Chapter One
Link's Life
The sunlight shone through a small window into the empty basement. Link opened his eyes. He had slept in and was going to get yelled out for not doing his sunrise chores.
"It's not my fault," he thought to himself," I have to do midnight chores also. Why does he expect me to wake up so early if I'm up so late."
There was a loud noise coming from upstairs. Someone opened the basement door.
"Link! Get up NOW! You're so lazy! Get up and do your chores," boomed his fathers voice.
"Yes sir," Link replied back with his dry voice.
"Don't talk! I said get up not to talk back! No breakfast for you this mourning," the voice shouted. Link frowned and let out a small whimper. Last night since he had woken up his father from accidently dropping a big bucket of water down the marble stairs he had no dinner either. He also didn't have lunch from yesterday or breakfast, for not scrubbing the walls the right way. He was so hungry. He sighed and small tears dripped down his face.
Why was he fated to live with this man and why didn't the man just send him to the orphanage if he hated him so much. Why did he have to live in this hell. Link never knew of the treasures of growing up either. When he was four this man adopted him. What was worse was that he had an annoying daughter and son. The girl was prissy and annoying. She always teases him about being so disgusting and ugly too. He began to believe her too. When he was sent out to do an errand people looked at him funny. What he didn't know was that they were looking at his clothes which were torn and dirty from cleaning for so long. His son would kick him in his side imitating his father.
He stood up and wiped away his tears and grabbed a rag and bucket from his closet. He walked up the stairs and went into the kitchen and out the backdoor. He wasn't looking where he was going and bumped into his father. Link looked up.
His father was a very menacing man. Dark skinned, and red haired with a long nose and bushy eyebrows. He was a retired theif from Gerudo valley. He came to live Kakariko village and settled down with a wife. That wife was Link's mother. Back then his step father was really nice, and she knew Link needed a father since his real one died in the war. So it was done. Link mother, Kaida, married the retired Gerudo Theif, Ganondorf. With him he brought two children. Gabrielle and Gareth. Mysteriously however, Kaida died of a sickness. Where the sickness orginated from was unknown.
Ganondorf looked down on the scared blue eyed blonde haired boy. He pushed him down.
"Watch where you're going, you're not getting lunch today either. Stupid boy," he said and walked off.
Link sighed. Will this ever end, he thought. He stood up and went over to the water pump and pumped out water into the bucket, while at the same time washing off his dirty face.
He heard a scream from inside the house.
"Who's using the cold water!" a girl screamed. Link grimaced.
"Oh no," he thought to himself. Apparently Gabrielle was taking a shower. When he pumped the water, all cold water running to the house ceased leaving only the hot water. A girl with long black hair and yellow eyes came running outside wrapped in a white robe. She ran up to Link.
"I'm sorry Ga-," he was stopped short with a slap in the face.
"You festering carcass of rotting dog! How dare you! You know I always take a shower at this time of day," she complained.
"Miss you usually take a shower at night though," Link responded trying to be polite.
"Don't back talk me you inbicile! I'm going to tell daddy! He won't let you eat dinner tonight once he finds out about this, haha," she said and walked back inside the house. Link looked at the ground sadly. This just wasn't fair.
After mourning chores were done Link sat outside away from the people inside his house. This house was suppose to be rightfully his, but in his mothers will, it said to give everything to Ganondorf. Mom would have never have done that, but it happened. Link sighed and looked at himself. Why didn't he just end it all, why didn't he just try to run away. Something always held him back and that was his memory of his mom. He heard the back door open and Gareth walked outside. The boy was dark skinned like his father and had red hair. His was long and not bushy, tyed in the back. Link thought he was ugly even though Gareth always boasted about how the girls always swarmed him and not Link. Link never left his house unless he was sent out to do something and Gareth never came with. So Link wasn't sure if this was entirely true. The only reason why girls would swarm him was because Gareth always had money that his father gave him.
"I heard you're not getting any meals today Link," Gareth snickered. Link looked at Gareth with an angry face. Link wanted so much to just ran up and punch the boys lights out, but he knew he wasn't going to be able to. If he tried Link would be tied up and Gareth was allowed to do anything he wanted to do to Link. Link knew this because he actually did punch Gareth once, and only once. However that didn't seem to stop Gareth from always punching and kicking him all the time.
"So," Link replied. Gareth laughed.
"You didn't get anything yesterday either did you?" Gareth asked. Link looked at the ground to his side.
"So tell me how does it feel when I do this?!" Gareth said as he punched Link in the stomache. Gareth backed away and saw Link fall to his knees. Link threw up a yellow liquid since nothing was in his stomache.
"Ha ha! Awe poor little Linky hungry?" Gareth teased and laughed as he walked away. Link's eyes drooped and his head spun.
"Oh man... I hate it here," he groaned.

Chapter Two
The Princess
Link snuck outside out back as quiet as a mouse. He had finished his chores and was going to meet Saria tonight. Saria said if he ever needed help he could come to her. Usually the only help he needed was food. He walked out of Kakariko village and towards the forest. Link huffed and puffed from exaustion and malnutrition.
He finally reached her house. It was a nice little cottage just inside the forest. He knocked on the door. It was silent.
"She must be sleeping," he said to himself. He knocked again a little bit louder.
"Hold on I'll be right there," Saria said from inside. She looked out her window to see it was only Link. She grabbed a robe and opened the door. When she did he almost fell inside.
"Oh goodness!" she exclaimed and helped him up. She sat him down at a table and started to boil some water. She went to her cabinents and took out a bag. She opened the bag and put some nuts on a plate. She went to her window and uncovered the pie she made today. She knew Link might have come today so she made this just in case. She handed to plate to Link with a fