Mardan sliced his sword into one’s chest, sending his sword all the way through. He then pinned the body to the wall, and pulled the sword out.
Hadin unsheathed his skinny sword, and turned on a group of buff Hylians. He ran by them once, seemingly not touching one. As soon as his body settled, all of their bodies exploded in blood and screams. Hadin then turned and sliced his sword through the throat of a young drunk. He twisted it, and smiled as the blood splashed his face. He then removed his sword, and continued to attack more people.
Vexus swung his spear, cutting several bodies in half. Some tried to run out of the reach of his weapon, but when they did, he would make a dash to their side. When he did, he would swing his spear again and cut them in half. One strike was so close, that it splattered blood on Link’s face. Link wanted to fight right then, but it felt like his body was frozen. For the first time, he was so scared that he couldn’t move.
Zolick used stealth to kill his victims. He would hide under tables, and when anyone would stumble near him, he would use his forearm blades to cut into their necks and chests. He laughed his liquid laugh after every person he killed. He then took his blades off his forearm, and threw them into a nearby crowd of cowering Hylians. The blades acted as grotesque boomerangs, tearing through the bodies of every soldier in the pack. When the blades returned, Zolick wiped them off on the pants of a nearby corpse.
Jinten, free from his chain confinement, was now using his chains to throw around people’s necks. When the were latched around someone’s neck, he would tug the chain, beheading them. People ran from him, not knowing that he would also jump on their backs and stab their chests dozens of times with his claws. He would jump from person to person, clawing away at their chests until he could pull something out. When he pulled out a rib, Link felt a gag reflex in his stomach.
The barkeep went behind his bar and pulled out a huge scythe like weapon. He tried swinging it at Mardan, but Mardan dodged. Mardan, who looked slightly annoyed, swung at the handle of the scythe. He cut the scythes blade away from it’s handle, and then shoved his sword clear through the man’s face. The worse part was that it didn’t kill him immediately. The barkeep screamed and hollered, flailing his arms around helplessly. Link covered his ears, not wanting to hear the man scream anymore. He was about to cover his eyes, but before he did, he looked at Mardan’s face. He saw his lifeless eyes…
…and he also saw his smile.
Link closed his eyes, cursing himself. He felt totally helpless. He was supposed to be a great hero, but he was so scared that he could only watch as over a hundred people got slaughtered. The fighting lasted about seven minutes, but when it was done, over five hundred years of people’s lives had ended. The walls were stained in blood; the ceilings were the same. The ground was submerged in about a three inch deep pool of blood. Link still hid, but he saw that all was not done. All of the Kitapos had crowded around the prostitute from before. Mardan was holding his sword to her chest while she begged for her life.
“Please let me live! I’ll do anything for you!” She placed her hand on Mardan’s knees, rubbing it softly. “I can make you a happy man! Please, it’s all I have to offer you,” As she said that, her hand moved up his leg, near his unmentionables. She moved up, but when she did, Mardan cut off her forearm. She shrieked in pain, and Mardan grabbed her hair to quiet her down.
“You want to make me happy?” Mardan said, evilly.
She nodded.
“You can make me happy by dying, and burning in the hell that gave birth to you!” Mardan yelled. He then cut off her other arm, dragging out her death. She looked up at him pleading. He placed the tip of his sword in-between her eyes. Link stood, finally broken from his fear. He had more hatred in his heart then ever. He wanted to make each one of them pay, right then and there.
“Mardan!” Link yelled. Mardan turned to face Link’s gaze. When their eyes Connected, Mardan shoved his sword down, sheathing it in the prostitute’s head. He the pulled out the sword, and looked into Link’s eyes. As he stared, Link’s eyes narrowed. That action set something off. A large grin crept across Mardan’s face, and color began to return to Mardan’s eyes. He looked sadistic, and he sheathed his sword. Life had returned to Mardan’s eyes.
“Link, brother!” Mardan greeted. His face was happy, but his eyes held hatred.
“Don’t call me brother! We’re not friend, we never were!” Link spat.
“Oh, pity. As you see, I have a real family…the Kitapos!” He said. “So, how long has it been since I last saw you? Two years?” Mardan was toying with Link, getting inside Link’s head.
“Who cares…it’s not like you changed!” Link yelled.
“Yeah, you’re right. I’m still the same murderer! Face it, I like to kill!” Mardan gloated. “Well, I do believe that it’s time to leave, brothers!” Mardan said to his Kitapos. They all walked out, but Link followed.
When link got outside, he was surprised to see Dierro pointing his spear at Vexus. The rest of the Kitapos had left, leaving these two to fight. Dierro swung his spear, but as soon as he moved, Vexus moved to Dierro’s side. He hit Dierro in the ribs, sending Dierro flying into a nearby trashcan. Vexus then ran to catch up with the other Kitapos. Link ran to Dierro’s aid, and was relived to see that Vexus had spared his life. Link then pulled his ocarina out, and concentrated on Zelda.
“Link? How are you? Having trouble finding Donovan?” Zelda asked through telepathy. It was weird to hear something, but not actually hear it.
“No. I found him fine…Zelda…I found him just fine,” Link stammered. He didn’t want to think about what he saw.
“Link, what happened…”
“They’re all dead!” Link said.
“What?”
“The Kitapos…they killed everyone! No one’s alive, their all dead!” Link could feel his fear coming back.
“Where? Link, who did they kill?”
“Everyone in this tavern! Everyone inside is dead! Not one survivor!”
“You saw it all?”
“Yes! I saw it all…Those Kitapos must pay!” Link knew he was rambling, but it was the best he could do.
“Link, get to the castle and get some rest! I don’t want you to think about this…just come here and rest. Please, hurry here…” Zelda pleaded.
“Don’t worry, I have a place to stay. I just have to hope that the drawbridge is open,” Link replied.
“Link, just get there and rest. Don’t even think about Donovan and the Kitapos for a few days. Please, do that for me,” Zelda asked.
“I will. I’ll do my best…but I will get those Kitapos. I swear it,” Link said. He then put his ocarina in his pouch, ending the conversation. He kneeled to Dierro, seeing if he needed help.
“Link, I’m okay. Hey, I can even get myself home,” Dierro replied. He stood, stumbled, then regained his balance.
“Dierro, why were you fighting a Kitapo?”
“Hey, see me when my injury clears up, and I’ll tell you,” Dierro replied. He then limped away, heading off into the night sky. Link walked towards the Drawbridge, which was thankfully open. He walked all the way to the ranch, almost lifelessly. When he got to the ranch, he went to the side where the clothes wash was. He took of all his clothes and washed them, not caring that he was nude. He knew everyone was asleep. He wouldn’t care if they were awake. He didn’t want to smell like blood. He washed his clothes, and had Avon use his natural heat to dry them, a technique that Avon and Link mastered while traveling together. Link then put his clothes back on, and tried to go to sleep.
His eyes closed, but all he could see was the Tavern.
He kept his eyes open, and he could hear the cries of drunks.
He dozed off, still haunted by the visions of the dead.
He would never have peace. He knew it. He failed all those people.
What is this Feeling? by Blind Blitz
“We don’t like your kind no way!”
“Master, I say that we kill them all…”
“I don’t condone meaningless bloodshed…”
“It would be a good leader’s decision…”
“I say we do it for the good of the planet…”
“You want to make me happy?”
“You can do that by dying, and returning to the hell you came from!”
“What’s it been? Two years?
“You will be my honor!”
Link’s eyes snapped open, awoken by a flash of light. He bolted up, shaking and shivering. He was covered in sweat, and he was breathing heavily. He brought his hands to his forehead, wiping the sweat from his brow. He looked around as his eyes got adjusted to the morning light.
“Hello sleepyhead!” The voice had to have come from an angel. Link looked up, seeing the woman who made time stop for him. Malon was standing over him with a bucket of water, smiling mischievously.
“Did you pour that water on me?” Link stammered. It was hard to talk to her.
“A simple good morning would have been fine,” Malon said in mock anger. Link didn’t smile, he just stood, not realizing that all he had on were his underwear. Malon blushed when she saw his body.
“What’s wrong with you?” Link asked.
“Er…uh…” She mouthed. Link looked down, and jumped. He didn’t realized his predicament. He immediately clothed himself, and faced her again.
“You never answered my question. Did you pour water on me?” Link asked again.
“No, I was going to, but you were sweating enough already. You have a bad dream?” Malon asked. Link turned away from her, not wanting to look her in the eyes.
“You would never imagine…” Malon walked around to face Link.
“We had a room made out for you. Why didn’t you come ask us to show it to you?” Malon asked.
“I didn’t want to disturb you. I came late,” Link lied. He didn’t want her seeing his bloodstains.
“That’s nice of you. Well, let me show you the room anyway. I want to know if it’s to your liking!” Malon said with a wink. Link felt his face burn. The two walked inside of the house, and into a new room. The room was quite cozy, it was furnished with a large bed, a chair and a fireplace. There was a monument on the wall that caught Link’s attention. He walked to it, looking at the picture on top. It was a pictograph a young man in his teens, with messy brown hair. He had a cocky look in his eye.
“Malon, who’s this?” Link asked. Malon’s head fell when Link asked.
“That’s Toray, Pamela’s old boyfriend,” Malon said slowly.
“What happened, they break up?” Link asked.
“No, he died. He died about six years ago, but we never found a body,” Malon said, “We found his blood, which tipped us off. We made a monument to honor him.”
Link’s tilted his head as he laid his hand on the statue. The moment he touched the statue, he felt something. Everything around him went blurry, replaced by some kind of vision. He saw a vision of the Toray, holding a sword, looking back at Link. That vision faded into a scene of Link and Toray fighting. They both had an ecstatic look on their face, like they were truly having fun. They both were battered and bruised, but they continued to fight. Then Link saw a vision of Toray and Pamela, smiling in each others arms. After that, the visions stopped, replaced by reality. He turned to Malon, breathing heavily.
“Malon, was Toray a swordsman?” Link asked.
“Yes…but he could only use special swords. He had a hand defect,” Malon explained.
“It feels like I knew him,” Link said. He knew that Malon didn’t notice him having the visions. As Link backed away, Pamela came into the room. She looked troubled.
“Malon, did you hear?” Pamela said.
“What happened?” Malon replied.
“You know Clock Top Tavern?” Pamela asked. Malon nodded, “Well, they were carting bodies out of their. They say that over a hundred and fifty people were brutally murdered! The Chief of Security called it the worst act against a Hylian in history!” Pamela exclaimed.
“Oh dear! No one we know was killed, right?” Malon asked.
“Not that I know of. I know that they haven’t found a single survivor, and some of the bodies are too mutilated to identify,” Pamela said. Link walked out of the room, away from the conversation. He walked outside, and pulled out his ocarina. He concentrated on Zelda again.
“Zelda, you there?” Link asked.
“Yeah. Where are you?” Zelda replied.
“I’m at the ranch. I stayed here last night,” Link answered.
“Good thing you didn’t stay here. It’s been hell trying to cover this story up,” Zelda said.
“Wait, cover up? Why would you do that?” Link said, slightly frustrated.
“Link, threw are a lot of reasons. First off, the Kitapos you saw aren’t the only ones. There is another group in Palis that guard the King, Garibal. Those Kitapos are much more tame. If word got around that it was the Kitapos, the people would automatically question King Garibal’s Kitapos. That could turn out to be disastrous. Dad and me have worked hard to have peace with Palis. That could destroy that peace,” Zelda paused, “Another reason is that it could cause a strike against our castle. Donovan doesn’t want these vicious acts to go public in the first place. If we were to formally accuse him, it would give his Kitapos reason to attack castle. We don’t have enough proof to throw their name into the fray. Finally, the people who know about the Kitapos are already afraid of them! If word got around, it would cause a mass panic. I’m not ready to handle that yet. Dad could, but I don’t know how to deal with mass panic.”
“Wow, I didn’t know it was that deep. This act may have been a good tactical strike by Donovan,” Link said.
“Yeah…and we also are dealing with four additional murders. The only constant is that they were killed doing immoral things and they also were cut up into pieces,” Zelda said. Link instantly knew who it was.
“Mardan…” Link muttered.
“What? You think it was him?” Zelda asked.
“Let’s just say that the life has returned into his eyes,” Link said coldly.
“No…”
“Zelda, I think I should stop thinking about last night. If I continue to dwell on it, then Donovan has already won,” Link said, “Besides, there was something else that I wanted to ask you.”
“What is it?” Zelda asked.
“A few minutes ago, I had these really strange visions,” Link said.
“Oh! That’s a side effect of Telepathy. The first few time you use it, you get visions of the past, present, and future,” Zelda explained.
“Zelda, I had a vision about a dead man that I never met,” Link said.
“Weird… Link, bad news. They need me to make a statement about the attack. I’ll talk to you later. Love you, Bro!”
“Love you, Sis,” Link then put the ocarina back in his pouch. As he did, Malon and Pamela came out of the house to join him.
“So, Link, what are you going to do today?” Pamela asked.
“I plan to go to visit a few places. I want to get to the Zora fountain, Kokiri forest, and the Goron home on Death Mountain. I have a few errands to do there,” Link explained.
“Wow, it must be great to see the world,” Malon said dreamily.
“It’s all right. Hey, you want to come along?” Link asked.
“Wait, are you sure?” Malon said, stunned.
“Yeah. It would really help keep my mind off things, and you could see most of Hyrule,” Link said with a smirk.
“I don’t think I could. I have work to do on the ranch,” Malon reasoned.
“No, no, no! I’ll gladly let you have the day off. Go ahead and have some fun!” Pamela offered. A huge smile appeared on Malon’s face.
“Okay, I’ll go!” She said.
“Perfect. Let’s not waste any time!” Link said brightly. The two began to leave when Pamela stopped them.
“Link, tell Avon to come here,” Pamela said. Link pulled off his cap and allowed Avon to fly to Pamela.
“Hey, what’s up?” Avon asked.
“How would you like to stay here with me?” Pamela asked. Avon did about twenty mid air somersaults.
“Of course! You don’t have to ask me twice!” Avon exclaimed. Avon and Pamela waved goodbye to Malon and Link, and the duo left to go see Hyrule.
“So, Pamela…What are we going to do first,” Avon said slyly.
“Oh, nothing. I really don’t want you here anyway,” Pamela said.
“What! Why did you ask me to stay?” Avon asked indignantly.
“I wanted Malon and Link to have some alone time. It’s obvious they have a crush on each other! I didn’t want you killing the mood,” Pamela explained, “You know, my girl hasn’t even kissed a guy before! She’s been single her whole life. Malon spends so much time working, and the rest of time she spends praying for a knight in shining armor. I hope that Link can be her knight.”
“Whoa. Deep stuff,” Avon replied.
“So, Avon, tell me about Link,” Pamela said.
“Well…”
Link and Malon walked towards to forest first.
“So why can’t the Kokiri leave the forest?” Malon asked.
“Well, they use the trees to stay young. Some of the Kokiri there are hundreds of years old. If they left the forest, their bodies would catch up with their actual age, and the rapid increase would kill them,” Link explained.
“Wow, I never knew it was so dangerous,” Malon said.
“Only one person can leave the forest as the please. That’s Saria, the Sage of Forest. The time stream thing doesn’t affect her,” Link said.
“That’s so cool! I never knew that the legends about the Kokiri were true!” Malon said excitedly.
“You’d be surprised at how many legends you’re going to find out are true today,” Link cackled evilly. The two entered the forest, and were immediately welcomed by a cloud of sprites. They circled around the pair, giving them heat with their light. When the sprites had dispersed, the entrance into the Kokiri Village was opened.
Malon gasped at the simple yet beautiful village. All the houses were trees that had been cut down. For a village of kids, it was surprisingly well kept. They had streams that crossed in between houses, flower gardens placed in the play areas, and an abundance of fairies.
“You know, Avon would’ve loved this place,” Link said.
“Why do you say that?” Malon asked.
“Well, he’s always looking for a girlfriend. He could find one of his own kind here,” Link said.
“Yeah, you’re right. Pamela told me what he whispered in her ear,” Malon laughed after she said that.
“What did he say?” Link inquired.
“What he said stays with me, Pamela, and Avon,” Malon said defiantly. Link laughed at he mock tough attitude. He was surprised that he could laugh at all, after what he saw. Link didn’t know what it was, but he couldn’t be sad around Malon. It was like her presence made him deal with all his problems with a smile. As he was about to retort, He heard some one call his name. Link turned to see a familiar face, named Saria.
“Link, how are you?” Saria asked.
“Fine. Sorry about the yesterday. I couldn’t stay long before Zelda had me on this mission,” Link apologized, “Saria, I’d like you to meet my friend, Malon,” Link introduced them. Malon kneeled to get on eye level with her.
“Hi there, little girl! I’m Malon,” Malon said brightly.
“Hello, I’m Saria…can I ask you a favor?” Saria said.
“Sure, anything for Link’s friend!” Malon agreed.
“Please don’t call me a little girl. I’m older then Link,” She said. Malon rose to her feet quickly, stunned.
“Saria, no matter how old you are, I’m still bigger,” Link joked.
“So what! That’s just because you Hylian and you work out a lot!” Saria said angrily. Link took it as a complement.
“So, Saria, I’d hate to rush you, but you know what I need,” Link said. He didn’t what to say what it was in front of Malon.
“Oh yeah! I have it hidden at my secret spot,” Saria said.
“Crap! I guess we can’t go,” Link said, guiltily looking back at Malon.
“Oh, it’s okay. She can come. It’s not like she’ll be able to find it again,” Saria said with a smirk. The group walked out a northern entrance, into the Lost Woods. Link had to admit, this was his least favorite spot in the forest. Even Saria had a tough time navigating through it. The only markers they had were the pools and boulders scattered through the path. After what seemed like eternity, They found the staircase that lead to Saria’s secret spot. They walked up the stairs, and into the open meadow at the top. The meadow had a temple entrance that was high above the trees, and a huge teleport platform.
“Okay, I left it under my tree stump!” Saria said. She walked over there, when Link grabbed her by the hand. He pulled her back, suddenly feeling another premonition. In this vision, he saw a shadow figure standing on the platform, with a sword raised at the group.
“Saria, there’s someone here,” Link warned. Link scanned the area, not seeing the shadow figure. Suddenly, someone appeared on the platform, looking at the group maliciously. It was Hadin, the Shadow-Slay.
“Link, I knew that you would come here!” Hadin said.
“Who told you? Donovan?” Link asked. Hadin looked amused.
“No, I just figured it. The forest is the best place in Hyrule to hide…and I know that you want to hide from me and the Kitapos!” He declared.
“Bull. I want to hunt all of you down,” Link growled.
“How cocky…It’s a shame that you will die here…Maybe I’ll take down these women with you!” Hadin unsheathed his sword and pointed it towards the group. Link braced himself for an attack, remembering Hadin’s speed. Hadin laughed, and disappeared. Link looked around, stunned, but his confusion was met with a powerful strike to his middle back. Link fell over, feeling blood oozing out of the newly formed wound.
“Damn, he’s faster then I remember,” Link said. He knew that he was at a disadvantage. Not only was Hadin faster, but Link didn’t have a sword to use. Hadin appeared again on the platform, holding his bloody blade proudly.
“Link, have you realized that this is where you fall?” Hadin gloated. Hadin ran forward, wanting to finish Link off. Link closed his eyes, hoping that the attack wouldn’t hurt. Link’s eyes remained closed for moment, but noting happened. When Link opened his eyes, Hadin was sprawled out on the grass, like he was struck down.
“What happened?” Link asked. Hadin rose, with a cut on his forehead. He looked around furiously.
“Who dares interfere with my battle?” He demanded. Suddenly, a blue-purple figure came out of the trees and struck Hadin again. Hadin flew backwards, into a tree.
“It was me, the last male Shiekah!” Yelled the figure. Link realized that it was Shiek who was delivering the beating. Shiek looked different. His eyes were green now, and his hair was shorter. He also didn’t hide his face. Then again, this time, he wasn’t combined with Zelda.
“Hmm, I’m surprised that a creature like you would fight along side Hylians,” Hadin said. Hadin stood again, rubbing his chin.
“I will protect the royal family until my death, and past that if necessary!” Shiek declared. Link stared in awe.
“Don’t worry, I’ll grant you your death…and we’ll see if you can still protect him then!” Hadin yelled. He then ran into the woods, retreating. Shiek turned to Link, and pulled out a sealed bottle of red potion. He handed the potion to Link, and Link wasted no time in drinking it. Instantly, the scar on his back faded, after a moment it was completely gone. Malon and Saria both hugged Link in relief. After the hug, Saria ran off to get the gem and Shiek, Malon, and Link began to talk.
“So, Link…how have things been for you?” Shiek asked.
“Lack-luster…ever since yesterday night. You know the story,” Link said, trying to keep from hinting too much.
“Yeah, Zelda’s become a real stress case. She’s on edge like never before,” Shiek said, “Also, we got tipped off yesterday. In one of the murders,, after that big massacre, we found a note written in blood. It said that there was a seventh Kitapo residing in Hyrule…” Shiek said.
“Wait, a seventh one? Donovan only has six!” Link said.
“I know, and from what Zelda says about Donovan, it’s hard to believe that he would use trickery like that,” Shiek speculated.
“This is weird…well, it doesn’t matter. Brother, after today, I’ll have all the keys to retrieve my sword, then I’ll get all of the Kitapos!” Link gloated.
“Hopefully that works,” Shiek said. Link sighed but hid his worry when Saria returned, with a huge glowing green emerald in her hand.
“Link, I present to you, the Kokiri Emerald!” She said triumphantly. Link held it gratefully, smiling at Saria.
“So, Link, we’re are you going next?” Shiek asked.
“Malon and me are going to see Darunia in Death Mountain. Then we’ll go to the Zora fountain…Curse!” Link yelled suddenly. “I just remembered my engagement to Ruto! Curse, Curse, Curse!” Link yelled. He knew that if he asked for the Zora Sapphire again, Ruto would force him to marry her.
“Link? You’re engaged?” Malon asked.
“Er… um…Curses…Malon, I’m not really engaged, it’s just that the Zora Sapphire is an engagement present for Zoras… If I ask for, it’s like asking Ruto to marry me,” Link said ruefully.
“Malon, don’t worry. Link is still single,” Saria said. Malon face burned brightly.
“Why did you have to say it like that?” Link asked. Link then turned to Malon and smiled, “So, you ready to go?” Link asked.
“Sure, you said I would see more legends! I’ve seen two, I want to see more!” Malon jumped in excitement.
“Well, Saria, I’ll see you later, and Shiek, will you be coming with us?” Link asked.
“I want to, but I think I have to go back to Zelda. Curse the Kitapos, you never know when they’re going to strike…speaking of Kitapos, let me speak to you in private,” Shiek said. Link and Shiek walked away from Saria and Malon, who were looking puzzled.
“So, what’s wrong?” Link asked.
“Link, I want you to know something. An hour before I got here, there was another murder. The man was cheating on his wife. He died by a stab wound to his heart…and the woman he was cheating with got it five times worse. Her head was resting in the man’s lap,” Shiek described.
“That’s awkward,” Link said.
“Yeah…and they found the rest of her body two blocks away,” Shiek said. Link’s eyes widened when he heard that.
“Well, what’s new? Zelda told me that these murders are becoming common,” Link said, almost heartlessly.
“Yeah, well, this body came with a unique message. Your name was written on the wall, along with a challenge. It said ‘I am waiting in a place colder then your heart,’” Shiek said.
“Mardan…” Link growled, “This is his doing…I think I helped create a monster,” Link admitted.
“You know him?” Shiek asked.
“Yes…we have a history. I humiliated him before he became a Kitapo, and now he wants revenge,” Link said.
“How did you humiliate him?” Shiek asked.
“That’s a story for another day. I’ll tell you some other time,” Link replied.
“Well, whatever happened, Mardan needs to be stopped. He can’t be allowed to continue killing people,” Shiek declared.
“I know…it’s just, I don’t have the nerve to fight him yet…” Link said, “If you would have seen his face, his sadistic smile, you wouldn’t be able to face him either.”
“I know that your afraid right now. Curse it, I’m afraid of those Kitapos myself…but you are the one who needs to stand up against them. If you can cast away that fear, then you’ll be able to defeat them.” Shiek then patted Link on his shoulder, like how a brother would. Link looked down, thinking about what Shiek said.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Link said. He looked up, but Shiek was gone. Malon and Saria both walked to Link’s side, and stared at him.
“Link, what’s bothering you?” Saria asked.
“Nothing…I just need to do a little soul searching,” Link said, “Malon, let’s go,” Link said. The two left the valley, and traveled into the forest.
“Okay, so that’s the type of person he is?” Pamela said.
“Yes…but there’s something holding him back from being happy. Whatever happened to him outside of Hyrule really damaged his heart,” Avon said.
“Hmm, I wonder what it could be,” Pamela thought out loud.
“Whatever it is, it has to do with Mardan Dark, one of the Kitapos,” Avon replied.
“Wait, he’s already had business with a Kitapo?” Pamela asked.
“I don’t know. I just know that him and Mardan are connected, and now they’re going to fight,” Avon speculated.
“So Link’s preparing to go head on against a Kitapo?” Pamela asked.
“No. I know that he would avoid fighting Mardan at all costs…but he has to beat Mardan to get to Donovan. That’s what the Kitapos are really around for,” Avon said.
“What do you mean?” Pamela inquired.
“Don’t tell Link that I know this…but only Donovan’s Honor can kill him. To become an Honor, you must prove yourself to Donovan, a feat that is only possible in two ways. Impressing Donovan, or defeating all of the Kitapos,” Avon said.
“Wow…you’re smart for a fairy,” Pamela commented.
“No, because if I was, I would stop Link from getting himself killed,” Avon said.
“Now what do you know about the Kitapos?” Pamela asked.
“I know the strengths and weaknesses for all seven,” Avon said.
“Wait, you said earlier that there were only six!” Pamela exclaimed.
“No, there is a seventh in Hyrule,” Avon said, “And Link has met the seventh…”
“Who is it?” Pamela asked in awe.
“The seventh is…”
What Does Triumph Mean? by Blind Blitz
An amused smile crossed Pamela’s face.
“I never would have expected that…” She said.
“Yeah, Link doesn’t either. Now, I don’t know their intentions, but the seventh Kitapo should be considered dangerous,” Avon stated.
“No matter,” Pamela said dismissively. She stood up from her spot and began to walk to the entrance of the ranch.
“What are you doing?” Avon asked.
“I’m going to have a little talk with the seventh Kitapo. I think they’ll be…surprised to see me,” She said.
“What do you think you’re doing? They could kill you!” Avon yelled.
“I know, but I doubt they will. They probably know that killing me will anger Link, then Link will definitely come after them. If they are trying to stay covert, then that would be my best bargaining chip,” She said. Avon couldn’t help but think that there was more to Pamela then what she let on.
“Pamela, I won’t be able to stop you, will I?” Avon said, almost jokingly.
“Nope. Well, have fun. Maybe you can go find Link and Malon,” She said.
“I will. I’ll go wait for Link at the Zora Fountain,” Avon said. He then flew into the sky as Pamela began to walk into the distance.
“So Gorons are living boulders?” Malon asked.
“Just about. They’re confusing creatures…and a little too affectionate. If they try and hug you…don’t think. Run,” Link said, laughing afterwards. In the back of his mind, though, he wasn’t joking about running away.
The pair entered Karkariko Village, the largest village in Hyrule. The village was beautiful to look at, with its quaint houses and it’s enormous windmill. It was a fresh relief from the bustling city of the market. People were much more relaxed, they would stay inside, or chat peacefully in the shade. Children ran around the wide open common grounds, playing games like tag and hide-and-go-seek. There were several shops and game stores, as well as the Hyrule cemetery.
Link led Malon into a store, one full of casual clothing and work clothing.
“Link, why did we come in here?” She asked.
“Well, first off, I need some armor if we’re going to walk up this mountain…that way you can walk behind me and I can keep you from getting hit with rocks and Gorons,” Link said, “Also, after here, we’ll be doing some swimming. It would be a good idea to get us some swimwear and a waterproof bag for our clothes.”
“Okay! We’ll I’ll be over by the swimwear rack…and don’t get any ideas about going over there with me,” Malon said with a wink. Link blushed and laughed.
Malon walked to the swimwear area , while Link scanned the armor. He saw a emerald armor chest plate and shoulder guard that fit him perfectly.
“Does that fit your tastes?” An attendant asked.
“Yes…you wouldn’t happen to have any sword sheathes that would match this, right?” Link asked.
“Yes, we have one that was made to fit most swords. It’s not very popular, so if you want it, you can have it for free,” the attendant answered. Link nodded in gratitude. Link then strolled to the men’s swimwear and picked out a pair of green trunks. He took that to the attendant, and waited for Malon to show up with her items. Malon came around after what felt like an eternity of waiting. She gave the attendant a small bag, and waited for the attendant to come up with an official price.
“That will be…265 rupees,” The attendant said. Link could tell that the price was higher, but the attendant was giving him a discount because of him being the Hero of Time. Link handed the attendant an orange rupee.
“Please keep the change,” Link said as Malon and him left.
“Link, are we going to carry this stuff all the way up the mountain?” Malon asked.
“No…you see, this pouch is enchanted…I think. See, I can put all our bags into it!” Link put their swimwear all in the pouch, then he slipped the armor on over his tunic. Link had to admit the armor was impressive. Malon blushed as she stared at Link.
“What’s wrong?” Link asked.
“Nothing,” Malon said. Link smiled,. Then he noticed something. There were a group of girls and guys, looking at Link and Malon, almost enviously.
“Malon, I think people think we’re a couple,” Link said, amused. Malon looked at the group, then turned to Link and smiled.
“Why don’t we let them think that?” She asked. Link was about to answer, but Malon grabbed his hand. She slowly pulled his gauntlet off, and crossed her finger with his. Link could almost feel the steam coming from his ears. She looked up at him, and smiled cutely. Link smiled back, and the two walked up the stair towards Death Mountain.
The two scaled the mountain, lucky that there was relatively no debris coming from the mountain, and that there was an absence of Gorons. They enjoyed a relatively calm walk, seeing many good views of Hyrule along the way. Soon, they saw a decorated cave entrance, one with a bomb flower design and tribal carvings.
“Malon, welcome to the Goron home!” Link said. They walked into the cave to enter the huge Goron town. It was entirely made from rock, and was made of several floors, all connecting to the central common grounds. In the central common grounds, several Gorons were all crowded around each other. There was one that was much larger then the rest, and he held some rock like trophy above his head. It looked like he had just won a tournament. Link led Malon down the maze like corridors that led to the lowest floor. When Link and Malon reached the bottom, they were welcomed by all of the Gorons. Link sped up, almost dragging Malon as some of them tried to give hugs to Link and Malon. They ran into Darunia’s chambers, sighing a breath of relief when Gorons stopped chasing them.
“True Brother Link!” Link heard a thunderous voice exclaim. It was Darunia, the leader of the Gorons. Link smiled at his True Brother.
“How’s life been treating you?” Link asked.
“Better them most! The Gorons have been living great for the past few years!” Darunia said, excitedly.
“Good to hear. It’s a shame that our first reunion was such a sour one!” Link said.
“Yes…I bet that’s why you’re here,” Darunia said.
“You’re right,” Link replied.
“You want the Goron Ruby?” Darunia asked.
“Yes, as you know, I’m trying to recover my sword,” Link said.
“I see…Well, do you understand the circumstances of fighting Donovan?” Darunia asked.
“What do you mean?” Link replied by asking another question.
“Have you ever heard of Aura Force?” Darunia asked.
“I’m familiar with it,” Link replied.
“I don’t know what it is!” Malon piped.
“I didn’t expect so,” Darunia said, “Aura force is a style of combat where fighters call upon the powers, or voices, of living beings. They manipulate the voices into energy, and center them around their body. Usually, their body will glow, or an aura will form around them.”
“Malon, it’s like this,” Link said. He closed his eyes, and tried to center in on life itself. He could feel the flow of time itself in this state. He could hear the thousands of voices in his mind, some deep, and some wispy. Link could feel the voices getting closer and closer, louder and louder. I can hear them…Link’s mind said. Suddenly, all of the voices stopped, and Link felt power surge through his veins. He opened his eyes, and his view was clouded by green light. Malon held her hand over mouth in amazement.
“As you see, Link’s aura is well developed. Now, Link’s speed and power has increased,” Darunia said. Link began to punch at air, to show his speed, “And Link can now pull of SuperHylian acts. Like now, he could take a mortal injury and survive long enough to get healed. Or, he can, if he had his blade, he could cause immense physical damage to opponents. His strength right now is more then the power of a cannon.”
“But it comes at a price. I can’t maintain this aura for a long time without getting tired, and if I use this in a fight and I lose my endurance, then I’ll faint. It’s a great technique with a major drawback,” Link said. He was already starting to pant.
“Yes, that’s about it,” Darunia said, “Link, I told you there was a circumstance to fighting Donovan. Brother, not only is his aura great in size and radiance…but he can keep his aura up for days if need be, and he’ll never get tired. He’s perfected the style over his lifetime.” Link sighed when he heard that, and dispersed his aura, feeling faint.
“Well, looks like I’ll have to get stronger somehow,” Link said.
“Link, are you all right?” Malon asked. She placed her head on his forehead, wiping sweat away for him.
“I’m okay…I need to be able to take this anyway. If Donovan’s as strong as everyone says, then I’ll have to be able to take that pain,” Link said. Malon bowed her head.
“Link, why do you have to fight him? What did he do?” Malon asked.
“He killed a lot of people…and he plans to do more,” Link said, “I have to stop him before he gets what he needs to do it.”
“At what cost?” Darunia asked.
Link paused, “I don’t know.”
“Link, do you plan to fight to the death?” Darunia asked.
Once again, Link paused, “I really don’t know.”
“Hmm, interesting. You weren’t like this before, brother. When you went against Ganon, you had no fear, no hesitation…”
“I also had nothing to lose…except for an entire race,” Link said.
“Well, we’re in that same situation. Zelda told you, this could escalate into the biggest war in history, if the public got word of the truth. The fate of Hyrule’s peace is in our hands. Are you going to let that scare you?”: Darunia asked.
“No, that’s not why I’m hesitant…I’ve just never met people who I think can beat me. Darunia, you never saw what I saw. You weren’t there. They kill so easily,” Link said.
“Link, you were at the tavern that got attacked, weren’t you?” Malon asked. The question threw Link aback.
“Well, err…Curses,” Link said. He hadn’t planned on telling Malon, “Yes. I saw who did that act against all those people…and I didn’t lift a finger to save them,” Link admitted.
“Link, were you afraid to tell me?” Malon asked.
“Well, yes! I mean, how can anyone react to hearing that!” Link said.
“Link, I don’t care that you were there…because you survived! That’s all that matters to me right now! Link, I feel sorry that all those people died, but I would have felt worse if you would’ve died…” Malon said. Link’s eyes widened when she said that.
“Link, maybe now you’ve found something to erase your fears…” Darunia said smugly. Link looked at Malon in disbelief.
“Don’t worry, Malon. I don’t plan to die anytime soon…” Link said.
“So, you don’t plan to carry out your mission?” Darunia asked.
“Oh, I’m going to finish it…I’m just not going to die in the process!” Link said, “Speaking of finishing the mission, I need the Goron Ruby from you.”
“I knew you would ask for it, Brother! I have a condition I want you to meet first, though,” Darunia said with a large grin.
“Curses…What do I need to do? Get you some boulders?” Link asked.
“No, we have enough. You see, we just had a boxing tournament down here, kind of a passing time ritual we have. Our champion, Rox, is a little too cocky, and he needs to be shut up before everyone hates him,” Darunia explained.
“You want me to teach him some modesty?” Link asked.
“Of course, and I’ll help you. If you can, bring out your aura,” Darunia instructed. Link brought out his emerald aura again, and waited for his next instruction, “Now, try and concentrate that energy on your hands,” Darunia said. Link concentrated on his fists, and they began to rise by themselves. The aura around his hands began to grow uncontrollable. “Now, tame the aura quickly!” Darunia said. Link clenched his fists, and grunted as he tried to control the aura. With a flash of light, the aura around his hands disappeared, and was replaced by two green gauntlets, both had armor on the knuckle parts.
“Whoa, what’s this?” Link asked.
“They’re a Goron secret. They’re gauntlets that are perfect for fist fighting. They have padding on the inside that cushions your hand from injury, and the plating helps them deliver a powerful blow, and it usually cuts your foe,” Darunia said. Link swung his fists around, getting comfortable with the gloves.
“They’re really light…but I can tell that these things pack a punch,” Link analyzed. Link looked at Malon, only to see her blushing. “I wonder what’s bothering her?” Link thought.
“Okay, Link, I’m going to tell Rox that you’re willing to challenge him,” Darunia said. Link waited for a few minutes, and then walked outside, to see his opponent.
“Curses,” Link thought. Rox was much bigger up close. He looked like Death Mountain, instead of on of Death Mountain’s boulders. He was a much darker then the rest, and he had a much meaner face then the kind looking Gorons. He swung his fists wildly, trying to intimidate Link. Link gulped, hoping that Rox wouldn’t land a head shot on him. Link walked up to Rox and raised his fists.
“Go Link!” Malon yelled repeatedly. Rox looked at her like he was going to pummel her, but soon several other Gorons began to join in the chant.
“I see that big boy over here doesn’t like to be the antagonist,” Link gloated. Rox yelled wildly, and brought both fists down on Link. Link rolled to the side, avoiding to e strike, and when Link saw the confusion on Rox’s face, Link dashed forward to strike Rox’s head. Rox blocked the strike, sending Link spiraling to the ground. Rox took the opportunity to pick Link up by his leg, showing his strength.
Link dangled in the air, trying to think of a way of getting out. Suddenly, Link began to wave his body back and forth, like a pendulum. When he picked up enough momentum, he swung himself around Rox’s arm, breaking his grip. Rox stepped back, grabbing his arm, when Link dashed forward and connected a punch to Rox’s face. Rox fell to the ground, almost lifelessly.
“Hmm, the Call to Arm! Never fails!” Link exclaimed. Link began to laugh, but his joy was cut short when Rox stood up from his shock. He dusted himself off, and laughed at Link’s attempt to beat him. Link placed his hand on his forehead and sighed, annoyed.
“Hmm, Call to Arm failed…miserably…” Link said slowly. Rox didn’t wait for Link to stop talking before he tried to punch Link. Link dodged the blow, and put his hand on his chin, stroking it. Rox began to thrash wildly as Link dodged every blow, and Link continued to think after every dodge. Darunia, on the sidelines next to Malon, grinned again.
“What’s so funny?” Malon asked.
“Link…he’s getting under Rox’s skin, and Rox is to stupid to understand that,” Darunia said, “You have to admit, Link is truly talented at what he does…”
“Will that be enough to beat that guy?” Malon asked.
“Well, no. Link needs something more to beat Donovan. He needs to do a little more soul searching before he’ll even be able to scratch Donovan…” Darunia said grimly, “But still, that’s not going to stop Link from winning this bout…Watch, Link is tired of playing around.” Darunia, of course was right. Link’s eyes had finally narrowed, and Rox had his shoulders slumped, clearly tired.
“Now, Rox, let’s try the Call to Arm again!” Link yelled. He ran forward, raising his fists. Rox tried to swat Link down, but Link dodged by ducking at the last minute. Rox’s lost sight of Link, and he began to scan the area for Link.
“Right over here!” Link yelled. Link was standing right under Rox, using Rox’s size as cover. Link leapt up, with his fist raised. He struck Rox’s chin with a force that normally would have broke Link’s hand. Rox was launched backwards into a wall, when he landed, he was clearly knocked out for good. Link raised his hand in triumph.
“The winner, Link!” Darunia exclaimed. The entire Goron home erupted in cheers. Link’s cheeks turned red as all of the Gorons jumped in celebration. Darunia walked up to Link.
“So, I guess that the people didn’t like Rox too much,” Link said.
“No, Rox was always a bully. Well, I guess I should present you with a trophy!” Darunia said.
“No thank you. That match was a fluke. You see, Rox had to survive a tournament, and I only had to endure one match. It wouldn’t be fair. I’ll be back one day to fight in the real tournament!” Link said.
“Before we do that, I have to give you something. Darunia pulled a glowing red ruby out of a side pouch he wore. He handed it to a surprised Link.
“Thank you! Wow, I almost forgot about the Goron Ruby!” Link said. Darunia nodded, and walked back to his celebrating Gorons. Malon crept to Link’s side.
“So, are you going to celebrate with them?” Malon asked.
“No, I think it’s better that we leave. We need to hurry if we’re going to see our last place. At the Zora fountain, we have to swim. If we get there too late, then we’ll get sick,” Link explained, “Besides…if the Gorons get too rowdy, they might try and hug us, and that’s worse then any damage Ganondorf or Donovan could ever do…” Link said ruefully.
“Okay, well, lead the way, Oh Great Knight!” Malon said jokingly. Link grabbed her hand, and smiled.
“Sure, Mi lady!” Link said. Link and Malon descended the mountain, hand in hand. Of course, Many in Karkariko had a lot to say.
And of course, Link and Malon didn’t hear it, or they didn’t care.
“Here it is…” Pamela said. She stood in front of an average sized house. It didn’t stick out or anything. She walked up to the door, which was, not surprisingly, missing a welcome mat. Pamela knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. After a few moments, the door opened abruptly.
“Hello there, my I help you?” The person in the house asked.
“Yes…I’m looking for someone. Their…very well connected,” Pamela said.
“I’m sorry, but I have no clue what you’re talking about,” The person said with a smile.
“Hmm, I see…well, maybe I should ask a more specific question,” Pamela said.
“Like what?” The person replied.
“Okay then. If I said that I’m looking for a Palinon, would that clarify things?” Pamela asked.
“Er…I think you need to go,” The person said.
“Or maybe, if I asked for a Kitapo, that would really ring a bell,” Pamela taunted. The person clapped his hand over her mouth, surprising.
“Listen, you know that you’re in over your head now, right. If you go home, your safety can be assured,” The person said.
“I could…but you’re playing a game with my friend’s love interest. I can’t allow that. Besides, I think there’s more to your story, and I’m interested,” Pamela said. The person sighed.
“Ahh, come on in…it’s not safe outside right now,” The Person said. Pamela walked inside the house, with a smirk on her face.
What are the Boundries of Her Heart? by Blind Blitz
ink and Malon ventured through the valley that led to the entrance to the Zora Domain. Malon was aggravated because of the several cliffs they had to scale to get to the platform for the Zora entrance. When they finally reached the platform, Link stopped, and looked through the roaring waterfall.
“Okay, when we go through here, we’ll be in the Zora Domain. I think now would be a good time to change into our swimsuits,” Link said.
“Sure, just let me get the outfit and I’ll meet you in a few minutes,” Malon said. Link pulled out the bag with the clothes. He handed Malon her outfit.
“Where are you going?” Link asked.
“I’m going to change!” Malon said. She then scurried away. Link just found a nearby nook and began to change. When he was through, he began to wait on the balcony for Malon.
Twenty minutes, and what seemed like eternity for Link, later, Malon returned, this time in her swimwear. Link could only stare in disbelief. He knew that Malon was beautiful, but this was the first time he noticed that she had an amazing figure. He looked at the waterfall again to hide his embarrassment. He reached into his items pouch and pulled out his ocarina. He played Zelda’s Lullaby, the Royal Family’s password song. The waterfall slowly split, to reveal the entrance to Zora Domain. Link and Malon jumped into the entrance, and they traversed the stone pathway that lead to the main hall of the domain.
Once inside, Malon gasped at the beautiful Zora Domain. Inside, there was a huge grotto, with several stone platforms. Torches gave a humble light to all corners of the domain, and the reflection of the water’s surface illuminated the ceiling. There was a huge waterfall with athletic Zora’s jumping from it, and at the bottom, sever Zora sat comfortably on the water’s surface.
“This is where all the Zoras live?” Malon asked.
“Yeah, great isn’t it?” Link said. He turned to look at Malon, but when he did, she quickly turned her head. Link gave a puzzled look, an then shrugged. Malon and Link found the ladder that led to the water’s surface. The two descended the ladder, and immediately jumped into the water. They swam in the clear water, laughing and joking the entire time. A few Zora joined in there play when they played :Marco Polo.” When the Zora wanted Malon to win, the would swim under her, and carry her on their backs to hide from Link. Everything was going perfectly until Link heard a familiar voice.
“Linky honey!” Link head the voice yell. Link groaned and tried to hide by submerging in the water. He then felt a hand pull him back up to the surface. Link looked defeated as the person dragged him through the water to a stone platform. When on the platform, Link turned his head to look his kidnapper in the eye. It was Ruto, the Princess of the Zoras. Ruto looked at Link and smiled, while Link tried to look away.
“Link, you know that you need to stop playing around! You need to step up to the alter!” Ruto said. Link sighed as Malon swam over to him.
“Oh…so she’s your fiancée,” Malon said.
“No! She’s just Ruto!” Link said. He was happy to see Ruto, but he wished that she would drop the Zora engagement thing.
“Oh, so I’m just Ruto? Okay, I guess you forgot that wonderful night back in the Water Temple!” Ruto exclaimed. Malon gasped in shock.
“What! Nothing happened there!” Link exclaimed. Malon looked at Link, seemingly appalled.
“Oh yeah…well, you wanted something to happen, the way you stared at me! Then you risked your life to save me!” Ruto accused.
“Ruto, I stared in shock because you looked different! And I fought to save you because you’re my friend! Want me to spell it out for you? F-R-I-E-N-D!” Link said.
“…Link, don’t worry. I believe you,” Malon said, with a smile. Ruto merely sulked.
“It seems that my liege has been, how do you say, shut down!” A tall Zora said. He was covered in deep blue markings, and he had Zora arm blades. His eyes were unnaturally fierce, as was his physique.
“Oh, Link, this is my friend, Kamura. He’s a guy who came from another country to aid us from attacks,” Ruto said.
“Lady Ruto, tell me, where should I patrol now?” Kamura asked.
“If you want, you can scan the fountain. You know how things are up there now. Someone always tried to break in when Jabbu-Jabbu is gone,” Ruto said, “Link, why don’t you go with Kamura…I want to talk to Malon alone.”
“You’re not going to kill her, are you?” Link asked.
“Oh don’t worry, I just want to get to know her. Besides, you and Kamura look like birds of a feather. You two would find some fun out there,” Ruto said. Link sighed, and reached in his inventory. He pulled out the clothes bag and gave it to Malon.
“By the time the Zora King moves out of our way…it’ll be time to leave. We might want to change before it gets cold,” Link warned. Then him and Kamura walked towards the fountain.
“Well, Miss Ruto, how long have you known Link?” Malon asked.
“About as long as you. He once came here and saved my life from our guardian…” Ruto said.
“You know, sometimes it’s easy to forget that Link is the Hero of Time. You never feel like a lesser person around him,” Malon said.
“It’s much more apparent to you…He does everything in his power to show you only his good side,” Ruto said.
“How do you figure that?” Malon asked.
“Well, it’s obvious. Malon, how often does a great hero take just any girl around all of Hyrule…especially in a time of turmoil?” Ruto asked.
“Well, Link knew that I had never seen anywhere but the ranch and the market,” Malon answered.
“And he also took you out, intending to protect you, with out a weapon,” Ruto said.
“I hadn’t even thought of that…” Malon said.
“It looks like Link just wanted to keep you near him…for more then just the obvious reason,” Ruto said.
“What’s the obvious reason?” Malon asked.
“The obvious reason was that he was afraid that you would be killed by that crazed lunatic who’s been killing off the people in the market…” Ruto said.
“That’s not to obvious to me,” Malon said.
“It’s morally obvious to most people…or to the hopeful girls around the country,” Ruto said.
“What are you talking about now?” Malon asked.
“The real reason is that Link has a crush on you…and this was his idea of a date,” Ruto said. Malon’s face went as red as her hair.
“Um…Link wouldn’t have time for things like that,” Malon countered.
“Oh, he made time. If he took the route he took today, he would have been done in two hours. He spent the entire day with you. And it seemed to me that he couldn’t keep his eyes off of you,” Ruto said.
“Well, we were joking around,” Malon said.
“Girl, eyes don’t lie! He has it for you, and you like him!” Ruto said. Malon turned her head from Ruto.
“I admit that I like him…it’s just hard to believe that Link would choose me,” Malon admitted.
“I know what it is…you’re a strong girl. And you beautiful to boot,” Ruto said, “Although, I must say, Link is too…”
“You’re right…I couldn’t look at him shen he put on his armor. He looked like the knight I always dreamed about…” Malon said.
“Hmm, I see. You know, you and him are perfect for each other…It’s odd. It’s like you two have met your other halves,” Ruto said.
As Ruto and Malon finished up their conversation, Link and Kamura had just passed the Zora king.
“I will never understand why it takes him so long to scoot over…” Link groaned. In the time it took the King to move, Link had found a discreet place to change, and he was back in his tunic and armor.
“I’ll never understand how he let himself get so fat…” Kamura sighed.
The two walked into the wide fountain, and began to scan the area.
“So, Kamura, where are you from?” Link asked, while patrolling.
“I’m from the Zora’s native land, Zarack. It far south of here,” He answered.
“So, what brought you here?” Link asked.
“I came by wish of the Hylian King. He asked me to keep an eye out for Palinon activity,” Kamura said.
“So, even he is afraid?” Link asked.
“No…it he was afraid, he wouldn’t be having peace talks with Palis’s current King, Garibal,” Kamura said with a smirk.
“Huh? I thought the two races hated each other,” Link said.
“They did, but the kings are trying to change that,” Kamura said, “But, people like the Kitapos will do anything to keep that hatred brewing. They’re out of a job if their hatred ever fades,” Kamura said.
“Wait, you know about the Kitapos?” Link asked.
“Sure. I know that they’re responsible for the tavern massacre. Their the only ones that twisted,” Kamura said.
“So we’re twisted?” Said a voice from the fountain. Link and Kamura immediately scanned looking for the person who said that. All of a sudden, something whizzed by Link’s face. Link’s eyes followed the speeding object to the fountain, where someone stood on the water’s surface. The object connected with the person’s arm, and hung like a blade. The person raised his head to meet Link and Kamura’s glared. It was Zolick the Zoran.
“We’re twisted? We’re nothing of the sort…” Zolick said in his watery voice.
“Oh? Killing hundreds of people isn’t twisted?” Link spat.
“No…if you’re doing it for the right cause. Me and the Kitapos were trying to eradicate scum…and we did just that…” Zolick said.
“You’re sick,” Kamura growled.
“Not sick…just correct. You Hylians don’t deserve to live anymore,” Zolick said.
“You can’t talk about races…you abandoned your own appearance to look like a Zora,” Link yelled.
“You are correct…I adopted the look and style of a Zora. I think that creatures as fascinating as them should spread their knowledge of battle and water arts to everyone…so I became one to do so,” Zolick said.
“You’re disgusting. I think I, a Zora, should finish you off,” Kamura said. Kamura walked across the water’s surface to reach Zolick. When they were face to face, Zolick began to grin.
“You Zora’s really are unintelligent. You would waltz into battle with a superior being who know all of your moves?”
“You don’t know any of my moves! You’re just bluffing!” Kamura said confidently.
“Really?” With that, Zolick descended into the water, under Kamura. Kamura descended after him, swimming at his fasted speed. Kamura smirked as Zolick began to stream up to the surface, more then likely out of air. As soon as Kamura was directly behind him, though, Both of Zolick’s arm blades came crashing down towards Kamura. Kamura stopped swimming to avoid the strike, but when he looked for Zolick, He was struck from behind. The strike sent him launching upwards, out of the water and into the air. Kamura gasped as he came crashing back into the water. Link winced when he saw the splash that was left behind. Kamura regained his composure under water, but when he finally saw Zolick again, another one of Zolick’s arm blades struck Kamura in his side. Kamura grabbed his side in pain, and Zolick took the opportunity to attack Kumara again. He grabbed Kumara by the neck, and dragged him to the surface. There, he threw Kamura into a boulder that rested on the water’s edge. Kumara crashed into the rock, and fell almost lifelessly on the shore. Zolick began to walk towards his victim, ready for the kill. As soon as Zolick stepped foot on the shore, he was struck in the face by Link. Link grabbed Zolick before the Kitapo had a chance to escape back into the water. Zolick tried to attack Link, but he was unable to strike Link.
“You want to kill people? Well, you can have a taste of the Call to Arms!” Link yelled. When Zolick missed another punch, Link stuck Zolick in his cheek, sending him careening into the fountain. Link panted, watching to see if Zolick would rise up again. When it was apparent that Zolick wasn’t coming back up, Link ran to Kamura’s side.
“Kamura, you all right?” Link asked.
“Yeah, I’m just a little phased. I wasn’t expecting any of those moves…he’s almost unbeatable underwater…” Kamura said. He slowly stood up, using Link as a crutch.
“I’m not done yet!” Zolick yelled. He rose back to the surface, holding his cheek. You could tell that he was bruised. He rushed to the surface, his speed catching both Kamura and Link off guard. He attacked Link first. Link threw a punch at Zolick’s face, but Zolick caught it, and kicked Link in his abdomen. When Link doubled over, he dropped his foot on Link’s back, dropping Link to the ground. Kamura tried to assist Link, but when he tried to grab Zolick, Zolick flipped behind him, and elbowed him in the back of the head. Both Link and Kamura laid lifelessly on the ground. Zolick looked down on both of them and smirked.
“You fools, I’m a Kitapo. I know every way to fight that there is…I can fight as well underwater as I can above. You two are my victims,” Zolick gloated.
“No…We can’t be stopped,” Link groaned. Both he and Kamura began to move again. Zolick’s face contorted into a frown, and he turned his back to them.
“You know, you two are annoying. Link, you might as well end your foolish quest to get the Master Sword,” When Zolick said that, Link’s eyes widened in shock, “You’ll never defeat Donovan…You can’t even defeat me!” Zolick then threw a Deku nut, and after the flash cleared, he was gone.
“Unbelievable…” Kamura said, “Who would have though that the phony would be that strong…”
“I’m trying to figure out how he knew about the Master Sword…” Link said.
“Hmm, I guess that there’s more to these guys then what meets the eyes,” Kamura said.
“Yeah…”
“Although, Link, I have to compliment that punch…I was about to cheer like a little girl when you knocked him into the fountain.” Kamura said with a smile.
“Hey, it the Call to Arms. It’s a move that never fails..” Link said, although I kind of wished that I had those Goron Gauntlets…Because I think my hand is broken…” Link said. He could feel it swell a little.
“Here, have some of this,” Kamura offered. He gave link a small flask of red potion. Link drank the potion, and the pain in his hand immediately went away.
“Hmm, Well, I think I need to go and get Malon, and I also need to get the Zora Sapphire from Ruto,” Link said.
“Link, Wait!” Link heard a voice call. Link looked above his head, where Avon was waiting for him.
“Avon? Good to see you again…” Link said, slightly shocked.
“Yeah, Pamela left a while ago, so I came here to find you. Maybe I should have came earlier, I could have helped you fight Zolick,” Avon said.
“Probably not. I didn’t stand a chance without my sword…but soon, that problem will be gone,” Link said with confidence.
“So, let’s go get that sapphire!” Avon said. Link, Avon, and Kamura all headed back into the domain to get the Zora Sapphire. Inside, Ruto and Malon, who was back in her clothes, were waiting on the waterfall overlook. When Link saw Malon, Malon turned her head quickly.
“Hey guys! Avon? When did you get here?” Ruto asked.
“I met them in the fountain,” Avon answered.
“So, you guys have fun?” Ruto asked. Link and Kamura looked at each other, then grinned.
“Yeah, we had fun,” Link said. Kamura began to laugh.
“Well, I don’t know what’s so funny, but here you go Link. It’s the Zora Sapphire, no doubt that it was the thing you came here for,” Ruto said. Ruto gave Link the blue and gold stone. When Link put the stone in his items pouch, he could feel the vibrations of the stones. He could barely keep his excitement. He had all three stones, and he could finally get his true sword back.
“Well, Ruto, it’s been fun, but I think that Malon and me need to head back. I’ll visit you some other time, okay?” Link said. Ruto nodded. Link and Kamura shook hands next.
“Link, if you ever need help with the Kitapos, just come get me, all right, Brother?” Kamura said.
“Sure, Brother, take care,” Link said. With that, Link, Avon and Malon all left the domain. When they got outside, and past the waterfall, Avon went under Link’s hat, so that he wouldn’t disturb Link and Malon.
“So, Malon, how was your day?” Link asked.
“Oh, it was great. I met some amazing people, and I got to see all of Hyrule…and you were with me,” Malon said. Link looked at her, feeling a bit overwhelmed.
“Hmm, some day,” Link said, “It was good to spend so much time with you though,” Link said.
“Link…do you consider this a date?: Malon asked. Link made a shocked squeal.
“Well, that’s hard to call…we never planned anything out…and but we both had a lot of fun…” Link could tell that Malon wanted a direct answer.
“You know what, I had more fun today then I though possible, and it was because you were around…So that made it a date in my book,” Link said. Malon flashed Link a loving smile, and Link felt eyes widen. She was so beautiful. Link held her hand, and the two walked back to the ranch, through the Hylian sunset.
When the two arrived back at the Ranch, Link realized that Pamela went out to the Market.
“Malon, I had a great day…but I think I need to go and find Pamela. She’s out in the Market by herself, and it’s just about nightfall. It’s not safe with that lunatic that’s been killing people in the market,” Link said.
“Well, I had a really good time…” Malon said. She then leant against Link and kissed him on the cheek. When she lowered herself, her and Link began to gaze at each other, “Well…good night,” Malon said, and she went into the house. Link sighed, and turned away from the house. Under Link’s cap, Avon was doing back flips.
The market was closed, and everything was silent. Storm clouds began to form over the town, and the coming of night added to the gloomy ambience. A door to one of the houses opened, and out came two people. Both were men with electric blue hair, and one had a deep gash going across his forehead. He had two swords built on his back, and he held one in his right arm. The other sulked behind him, with his head held low.
“So, are you sure he’ll come?” said the man with the gash on his forehead.
“Yes sir. I don’t think it’s wise to go through with this…You saw what he did to Mateo. Mateo might not ever walk again with all the damage he did to his back…” The other guy said.
“That’s why I need to do this…now, go make sure that the ranch girl has stayed put. I can’t have her running amuck now…” The gashed guy said. The other guy strode back into the house, and he shut the door. The gashed guy then brought his sword to his face.
“Link…it’s time you learned what the price of being an idol is…compliments of the most powerful swordsman you every fight…and probably the last…” The man said. As the main said that, thunder clapped, and the sky began to rumble with anticipation.
And on the roof, a shadowy figure watched, his flashing blue eyes looking amused.
Almost as exciting as the blood soaked blade in his hands.
What is the Price of Being a Good Person by Blind Blitz
“So, tell me, what was it like?” Avon asked as Link and Avon entered the empty market. The place was suspiciously empty, the only sounds were the moans from the dark clouds and Avon’s boyish voice.
“Hmm, now’s not the time…” Link said. His voice was a little deeper, and his eyes were narrow.
“You feel something?” Avon asked.
“Yeah…something is amiss. It’s like someone is waiting for me here,” Link said.
“Link…do you think it’s a Kitapo?” Avon asked.
“Knowing my luck, it’s probably the unknown seventh one,” Link said. He scanned the dark market looking for any trace of a living being. Everything was silent, but Link could feel the winds picking up.
“It’s going to rain soon…” Avon said. Link nodded, thinking about Pamela, who was still somewhere in the empty market.
“I’m really getting worried,” Link said. He clenched his fists, almost nervously. Avon gave a puzzled look, wondering why Link was clenching his fists so fiercely.
“Link, you’re alright?” Avon asked.
“Avon, get under my hat…” Link said. Avon cocked his eyebrow.
“Why? What are you feeling?” Avon asked.
“Just hurry! I feel something, and it’s real close!” Link yelled. Avon bowed his head, and retreated under Link’s hat. Almost on queue, a shadowy figure emerged from the depths of the alleys. He stood a good six feet with two swords held on his back in a cross position. His face held a large gash, one that was clearly done with a blade. His eyes were narrow and cold, almost lifeless. As he stepped towards Link, Link could feel the fierceness the man exhibited.
“I see that you showed up…” The man said, his voice dark and fearful.
“You seem to know me already. Why don’t you introduce yourself,” Link said.
“I am I am Drake, Shadow of the Seven,” The man answered. Link’s eyes grew wide as the man introduced himself. The man was the seventh Kitapo, the one that was hiding in Hyrule.
“What do you want?” Link asked.
“That’s simple…I want your life. You see, you did something I can’t forgive you for. Know I have to bring retribution upon you,” Drake said. Link could tell that he was in trouble. His man was probably a lot stronger physically then Link, and he also wielded two blades.
“What have I done to you?” Link asked, trying to buy time.
“Simple. You have permanently injured one of my apprentices. Because of you, he’ll never walk right again. I think it’s fitting that you feel the pain he feels…” Drake said in a long breath.
“Who was that? I haven’t done anything wrong to any innocent person…” Link began, then he remembered. It was the Palinon at the ranch, the one that hurt Malon. That was who Link had hurt so badly that he would never walk right for at least a month.
“You mean the thief who was stealing horses and cows from the ranch?” Link asked.
“I see you remember your victims. He has nightmares about the punch that injured his back…The shot you said would affect him for the month destroyed the bones in his back.” Drake replied. Link began to get agitated.
“So you’re a leader of thieves…and you want to fight me for doing the wrong thing?” Link asked.
“Of course. In this world, thieves are the only honest race left. When one is brought down, it is our duty to seek revenge,” Drake said.
“Hmm, I thought you were a strong person at first, but now I see that you’re weak…” Link said, “Thieves aren’t what’s needed, it’s people who wish to do good that are needed, not idiots like you and your apprentices. Now, where’s Pamela?” Link asked.
“She’s somewhere. Where is none of my concerns. I’m going to become a legend soon, so the ranch girl is the least of my concerns,” Drake said.
“A legend? You think that killing me will make you a legend? Hmm, Senseless thieves never become legends. They’ll have their names in the headlines, but over time their names are forgotten. Is that the fate you want? To be a forgotten thief?” Link yelled. As soon a Link finished, another clap of thunder shook the ground. Rain began to pour, leaving the two men drenched.
“I’ll be forgotten? Hmm, we’ll see. Here, take this,” Drake said. He tossed one of his swords to Link, “I never liked beating an opponent with an unfair advantage. Besides…I want to show you that I won’t be forgotten!” Drake yelled. As soon as Link unsheathed his knew sword, Drake swung at his head. He seemingly connected, but when the swing was over, Link hadn’t even moved. Link then glared at Drake, annoyed.
“Maybe if you used strength to do good, you could become a legend…but until then, you’re a lowly fool,” Link said. He began to swing the sword in a circle by his side, and he relaxed into a battle pose, still swinging his sword in a circle. Drake rushed forward to attack Link again, but this time Link blocked the attack. Drake stumbled back, but gained his composure in time to block Link’s attack. Drake leapt backwards, so that he could try and think about Link’s next move. Link took the initiative, and leaped into the air. When he neared Drake, he brought his sword crashing down on him. Drake raised his sword to block again, but the force of the strike knocked Drake on the ground. When Drake hit the ground, another thunderbolt echoed through the air.
The rain became more intense, and the winds picked up. As Drake rose, he could no longer see Link’s eyes, for his wet hair whipped across them. All he could see was his smile. The worst thing was happening to Drake. Link was beginning to have fun.
Drake ran forward again, trying to slash Link across the chest. Link arched his back to dodge, and he used his momentum to kick Drake in the jaw. Drake stumbled back, clutching his jaw as Link attacked again. Link swung his sword in front of Drake’s face, performing a feint. When Drake’s eyes followed, Link pulled his fist back, and launched it into Drake’s stomach. Drake flew back into a deserted food stand, breaking the sign in two.
When Drake stood again, he saw Link’s smile once more, but this time he could see Link’s narrow, devilish eyes.
“That’s the face of the Hero of Time…” Drake said, no louder then a whisper. Link began to swing his sword in a circle again, and he settled back into his relaxed battle pose. Drake stood, and stretched his arms and legs.
“Are you tired?” Link asked.
“Of course not…I’m just rusty. My rust won’t stop me from defeating you,” Drake bluffed.
“Relax…You’re only fooling yourself. You’re outclassed in this battle. You’re a talented fighter; your endurance is enough to prove that. The problem is that you want to use your strength for evil things. If you became a knight, or even a battle teacher, you could do a lot of good,” Link said.
“Well, all that doesn’t matter. I chose to be one the Shadow of the Seven!” He proclaimed.
“That’s a sad way to view this. You always have a chance to change. Maybe if you did, I wouldn’t look at you like an idiot,” Link said. Link then stopped spinning his sword, and he brought the sword straight out in front of him.
“You ready?” Drake asked.
“Of course. I was waiting for you to catch your breath,” Link said. Drake ran forward again, only to meet a knee from Link. Drake doubled over, and Link cracked the hilt of the sword on Drake’s back. Drake fell, but he stood again quickly. He tried to feint Link by splashing water on Link, but Link saw through it and he slashed Drake in his stomach. It was a shallow cut, but it was enough to shock Drake. Drake, in rage, swung wildly at Link, who nimbly dodged ever swing. After a moment, when Drake’s furious swings began to slow, Link stuck Drake’s sword, breaking it free from his grasp. He then delivered a kick to Drake’s sternum.
Drake fell near his sword, so he picked it up and tried to attack Link. As he neared, Link leapt into the air, as high as he did when he struck down Drake’s apprentice. Drake looked in the air, and prepared to dodge any attack that Link would make. As he looked into the sky, Drake could see the cloud swirling, and the rain stopping. The sound of thunder faded as Drake waited for the attack. Suddenly, Drake heard Link’s yell as he brought the sword crashing down on Drake. The rain dropped again as Link fell. When Link got close, he swung his sword, breaking Drake’s defense, and striking his back with the flat of his sword. Drake fell to the ground, lifeless, followed by a chorus of thunder.
Link looked down, watching as Drake laid in a puddle for a moment. Soon, Drake’s arms and legs began to move, and he turned himself over to face Link. Link then sheathed his sword and placed it by Link’s body.
“What you just felt was the Call to Arms, but it was a sword variation of it used for practice. Usually, I would use the blade, but that would have surely killed you. If I wouldn’t have used a sword at all, that would have been the same attack that crippled your apprentice,” Link explained.
“Fine, now kill me,” Drake coughed. Link’s eyes widened when he said that.
“No way! I can’t do that after just now sparing your life!” Link said.
“Yes you can. My honor won’t allow me to live, knowing that I was beaten so badly by a Hylian,” Drake said. He grunted as he felt a burst of pain from his back.
“No, I can’t bring myself to kill anyone who doesn’t deserve to die,” Link said.
“You said it yourself. I’m a fool,” He choked.
“Yeah, you are, but even fool deserve to live. Besides, this could be the time that you and your apprentices began to do good,” Link said.
“What? What could we do good?” Drake asked.
“First off, you can pass on your endurance to someone. You took a blade version of the Call to Arms, and you’re not crippled. You need to teach others how to do that,” Link said, “Then you need to teach others swordsmanship.”
“So you’re just going to let me go?” Drake said, now trying his hardest to rise to his feet. He stood tall, gaining his balance after the shock of the Call to Arms.
“Yeah, go and start over. Besides, I really need to find someone. Good luck!” Link said. Link then turned and walked off, hoping to find Pamela. Soon though, as he began to scan the area again, he head Drake yelp. He turned to see what happened, and his eyes widened at the scene.
Drake was on the ground scooting away from the man, who held a sword to his throat. Link couldn’t tell who he was, until he saw the bloodstains on the man’s sword. He swung warningly at Drake, who closed his eyes in fear. The man then snapped his head in Link’s direction. It was Mardan Dark.
Link wished that he hadn’t put his sword on the ground, because he was sure that he was going to need it.
“Hello, brother!” Mardan greeted sickly.
“I told you, we’re not friends…” Link growled.
“Oh, really? You know, you’re a real drama queen, Link,” Mardan laughed at his own joke.
“There’s nothing to laugh about, you murderer. You’ve been killing Hylians all over the Market. Now you’ve turned your blade on a fellow Palinon,” Link said.
“Yeah, but he accepted sympathy from a Hylian. He’s an honorless dog now,” Mardan retorted. Mardan then dashed forward at Link, attempting to attack. Link’s eyes grew wider as he braced himself for another attack. All of a sudden, Link’s eyes went blurry.
A blurry vision crossed Link’s eyes. It was one a boy who sat in the corner, surrounded by a multitude of other children. They all laughed at him, poking and pointing at him mockingly. He sat in the corner, but instead of shedding a tear, he began to glare back, and his eyes lost their color. Then, as the rest of the children dispersed, a blonde haired girl with bright green blue eyes walked to him and sat next to him. She wrapped her arm around him, and tried to make him smile. After a moment of prodding he returned the smile.
The vision faded into a shot of the blonde haired girl years later, with a boy in all green. She embraced the boy in all green, and kissed his cheek. Another boy sat in an alley nearby, and watched. A single tear streaked down his face, but there wasn’t a sad mark on his face. He wore a smile, along with his dead eyes.
Then another vision came into focus. It was the same dead eyed guy as before, but this time, he was on all fours, in the presence of a shadowy figure. The shadowy figure placed a hand on the boy’s head, and all of his emotions seeped away. When the boy stood, he looked into space, as if his mind was dead. The shadowy figure handed him a sword. When the boy wrapped his fingers around the sword, and aura formed around him, a deep blue hue.
The visions all faded back into reality for Link. Now, however, Mardan was gone. Link could see Drake’s lesser apprentice help him into an alley, but he could not see Mardan. Link began to run through the alleys, searching for Mardan. As he neared the residential areas, he was suddenly grabbed and pulled into a small alley. Link began to struggle, the one holding him tried to calm him down.
“Link, calm down! Be quiet, or you’ll attract his attention!” He heard the voice say. Link nodded, and the person let him go. Link turned to see who it was who it was, and gasped slightly. It was Dierro.
“Dierro, where did you come from?” Link asked.
“I followed Mardan after I stopped him from attacking you. Mardan ran off, so I ran, knowing that you would come this way,” Dierro explained.
“Oh, well, where’s Mardan now?” Link asked Dierro.
“He’s disappeared. I think he’s gone back into hiding. Link, come back with me,” Dierro said. Link followed, hoping to find safe haven until he would resume his search for Pamela. Link followed Dierro to a house, one that didn’t really stick out any from the others. He walked in through the back door, as did Link.
The interior of Dierro’s house was very well furnished. It had delicate sofas and chairs, along with a nice white carpet, a rarity in Hyrule. Link took off his shoes and placed them outside, so that he wouldn’t get Dierro’s floor dirty.
“Link, you can have a seat right here,” Dierro suggested. Link sat on the sofa Dierro suggested. Link looked around, almost nervously. Deirro walked into a nearby bathroom, but left the door open. Link was sure that he was washing his face.
“So, this is your house?” Link asked.
“Yes. Victoria and me bought this house last year. It nice and cozy to us,” Dierro said.
“I see. So, where’s your wife now?” Link asked.
“Oh, her and Hope are probably in the kitchen,” Dierro said. Soon, two girls, one a grown woman and the other, a little girl all walked into the room. The woman was very beautiful, but in a more sophisticated way. The little girl clung nervously to her mother’s leg.
“Hello there. I take you to be Link?” The woman asked.
“Yes, how are you?” Link asked.
“I’m doing fine. My name is Victoria, but I’m sure that Dierro has told you that,” She said.
“Yes, he has, and this must be Hope,” Link said gently as he squatted to meet her gaze. Hoped waved sheepishly before hiding behind her mother’s leg again.
“I’m sorry, but Hope and I need to go back in the kitchen. We’re entertaining another guest,” She said. Hope and her mother walked back into the kitchen. Dierro walked out of his room, with a towel over his hair.
“So, what do you think?” Dierro said.
“You are a truly luck man,” Link said, “I would love to have a family like this, and a house like this.”
“Hey, I’m not trying to sound weird, but tell me. I decided to go back to my original hair style, so tell me if it suits me,” He said.
“I think that your wife could do that better then me,” Link said. Dierro took down the towel, and a look of shock flashed across Link’s face. Dierro’s hair was a deep blue color.
“Wait, are you going undercover for something?” Link asked.
“No, this is my real hair color,” Dierro said.
“Hold up…” Link then began to remember something. He remembered Dierro sneaking up on him in the Tavern, and Dierro fighting Vexus. He then remembered Dierro coincidentally coming to his rescue when Mardan was about to finish him.
“I see that it has hit you,” Dierro said. Link bowed his head in thought.
“It’s you…” Link said. Suddenly, Dierro brought his spear to Link’s face, holing it an inch in front of his nose. Link didn’t flinch.
“You understand?” Dierro asked. Link grabbed the handle of the spear, and he looked Dierro in his eyes.
“You’re the seventh Kitapo…” Link muttered. Link pulled the spear from Dierro’s hands, and threw it to the side, knocking over a vase.
“Yes, you are right. I am the seventh Kitapo of the Elite Kitapo Regiment. I am Dierro, the Destroyer,” He said. His entire kind face was erased, replaced by the look of a fearful soldier.
“So, that’s why you’ve been helping me. You wanted to lead me here, so that you could kill me,” Link said.
“That’s where you’re wrong,” Dierro replied, “I led you here to save you from Mardan Dark.”
“Like I haven’t heard that before…” Link growled.
“You’re right, you have heard that before,” Dierro said, “but before you try and defeat me, maybe you should hear my story.”
“What’ll that do?” Link said.
“It’ll give you a reason to attack me, because without one, you’ll be killing an innocent man in front of three girls,” Dierro said. Link turned, where Victoria, Hope, and surprisingly, Pamela all stood. Link’s eyes grew wide as he saw Pamela, who was there the entire time.
“Go ahead,” Link submitted.
“Well, where should I begin? Oh yes, first off, I know that you’ve heard about King Garibal,” Dierro began, “And you’ve heard about his platoon of Kitapos.”
“Actually, no I haven’t,” Link cut in.
“King Garibal has his own platoon of Kitapos who are used more like a Special Forces league of his army. They are sent to neighboring countries in times of trouble. I belonged to that troop,” Dierro explained.
“How can I trust that?” Link asked.
“It’s how we met…” Victoria explained. Link thought for a minute.
“Yes, during the time of Ganondorf’s rule, I was sent here to give assistance to the Hylian resistance. It was ironic, that the entire time I was here helping them, the Hylians who I protected looked down upon me. I wanted to quit, and leave the Hylians to fend for themselves…Then I met Victoria,” Dierro stated. He looked to his wife lovingly, “She was to only one who showed me any kindness. She opened her heart to me, and I gladly walked in. I swear, it felt like I found another half of myself in her. I was teased and taunted by my comrades, but they were happy for me deep down. I wanted to stay in Hyrule and be with her, even if it meant turning away from Palis. But soon, I would get called back to Palis.”
“When I returned, I continually wrote to her, but when I finally got a reply, it changed my life. She was pregnant with our child, but I was stuck on duty in Palis. I wanted to defect, and leave my home. I became moody and short-tempered, and my superior, King Garibal saw that. He called me into his office. I thought I was fired, but he instead listened to my case. When he heard, he allowed me to live in Hyrule, so that I could live with my new family. Needless to say, I gladly accepted. It’s ironic that the moment I returned, word spread that Ganondorf had been defeated,” He said, looking at Link with a smirk.
“So, you don’t work for Donovan,” Link confirmed.
“Yes, but I still do receive intelligence from His Excellency. Moments after I met you, I received a letter. I told me that He would come after you,” Dierro said.
“And who’s He?” Link asked.
“Vexus…my Sect Brother…” Dierro said.
“I pray to the goddesses that he be saved…” Victoria said. Link cocked his eyebrow.
“Saved? What’s wrong with him?” Link inquired.
“Vexus was my best friend growing up. He and I always aspired to be Kitapos. One day, when our training sect was broken up, Donovan appeared, and enlisted him as a Kitapo in his newly formed regiment. Even then, we stayed good friends…but he couldn’t take some of the horrors of the battlefield. After Victoria and me got married, He sent me a letter saying that he wished that he would never have to fight again. Then, two years ago, He returned, this time with Mardan Dark. Mardan Dark cast a spell on him, one that would make him forget his horrendous acts on the battle field through a type of mind control. To test it, Mardan used his control to make Vexus cast a spell on Hope…one that erased her voice,” Dierro said, his head down, “I tried to stop him, but Mardan held me and Victoria back…all I could remember was Hope’s scream…and the moment when the scream faded away…”
“Yes…we want Vexus to be saved so that we can have him reverse the spell,” Victoria said solemnly.
“What a story…now, I have one more question. What’s Pamela doing here?” Link asked.
“Oh, that’s simple. I came here searching for the Seventh Kitapo,” Pamela said.
“What would you have done if he would have killed you?” Link asked, slightly agitated.
“If I wanted to, I couldn’t have…She’s the daughter of a famous local detective. If she were killed, the Kitapo’s cover would be blown,” Dierro said.
“Oh…” Link stuttered. He knew from hearing Dierro’s speech, that he could trust him.
“So, Link, what do you say?” Dierro asked.
“I say that I can believe you. Besides, if you betray me, I could easily kill you,” Link said with a laugh. The two laughed heartily.
“Okay, that’s settled…Link, why don’t you stay here for the night?” Dierro offered.
“Sure, Pamela, are you staying here, too?” Link asked.
“Yes. Avon, could you do me another favor?” Pamela asked.
“Sure, anything for you!” Avon chimed, flying from Link’s hat. Dierro’s eyes widened when he saw Avon.
“Can you fly to the ranch and tell Malon that me and Link are staying in the city with Dierro’s family?”
“Sure! I’ll be back tomorrow morning!” Avon said. He flew out of a window, and headed for the ranch. Pamela yawned, and followed Victoria upstairs.
“So, Link, want to play a game of cards before I head upstairs?” Dierro asked.
“Sure, and you can tell me more about your Kitapo regiment while we’re at it!” Link said.
The two played till the middle of the night, with no more secrets.
The next morning, Link awoke, his eyes narrow already. He walked to the bathroom and took a bath. When he was done, he put on his clothes and armor, and he tightened everything. He clenched his fists, and swung a few punches in the air to warm up. He saw Avon outside, scrapping at the window. He let him in, and Avon immediately landed on Link’s shoulder.
“So, this is the day!” Avon yelled.
“Yes…today marks the beginning of the end for Donovan and his Kitapos…” Link said, clenching his fists, “Today, my sword returns to my fists…” Link growled. He walked out the front door, and began to walk to the Temple of Time.
“So, you feel like you’re ready?” Link heard Dierro say behind him. Link looked over his shoulder at his friend.
“I don’t know…all I know is that a lot of people are depending on me…and I don’t want to let them down…” Link said.
“If you want, I’ll help you…Besides, no matter what your mission is, Vexus is MY target, I will save him,” Dierro said.
“Dierro, I may not be able to accept your help to become Donovan’s Honor. Besides, there’s a lot of danger involved. I might not survive this ordeal. I don’t want you to fall with me,” Link said that, and he started striding to the Temple of Time again.
“Good luck…” Dierro said.
“I won’t need it, brother. Hopefully, I’ll return in one piece,” Link said. He waved over his shoulder one last time.
“Hmm…Only time will tell…” Dierro then walked back into his house.
“Today it begins…” Link muttered one more time, as he turned to corner to the temple. He looked at the structure, and he hesitated one last time. He gripped the door, and he opened the large temple doors slowly.
He knew that this upcoming moment could change his life.
What Lies Above the Tower of Babel? by Blind Blitz
The large wooden door creaked open slowly. Inside the temple, Link was greeted with the sight of the three story tall silver marble walls, which reached higher than any structure. The teleportation platform with the crest of the Temple of Light stood in the middle of the tiled floors. Past the teleportation pad, a long red carpet with golden frills led to the coal black and silver altar. Past that, two slanted stairs led to a large blue door with the symbol of time carved into it. This was known as the Door of Time. A godly hum echoed through the halls. The song the walls sang was none other than the “Song of Time.”
“Avon, I want you to come out and see this…” Link said. Avon appeared from under Link’s hat, and he sat on his shoulder.
“What’s up?” Avon asked.
Link placed all three of the precious stones that he collected into the holes that were in the altar. The stones all began to resonate, each one glowing a specific color. They also began to rattle, much to the point where they levitated above the altar. The hum of the gods slowly faded, and the eerie hum of the stones overpowered every sound. Link pulled out his Ocarina of Time, and played the “Song of Time.” The Humming intensified with the echoing notes of the song. A crest appeared above the Door of Time, a crest of the Triforce. It glowed an intense gold. When the crest reached it’s maximum luminosity, the Door of Time began to rattle open.
“Wow…So that’s what was going to happen…” Avon said. Link walked into the newly opened chamber. Inside, a lone light shone from a skylight. It focused on the only object of interest in the room. In the center of the large Triforce symbol on the ground, in the center of the missing piece of the Triforce, lay the weapon that saved the entire world only years previous. The Master Sword waited for someone to pull it from it’s holy spot.
Link reached out his hand and grasped the hilt. When his hand made contact, and intense wind radiated from the weapon, along with a powerful blue light. Link closed his eyes and separated the sword from the pedestal. The blue light began to collect around the sword, and formed a blue and gold scabbard around the weapon. Link held the weapon in the air as waves of intense energy settled into the sword.
“Link…is all that the power of that sword?” Avon asked.
“Yes, this is the power of the Sword of Evil’s Bane!” Link said. He lowered the sword as the winds settled. He unsheathed the sword and placed it on his back. Link then swung the sword a few times in the air, regaining the feel for his sword.
“I knew that that weapon would have immense energy, but that was incredible!” Link heard someone declare. Link turned to the voice. He drew a long breath, as he realized who the voice belonged to. Donovan had arrived, along with Alana.
“I didn’t know that you wanted to rush to your death…” Link said.
“If I was doing that, I wouldn’t have brought Alana. I merely came to see how you were doing,” Donovan said.
“You knew what I was planning?” Link asked. He took a few steps towards Donovan.
“Of course. It was obvious. Getting the weapon that defeated Lord Ganondorf to defeat me seemed like an obvious choice,” Donovan said.
“Is that why you’re goons have been looking for me?” Link accused.
“No, they came after you of their own free will. I didn’t need them for now, so I allowed them time to explore Hyrule. I can’t control them if they want to shorten their lives,” Donovan replied calmly.
“So you would allow your servants to die?!” Link yelled.
“Their lives are their concerns. If they get themselves killed, I’ll mourn, but the fault will not lie on me,” Donovan said.
“How sadistic…” Link growled.
“Not really…because in some sense, I’m allowing them more freedom that what they’ve had in their entire lives,” Donovan said.
“Freedom…at the cost of others,” Link said.
“You’re talking about the tavern?” Donovan asked, slightly puzzled.
“Of course.”
“I can say that I did not wish to send all those Hylians to their deaths. It would have done me fine to just pull the Kitapos out of their…but I wanted to allow them some breathing time,” Donovan explained.
“Breathing time?”
“Yes…the Kitapos have grown a bloodlust. It’s becoming harder and harder to control them without killing them. If I didn’t, they could have revolted…and that would spell disaster for Hyrule,” Donovan said.
“So you’re saying that you’re some kind of hero?” Link asked.
“No, not in the slightest. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve done many things that I’m not proud of. I’ve sent many to their untimely deaths. I feel remorse for those that die at my hands to fulfill my purpose, but I know that my purpose is just, and must be finished,” Donovan said.
“Becoming a god is just?! It’s an idealistic fairy tale!” Link yelled.
“No, the god motion is just a motivation for my Kitapos. I have a different use for the Dark Triforce,” Donovan said.
“A different use?”
“Yes…there is something that I need to take back…even if I have to tear apart the world to do it,” Donovan said. Donovan turned to Alana and removed the cloak he was wearing. He handed it to her. She hugged it to her chest and stared at her leader.
“Link, have you ever heard of the Tower of Babel?” Donovan asked.
“What is that?” Link asked.
“Eons ago, shortly after the creation of man, a dominant race known as humans walked this land. They lived in perfect harmony…no wars, violence, hatred, just pride. The Humans were proud that they could live as one huge family. They began to boast to the gods, declaring their unity. The Humans weren’t satisfied with words alone thought. They wanted to leave a mark that every one on every walk of life could see, something that could cut through the skies, into the endless heavens above. They began to work on a tower, one that would reach higher than any mountain. They named it the Tower of Babel.
“This was built in what is now the Gerudo Valley. All the population of this planet came to work on the Tower of Babel. The people who worked on different parts began to change from the Human race. The women who stayed at the bottom and cooked became darker. They eventually would become the Gerudo race. Many men and women swam from places, carrying supplies from forests to desert. They became so used to water that they formed fins, and even a dependency on water itself. This group became the Zoras. Another group walked great distances over land. They adapted to the rocky ground of the mountains, and evolved into the Goron race.
“The Tower neared completion. It had passed the clouds, and was beginning to reach into the blackness beyond. One day, though, a sole man reached his hand into the sky. Instead of touching nothing, his hand came into contact with something. When his hand touched this object, the entire sky burst in a sea of colors. The ground shook violently, and the waters crashed against the shores. The Tower began to sway, enough to where it crashed. The people working on the tower fell to every part of the world. Some fell into the seas north of Hyrule, and they became the Catalians. The strongest race of workers fell to what is now Palis, and became my race, the Palinons. The final race fell to the heartland of Hyrule. They became the Hylians…and the man who touched the sky became the King of Hyrule,” Donovan finished his story.
“Wow…” Link said.
“As you can see, a Hylian split apart the races of the world… and his bloodline continue…” Donovan said, “I believe that maybe if I try the same approach, I’ll reach the Dark Triforce.”
“Wait…that large training center…” Link started.
“Is the new Tower of Babel…” Donovan finished.
“But if a tower of it’s size collapsed…”
“Then the entire country of Hyrule could be killed in the initial blast, while thousands of miles of other countries would be destroyed by the shockwave,” Donovan said, “I’ve done the calculations. I know the price of my actions…”
“That’s sick!” Link yelled.
“No, it’s determination. I will do anything to get that one piece of my life back,” Donovan said.
“What about everyone else?” Link asked.
“Link, it’s a prime fact that history is destined to repeat itself. If my actions bring that on, then the fault will pass to fate. My action could help forward the progressions of the Goddesses Will,”: Donovan explained.
“The Goddesses Will?” Link asked.
“The will to create a greater, more powerful world after ridding the earth of it’s more primitive creatures,” Donovan justified. Alana then step to Donovan’s side and handed him a sword. The decorations on the blade were beautiful and finely crafted. It’s blade was slightly longer than that of the master sword, but Donovan held it calmly with one hand.
“Link, after hearing that, your desire to kill me has only increased, hasn’t it?” Donovan asked.
“Of course…I can’t let anybody destroy Hyrule…” Link said.
“You don’t want to fail again. I grow tired of talking now. Link, raise your sword,” Donovan commanded.
“Why?” Link asked.
“I wish to challenge you to a duel. I want to test your strength in these hallowed halls,” Donovan said. Link raised the Master sword, and begun to spin it a circle like he did against Drake.
“Zelda doesn’t want me to do this…but if I have a chance to end this, I must take it!” Link yelled. He then ran towards Donovan, his sword raised. As he neared, he could almost hear his sister crying for him to stop.
The moment their swords connected, a flash of light engulfed the temple. The sound of their thundering blades could be heard outside, in the seemingly untouched exterior of the temple. Link’s attack was blocked, but Donovan decided not to capitalize. Instead, he waited for Link to regain his composure, then threw a devastating attack to Link’s chest. Link parried the blow, and sung a fist at Donovan’s stomach. The attack connected, but Donovan merely flinched to the pain of the attack. Link tried punching Donovan again, but Donovan caught the fist and threw Link to the side. Link stood, and brushed himself off. He then leapt into the air to attack Donovan from the air. He came crashing down, only to meet Donovan’s parry. Link landed on his feet, but in his moment of confusion, Donovan kicked Link into the wall of the Temple. Link bounced off the wall onto the ground. He arched his back in a shock of pain, and slowly stood. He twisted his body to stretch, hearing a disgusting crack from his back. He then glared at Donovan. He tried to search for a weak point, but from Donovan’s defense, he couldn’t sense one. Suddenly, an idea came to mind.
Link tried leaping into the air again, but this time, he rose so high that he touched the ceiling of the temple. When he began his descent, energy collected around his blade. He neared his target, and as soon as he was ready, he swung his sword and blunt of his blade connected with Donovan’s back. Donovan fell to the ground in a lifeless heap.
“I’ve been forced to use this move a lot…Call to Arms,” Link said. He towered over the fallen Donovan, looking down at the crippled victim.
“Donovan, stand up!” Alana yelled. Donovan turned over to reveal a smile. Link gasped as Donovan stood calmly, as if nothing had ever happened. He brushed his shoulders off and stared excitedly to Link.
“You’re a formidable opponent!” Donovan declared with a laugh, “I want to see your Call to Arms again!”
Link flipped backwards, and leapt into the air once more. As he fell, Donovan did a somersault, and in the middle of his flip, kicked Link out of the air. Link struck the ground and bounced towards the altar. Link could feel several ribs crack, and he felt a finger in his left hand break. And intense pain shot through all of Link’s body as he attempted to stand. A look of agony crossed his face.
“Link! Can you still fight?!” Link heard Avon cry.
“Yes…I’m just a little shook up,” Link replied slowly.
“I see…I’m pretty sure that a few bones broke during that last exchange. I know that back has several bone injuries from that Call to Arms,” Donovan said.
“I think that I need to give it everything,” Link said.
“Ditto. Alana, I want you to leave this temple and wait outside. If I don’t come out in the next hour, then I’m dead,” Donovan said.
“Sir, why can’t I stay and watch?” Alana asked.
“Alana, I don’t want you to see what I’m about to become…” Alana’s eyes widened, and she slowly exited the temple. Donovan then turned to Link, but now his eyes had narrowed fiercely. Link’s had done the same. They rest their swords against each other, waiting for the other to make the first move. The entire temple grew silent, waiting to see what would happen next.
Donovan struck first. He swung his sword to Link’s stomach, missing my and inch. Link spun and used the momentum of his spin to throw Donovan’s guard. While Donovan was stunned, Link punched Donovan onto his pack. Link swung his sword while Donovan was down, but Donovan rolled to the side and swept-kicked Link. Link fell to the ground, but still swung at Donovan. The two rolled away from each other and stood, both breathing heavily. Donovan then charged towards Link, gathering a blue aura around his sword. Link put up a guard, but the impact of the attack still caused Link to skid backwards. Link, seeing that he was near the wall, he pushed himself against the wall, and sprung himself towards Donovan. The added momentum caused Donovan to jump to the side. When Link spun around to face Donovan, Donovan swung at Link’s head. The tip of the blade grazed Link’s forehead and cause a trickle of blood to fall down Link’s face. Donovan tried to attack Link’s chest, but Link punched the blunt of the blade downwards and slashed with his other hand to Donovan’s cheek. He cut a gash in Donovan’s cheek, which began to bleed as well. They both jumped backwards, and began staring each other down again.
“Link, the way you fight is incredible. Such polished moves…You would make an amazing Kitapo,” Donovan said.
“You don’t disappoint…” Link said. It was odd. Link felt like he was enjoying the battle.
“Link, there’s something important that you must know…and I will show it to you in this next exchange!” Donovan yelled. He ran towards Link, raising his sword. Link lowered his sword to block, but as soon as he did, it felt as though time had stopped.
“Link you chose to fight me with a sword that is made only to destroy evil…as chosen by the gods,” Donovan said. He brought his sword crashing down on Link. Link raised his blade to block, but when he did, he heard the sound of something shatter.
“The problem is that the God’s don’t think that my intentions are evil…” Donovan said. He backed away, allowing Link to see what happened. Link looked down to his hilt.
The Master Sword’s blade had shattered into hundreds of pieces.
Donovan then tried to attack Link as he contemplated what happened. Link could no longer block, so instead, he did the only thing he could. He struck Donovan’s face with the remains of the master sword, and one of Donovan’s feet connected with Link’s stomach. They both fell, and after a moment, they backed away from each other. They stood with an exhausted look on their faces.
“Link, that was the best battle I’ve had in a decade…You truly are the Hero of Time,” Donovan complemented.
“And you truly are the King of Palis…” Link muttered. He didn’t want to admit it, but Donovan was much better then he ever imagined.
“Link…I believe that you know the rules of my death…” Donovan said, “I know that you know that it would have been impossible to kill me in the battle.” Donovan said.
“Yes…I am not yet your Honor,” Link muttered.
“Correct. But I leave with a parting word,” Donovan turned, and opened the door to the temple. The temple flooded with light from the outside.
“You are now my Honor!” Donovan declared as he left the temple. He walked to Alana, who was waiting by the door. She placed her armed around his waist and they walked off together.
Link stood for a moment, then fell to one knee in exhaustion. He looked at the ground, feeling victory and defeat. He had became Donovan’s Honor, but he had done it at the cost of the Master Sword. Link rose to his feet and looked at the shards of the Master sword spread around the temple.
And as he stared upon the shards, he remembered what Donovan had said about the Goddess’s Will.
“If the Goddesses think that he’s right…then am I destined to die fighting him?” Link wondered.
Chapter 10: Who is Donovan? by Blind Blitz
Chapter 10
Who is Donovan?
Link rose yet again, this time with all of his energy. He looked around the hall in dismay, still thinking about the broken sword. He looked towards the altar, and the three Spiritual Stones, all of which had lost their shine. Even the torchlight of the temple had dimmed. He pulled out his Ocarina, deciding to communicate with Zelda.
“Zelda, can you hear me?” Link asked through his mind. He heard nothing at first, until his sister’s voice broke through the silence.
“Link? How are you?” Zelda asked.
“Fine…winded, but fine,” Link said.
“How did you get winded?” Zelda asked.
“I just retrieved the Master Sword…then I did battle with Donovan,” Link said.
“Oh my Goddesses!” Zelda gasped.
“Yeah, I survived, but barely. He’s much stronger then what I was told,” Link said.
“Wow, so is he still alive?” Zelda asked.
“Yeah, I couldn’t kill him then. He deemed me his honor though,” Link said.
“You understand what that means, right?” Zelda asked. You could sense the fear in her voice.
“Yes, his words symbolize a blood promise. We’ll fight again. When we do, either he will die, or I will die,” Link said solemnly. Link could sense a deep sadness in Zelda’s voice. “Zelda, there’s more though. I need the location of a good blacksmith in Hyrule.”
“Why?” Zelda asked.
“Before I tell you, please promise not to yell,” Link said.
“What happened?” Zelda asked.
“At the end of the battle, Donovan destroyed the Master Sword,” Link said. Link wished that he could avoid the scream that escaped Zelda’s mind.
“He broke it? How do you break a legendary weapon?” Zelda screamed.
“He said that the gods intentions wouldn’t allow him to die by the Master Sword,” Link explained.
“This has been a crazy three days. I can’t believe that the Master Sword is gone,” Zelda said, “But the good news is that I know someone who can repair the blade.”
“Good, can you tell me where to meet him?” Link asked.
“He took the old Happy Mask shop. I’ll warn you, this man loves his work…and he’s an odd one about sword breakers,” Zelda warned.
“Then he’s going to hate me. I’ll talk to you later,” Link said.
“Good bye!” With that, Zelda’s voice faded. Link shook his head, and left the Temple. Outside, his eyes were forced to adjust to the light. After a moment of shock, he began to walk towards the old Happy Mask store. He walked up to the locale, which now was shaped like the hilt of a sword.
“Link, I got a question for you,” Avon said. He flew from under Link’s hat and in front of Link’s face.
“Yeah, what’s wrong?” Link asked. Avon sighed.
“If you’ve already become the Honor, then what will happen to the Kitapos?” Avon asked.
“I don’t know…it would be in the world’s best interest to destroy them,” Link said.
“I know that…but something about Donovan’s quote troubles me. He said that the Goddesses have chosen his intentions…” Avon said.
“I know…” Link muttered.
“Well, doesn’t that mean that fighting him means that we’re fighting the goddesses?” Avon asked.
“I don’t know…” Link said.
“And if we’re fighting the goddesses, what makes us better than people like Ganondorf?” Avon asked.
“I really don’t know. All I know is that Donovan is a threat to Hyrule, and it’s hard to believe that the Goddesses would throw their support behind him,” Link said, “He wants to have something, even at the cost of the entire world. There’s no way that the Goddesses would help that.”
“I hope that’s the case,” Avon said. Link sighed, and opened the door to the shop. Inside the dark room many swords and shields painted the brown walls. The smell of oil and fire tainted the room, as did the sight of dust and the piles of metal shards. The room was abnormally hot, probably from the numerous ovens lined across the back of the room. There was a counter in the middle of the building, and a man stood behind it. He wore a brown apron and a gray shirt underneath. His hair was white and was very untidy. He looked young, but his skin was covered in scars. His eyes held a mad glint. Link walked up to the man.
“Ahh, we have an established swordsman here!” He yelled. Link’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Err, right. I was told that you’re a capable blacksmith. I have a dilemma that you could help me with,” Link said.
“Capable? Link, I’m the best sword artist in the world!” He gloated.
“How did you know my name?” Link asked.
“I told you. Only the greatest in the world could know someone’s name before they tell them!” He said. Avon sighed.
“Are you sure that it’s not the fact that everyone knows who Link looks like? I mean, he is famous,” Avon asked.
“Silence, you insolent fairy! You’re simple mind cannot comprehend the powers of Sword Art I have! Non-believers like you never know how to accept greatness!” The blacksmith yelled.
“Well, Mr…er…” Link began, realizing that he didn’t know his name.
“The name’s Sanada!” he said.
“Okay. Well, what makes you a good blacksmith?”
“What makes me good? I’m a descendant of the sages that created the Master Sword. It’s in my blood to make beautiful swords that change the world!” He declared.
“Hmm, I guess that you’re lineage didn’t prepare you for what Link is about to request,” Avon muttered.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Sanada asked. Link placed the broken hilt onto the counter.
“I was wondering if you could repair this,” Link asked. Sanada’s eyebrows raised into his hair. His began to shake angrily, clenching his fists. His face began to turn a purplish hue.
“You…broke…the…Master…Sword…” He stammered. He looked at Link with a glare of death.
“I didn’t break it. Donovan did,” Link defended.
“It doesn’t matter who you fought when it happens! The safety of a sword is in the hands of the swordsman! What kind of hero are you! You broke the my ancestor’s prized weapon! How careless could you be?” Sanada raged.
“It’s not my fault. No one could have known the stipulation that was put on the sword!” Link continued to defend himself.
“Stipulation? You mean the fact that the sword can’t be used against someone who isn’t completely evil?” Sanada asked. Link nodded, “You idiot! It’s common sense!”
“Okay, I get your point. Can you just repair the sword?” Link asked, slightly annoyed.
“I can repair it, but to get the metal to the perfect state for a repair of this magnitude, it would take a few years,” Sanada said, “And besides, I wouldn’t give the sword back to you anyway!”
“Well can you give me a new sword then?” Link asked, this time, really annoyed.
“I can do that. I have one that not even you could break!” He said. Sanada ran to one of the ovens, and reached behind it. He pulled out a sword, and looked at it lovingly. He then strode back to the counter, placing the sword on the counter.
“What sword is this?” Link asked.
“It’s called a Razor Shadow,” Sanada said, “It’s a blade that uses a special metal that changes forms depending on the user. If you fight with this, then the intention you have during the battle decides which form this sword takes.”
“So this blade changes depending on what I want?” Link asked.
“
Yes. I have only seen one person transform it before, but it took him a while to finally do it,” Sanada said.
“Who was that?” Link asked.
“Donovan. He has the original, and in his hands, the sword became the Razor’s Soul,” Sanada said, “He still wields it to this day.”
“So that’s the blade that this sword will become…” Link said, “Okay, I’ll take it.”
“Fine, but if you break this one, I’ll never give you another sword ever,” Sanada said.
“Okay, I got you,” Link said. He then took the sword of the counter. He place it on his sword holder on his back, and left the store.
“Link, I hope that we never have to see him again,” Avon said.
“Ditto…he got on my nerves,” Link said. Link leaned against the store, catching his breath. He still felt the pain from his battle with Donovan.
“You know, it’s not wise to show your weakness in such a private place,” Link heard someone say from right next to him. It was a female’s voice. Link turned to see who was speaking to him. When he turned, he was greeted by Alana’s smile.
“Alana…one of the Kitapos,” Link said. His eyes narrowed.
“Yes that’s right. I’m Alana the Voice,” She said. She then raised her hand and placed it on Link’s cheek, “Fix those eyes, Link. I’m not a fighter. I’m not going to attack you. I won’t bite.”
“Why are you here?” Link asked.
“I wanted to find you…” She said slowly. Her hand began to move up and down the side of her face. No matter how much Link didn’t show it, he loved the feeling.
“Why did you want to find me? Did Donovan send you?” Link asked.
“Donovan doesn’t care what we do for now. He’s given us a three day vacation to do what we want around Hyrule,” She said.
“So Hadin and Zolick attacked me just because they felt like it?” Link asked.
“Yes, there’re loose cannons. Link, I’d rather not continue the conversation here. Why don’t we find a more secluded area?” Alana suggested. She grabbed Link’s hand and led him out of the market. Link could feel his face burn. She led him to a small patch of land behind the residential area. Link could see Dierro’s house in the distance. There was a small spring there.
They also weren’t alone. There was a man who held a large spear leaning against a tree. It was Vexus, the Spearmaster.
“So this was your plan, Alana?” Link said, bringing his hand close to his sword.
“What do you mean? Do you think I led you here to get slaughtered by Vexus?” Alana asked. Vexus looked at Link blankly.
“Lower your hand, Link. I have no intention of fighting you here,” Vexus said, “There is only one person that I want to fight in Hyrule…”
“Dierro…” Link said.
“I see he told you the story. He’s the only one I want to fight,” Vexus said.
“You see, Vexus is one of the more civilized members of the Kitapos,” Alana said. Vexus smirked, and closed his eyes.
“Alana, it’s comments like that…” He said.
“Oh, shut up,” She retorted. Link stood there, looking confused.
“Alana, what was the purpose of bringing me here?” Link asked. Alana sighed.
“Link, I wanted to know…why do you want to fight Master Donovan?”
“He allowed you Kitapos to kill all those people…and he’s willing to exterminated the entire world for no good reason,” Link said calmly.
“Link, what do you really know about Donovan?” Alana said. Link began to speak, but Alana cut him off, “Link what do you know about the things he seen and been through? He’s hurting inside, much more than any other man.”
“What’s wrong with him?” Link asked.
“Link, I know Donovan better then anybody. When I’m around him, and we’re alone, he’s always on the brink of tears. He lost someone important to him a long time ago…and he blames the entire world for their death,” Alana said.
“So he’s willing to destroy the entire world because one person died?” Link asked, “That’s his justification?”
“No…he’s willing to destroy the world because there’s no reason for it to exist anymore. Link, have you seen the world through the eyes of a king? He saw his own friends in the Hylians betray him and his troops, for a failed attempt at destroying the Deity…He saw thousands of friends and family fall victim to the bombs placed in their inventory, and he could only watch as his men were shot down by Hylian archers,” Alana explained.
“That’s war! He retaliated for it by invading Hyrule, and allowing Ganondorf to assault Hyrule at the same time!” Link said.
“Yes…but do you know what happened after all of this? The Hylians still called us their friends…and it completely destroyed Donovan. He couldn’t understand how you could betray thousands of people and still call them your friends. It opened his eyes to the truth about the living. We have no true sense of morals anymore. Everything is about personal material gain, and not about the morals of love and honor. Donovan learned that the hard way,” Alana explained. Link lowered his head.
“So because of that, Donovan’s sentenced us to death? Even those who still care about morals are sentenced to death. Even his own race is sentenced to death?” Link asked, “Can he really justify the deaths of all those people?” Link asked.
“The one’s who lead good lives and still believe in the morals will be protected by the Goddesses Will!” Alana said.
“I’m sorry to break your heart, but there are no Goddesses that wants their people to die…The Goddesses Will won’t allow Donovan to do this, even if he believes that they chose him,” Link said.
“Link, why is it so hard to believe what Donovan says? You and him are a lot alike! You shouldn’t be fighting each other!” Alana pleaded.
“I have to stop Donovan…” Link said.
“Link, I understand his philosophy perfectly. I come from a place where a lack of morals killed my family. Donovan was the only one who came to me, and helped me. The Goddess have to be behind him…because the moment he came into my life…he’s been my angel…”
“Alana…I’m sorry, but this is something that has to be done. I cannot allow history to repeat itself. It’s as simple as that,” Link said.
“Simple? Really? C’mon Link, you should understand Donovan better than anybody. All of the races have abandoned reason and hope. They all have abandoned their gods…” Vexus said, “And for that, the Goddesses Will is going to judge all of existence…”
“So you’re another one who wants the entire world to suffer?” Link asked.
“No…I just want this age of uncertainty to be over…and if the world has to die to make people’s suffering go away, then I’ll gladly raise my spear in offering,” Vexus declared. He stood and left the clearing. Alana looked at Link while Link watched Vexus leave the clearing.
“There’s not always a right and a wrong…” Alana said.
“I know, it’s just hard to see where your motivation is coming from…” Link said.
“If you want to know all of my reasons, then I’ll tell you,” Alana said.
“Sure. It would help me sleep easier,” Link said.
“Okay, but I can’t tell you here. Have you heard about the ball Hyrule’s having in a few days?” Alana asked. Link shook his head, “In four days, Hyrule will be having a huge ball to celebrate the eve of the Demoball Finals.”
“Demoball? What’s that?” Link asked.
“Where have you been? It’s a very popular sport where two teams play each other on special shields that skid across a playing field. It’s addictive to watch. This week, the two best teams in the world, the Hyrule Lancers and the Palis Slayers. It’s a worldwide event, so representatives from across the globe will be attending this match, and of course, the Ball that precedes it. Master Donovan and the rest of the Kitapos won’t be attending, and the guards won’t notice me because they’ll be patrolling the grounds. I’ll just pull you into a dance and I’ll tell you everything you need to know,” Alana explained.
“Why are you doing all this?” Link asked.
“I’ll tell you that when you arrive. Remember, it’s in four days at sundown,” Alana informed. After that, Alana took Link by the hand and led him from the clearing after a moment of walking, they were at the spot where they first met, in front of the Happy Mask Shop.
“I’ll be waiting, okay?” Alana said. She winked, and ran off into a crowd of people. Link stared after her as she left. Avon hopped from Link’s left shoulder to his right.
“So, you’re really going to go?” Avon asked.
“Yeah, it’s for the best. Besides, we have some time to blow. I want to learn about this Demoball sport,” Link said.
“Yeah, it sounds fun. Besides, if a problem with the Kitapos arises, we’ll just strike them down!” Avon declared. Link smiled. He turned, preparing to leave, but all of a sudden, a hand came swinging for his face. Link leaned back to dodge it, and tried to see who was swinging at him. It was Pamela.
“Pamela, what are you doing?” Link yelled. She swung again, and this time her palm connected with the side of Link’s face. Link’s eyes widened in shock.
“You pig! How dare you pounce around with some other bitch! I won’t let you lead my friend on!” She screamed. Link’s face went red as she understood what Pamela said.
“Wait, it wasn’t like that! Honest, she was just telling me what I needed to hear!” Link said, while dodging another slap.
“Yeah, right, you filthy cheater!” Pamela screamed. Avon flew to Pamela’s shoulder. He calmly whispered something in her ear, and a look of shock crossed Pamela’s face.
“Link…that was a Kitapo?” Pamela asked.
“Yeah. That was their negotiator…she just does things in a really touchy-feely kind of way,” Link explained.
“Oh my Goddesses, I’m so sorry! I thought that she was some random girl!” Pamela exclaimed. Link smiled as Pamela understood.
“Yeah, she was just trying to set up a meeting date. She’s helping me,” Link said.
“Okay, that’s good. I was about to kill you! I thought that you were going to betray my best friend…” Pamela reasoned.
“Huh? Betray Malon?” Link asked.
“Yeah, when I got home and got changed, all she could do was talk about you. You two must have had one hell of a date yesterday,” Pamela explained.
“Really?” Link said, his face getting hotter and hotter.
“Yeah, she’s been gliding around the ranch like an angel,” Pamela confirmed.
“Wow…” Link muttered.
“It’s odd…Malon’s one of the best looking women in Hyrule, and yet she’s never even had a boyfriend. I’m glad that you have come into her life. Don’t make me regret those words, though,” Pamela said. She smiled, and began to leave the market. Link could only stare in wonder.
“Avon, I remember Malon telling me that Pamela’s old boyfriend died…and it seems odd that she’s single too,” Link said.
“What’s wrong?” Avon asked.
“I think that Pamela is feeding off of Malon’s happiness to fulfill her own wants. Avon…I don’t ever want to leave Malon like that. A walking prisoner to love,” Link said. He shook his head, and followed Pamela back to the ranch.

Chapter 11
The Man with the Green Hair (Lo’s Story, Part 1)
“I wonder what Zelda is up to.”
*********************************************************
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Zelda asked Impa, who rode across from her in the carriage. Zelda wore a slightly worried expression.
“Zelda, you’ve been so tense for the last few days. You need a break, and I heard that mountain climbing near Isali Village is the most relaxing activities out there,” Impa explained. Impa’s voice shared a motherly tone.
“How can it be so great? The village has only been around for two years,” Zelda asked.
“It’s been attracting attention…and people came out here to help, but ended up liking the living out here,” Impa said. The carriage hit a bump, but it only shook the two slightly. Zelda crossed her legs, feeling self-conscious.
“Impa, are you sure this is appropriate?” Zelda asked. Zelda wore a blue shirt that had the sleeves removed, and some brown shorts that barely reached the middle of her thighs. Her hair was pulled into a ponytail, keeping her long locks out of her face.
“Even our Hylian society have this taboo about clothing, Isali has been a very relaxed place on those issues. Women and men wear what they please, as long as it’s not excessive. You’ll fit right in,” Impa assured. Zelda sighed, and glanced out of the window of the carriage. The scenery of a flower-clothed valley sailed by the carriage, the sight of several snow covered mountains painted the distance.
“So what’s bringing so much attention to this place?” Zelda asked.
“A negative reason actually. This sight is the place of many different instances of violence. I know that you’ve heard of the Seven?” Impa asked.
“Yeah, they’re that large thieving ring that we’ve been dealing with,” Zelda replied.
“Yes…well, it seems that the Seven believe that Isali is theirs, and they’ve been attacking troops of this village. Hylian soldiers moved up here to help with retaliatory strikes, but liked the peacefulness of the village and had their families move here,” Impa explained.
“Wow…I never thought that would make a town grow,” Zelda said in awe. As she said that, the carriage slowed to a stop, and the sound a horse could be heard from the front of the carriage. Impa nodded, and opened the door of the carriage. Zelda stumbled out of the carriage, and laid eyes on Isali.
The village was similar to Karkariko, with cozy homes dotted around the area. Several tall watch towers were placed around the perimeter, but long streamers hung from them as decorations. A large fountain was placed in the center, and small pink fairies flew around the water. One tall building stood to the north of the town, apart from the rest of the town. It wasn’t cheerfully painted, it almost looked like a fort.
“Zelda, welcome to Isali,” Impa said. Zelda inhaled the sweet valley air.
“Wow, this place has come along well for it being so young,” Zelda commented with a smile. Zelda began to scan the town, but a young Hylian guard approached her.
“Princess Zelda, is it?” The guard asked. Zelda nodded, “It is an honor to host Her Highness in a beautiful Village of Isali…but a more pressing matter needs royal attention,” The guard informed.
“What has happened?” Zelda said after a sigh.
“Twelve hours ago, our northern defenses were attacked by the Seven. They fought to kill, and had us surrounded…but out of nowhere, some weird man waltzed onto the battlefield as if nothing was wrong. A Seven Soldier fired an arrow and cut into his cape, and he drew a sword and fought back an entire Seven squadron by himself,” The guard explained. A look of disbelief crossed Zelda’s face.
“How can one man fight an entire force of enemies?” Zelda asked.
“He used some kind of magic. He swung his sword onto some circle of light, and every enemy in the area passed out. It was incredible to watch…and when the battle was over, he allowed us to escort him back to home base”
“Okay, I see the situation, but I don’t see how that should require my assistance,” Zelda stated.
“He asked us to help him find his friend…but none of know anyone who fits the descriptions he’s been giving…and we’re slightly afraid that if we don’t help him, he may attack us,” the guard explained.
“Well, I’ll speak to him. Take me to him, if you may,” Zelda instructed. The guard led Zelda through the town, all the way to the tall building in the north of the village. When they arrived at the building, the guards opened the door, and led Zelda through several dark hallways until they reached a room that was guarded by two tough looking guards. The guards parted and allowed Zelda to enter. The guard who escorted Zelda wanted to enter, but Zelda waved him back. She wanted to speak to this man alone.
Inside, the room was well lit. A man sat a table, heating on a loaf of bread that was in front of him. He was slightly startling. His clothes were mad of the finest silky material, all of it was a blue-green hue. He wore a sword on his back, with a decorative golden sheathe. His hair is what startled Zelda. It was a deep green color, with several blue highlights. His eyes were also green. When he finished his bread, he looked up at Zelda with a smile. He looked so peaceful, yet so unique.
And when he smiled at Zelda, she felt her heart skip a few beats.
Zelda sat across from him, and eyed him sheepishly.
“So, I guess that you’re Princess Zelda, ya?” the man asked. Zelda jumped slightly, caught off guard by his correct assumption. His voice had an islander accent to it.
“Yes…how did you know that?” Zelda asked.
“A young woman, about 5’8” with long blonde hair, beautiful, and has a tendency to be very quiet at first meetings. Zelda is accompanied by a Shiekah that responds to the name Impa, and who has played the role of mother for Zelda,” the man described.
“How do you know all of that?” Zelda asked, slightly spooked.
“I do a lot of research where I come from. Besides, it’s only customary to want to know about someone you’re supposed to marry,” the man said,
“I’m Lo Adante of Ymaris Kootaru.”
A look of shock passed through Zelda’s face.
“You’re the richest man in the world! Heir to the Kootaru fortune and traveling nobleman!” Zelda exclaimed. She then remembered the rest of his statement, “And you’re the man that I was supposed to marry, according to my father,” Zelda sighed.
“I take it that the idea doesn’t interest you?” Lo asked.
“It’s not that, it’s just I couldn’t get over the face that my father sold me for a treaty with your country. I was so mad at him when I found out. I never knew that I would actually meet you, though,” Zelda said.
“I knew that I would meet you one day. It seemed destined. Besides, the whole marriage idea is completely conditional. We would have to agree of our own free will because of my departure from my home country. If we were to marry, it would be of love, not a treaty. Sounds better, ya?” Lo said with a laugh.
“Much. So, what brings you here?” Zelda asked with a smile. She was surprised by his relaxed attitude. It was also odd that he remember the engagement.
“I was looking for my best friend. I’m sure that he lives in Hyrule, so I came here to look for him,” Lo said.
“Who’s your friend?” Zelda asked.
“It’s hard to describe him…” Lo said, with a slightly puzzled look.
“Well, tell me what you remember,” Zelda said.
“He’s about my height, with sleek hair. He’s got blue eyes, and is talented with a sword,” Lo said.
“That doesn’t really help…Why have you come looking for him?” Zelda asked.
“Me and him survived our training together, and I came to make sure that he’s okay,” Lo said.
“What does that mean?” Zelda asked.
“It’s a long story, and I have to help the Hylian soldiers defend the town tonight,” Lo said.
“It’s okay. Nightfall is hours away,” Zelda said with a smile, “Tell me you long story.”
“Okay. I trust that you’ve heard about Caldalbog, right?” Lo asked.
“No…what is Caldalbog?” Zelda asked.
“It was a city so large, it was it’s own independent nation. It was also the most technologically advanced city in the world. It had tall buildings, about forty times the height of a house, and those where the normal buildings. People had lights without fire, I believe they called it electricity. Men and women could wear and do as they please, much like my own country. It was a utopia,” Lo described.
“Wow…I would like to see it one day,” Zelda said dreamily.
“It would have been nice if I could have taken you there…but Caldalbog no longer stands. It’s the reason I fear for my friend’s safety. You understand, ya?” Lo said.
“Oh, that’s terrible. How did it happen?” Zelda asked.
“It all started with my friends…one was a woman, who was so beautiful that it felt like time stopped when in her presence. She was the most popular woman in all of Caldalbog, and she carried her self with an unparalleled grace. Her name was Andia. She was out one day, walking through the woods, when she stumbled upon the remains of a man. He was on the brink of death, slashes and burns tattered his body. He looked up at Andia, and in a act of heroism, Andia healed the man with an experimental healing drink, called Gold Elixir. The man healed over time, and Andia led him back to the city. He arrived, and after a moment of wonder, learned the dark side of Caldalbog. He was attacked by a man who knew nothing about hygiene. That attacker attempted to kill the man, but the man showed an incredible strength and struck down the man. The man was faced with the choice to kill the attacker, but chose to let him live,” Lo explained.
“This man sounds incredible…is he the friend you’re looking for?” Zelda asked.
“Yes. My friend’s victory meant more than a normal fight, mainly because of a spectator that watched. His name was Master Jevulis Chong. He was the leader of the Caldian Strike school, the most revered fighting academy in the world, besides Palis, of course...Master saw my friend's true potential and offered him a space in the school on the spot...and the man who tried to attack my friend couldn't bear it. He fell in disbelief, and ran away, plotting a sinister revenge," Lo took a deep breath.
"Do you mind telling me your friend's name?" Zelda asked. Lo smiled.
"His name is Link. I guess knowing his name will make the rest of the story easier to tell..." He said. He laughed aloud, but Zelda was caught in a shock. She looked at Lo anxiously, wanting to hear the rest of her brother's story.
"Well, as things worked out, Link and I met. We were both in this training school, and we ended up living together to satisfy the frist semester of training. At first, we had to distance ourselves away from the general public, so that we could concentrate on bringing forth auras. I was naturally able to bring an aura out, but it was harder for Link. He seemed to have problems holding on to an emotion to summon the energy of his aura. Then, one day, out of the blue, he told me that he missed Andia...and during the final training session, he summoned a grand green aura. Link transcended all expextations...and became the first Hylian to summon an aura, and all because of a of a girl that he only knew for a few days.
"Link and me saw Andia when the first two years of our training was over. She had planned to jump out of an ally and scare Link, but that never happened. That man who attacked Link, along with another, more powerfu man, were over her, wanting to rape her. Me and Link tried to fight them, but the second guy made quick work of us. It was only by miracle that we all came out of that alive and well. Andia was spared, but the other man vowed to show us, along with Caldalbog no mercy. Strange fellow, he was, Ya?
"Well, afterwards, Link and Andia had a week to themselves. I know that during that week, Link came out and told Andia his confusing feelings. They became part of each other. The only time Link seemed truly happy is when she was around...
"After a two more years of training, Link and me graduated. I bid my farewell to Link, and I told him that i would come visit him and Andia. Link was fighting the decision to stay in Caldalbog with Andia when i left. about an hour later, i heard a huge explosion. WHen i ran back to Caldalbog, everything was destroyed, and i found Andia's scarf in a pool of blood...I knew that the powerful man had done it...and I knew that Link had left to fight him. I left, because there was nothing left for me...Imagin my surprise when i found out that Link had returned to Hyrule! I decided i would take the scenic mountain route and visit him that way," Lo took a deep breath.
"So, is this where you story ends?" Zelda asked.
"Pretty much. I came down the valley and helped out the Hylian guards. It was easy, the techniques of the Caldian Strike style are made for those situations. The only other person who can do them correctly is Link," Lo said.
"Wow...i didn't know he had been through so much," Zelda muttered.
"Wait, you know Link?" Lo asked.
"Of course. Between you and me, he's my brother," Zelda told Lo.
"Really? I can see a resemblence," Lo said. Zelda blushed at the comment.
"So I look like a guy?" Zelda asked, with mock anger.
"No, you look like a beautiful woman who can't act," Lo said. Once again, Zelda blushed.
"So, can i make you an offer?" Zelda asked.
"Sure, i'll marry you anytime," Lo said with a laugh.
"No, not that! I wanted to ask you to guard this town tonight, and tomorrow morning, me and Impa will take you to see Link," Zelda offered.
"Perfect. I'll gladly partake in that. Besides, i don't like these Seven theives very much. They're so primative," Lo said.
"Good...I don't want to be a bother, so i'll excuse myself," Zelda said, bowing her head. Lo stood with a welcoming smile.
"I would like it if you stayed until it was time for me to patrol, if it was okay with you. I would love to continue our conversations..." Lo said. Zelda blushed once agian and looked away.
"Um...I don't think that would be to appropriate," Zelda said.
"Zelda, it's always good to forget what other's are saying. I want to speak with you because you're an interesting and beatutiful woman, and i think that we could have a lot in common. If any outsiders say different, at least you'll know the truth," Lo said, in a more serious tone. Zelda looked at Lo once again, in his green eyes. She saw something in them, and knew that she couldn't leave until she knew what she saw.
"I'll stay then...okay?"
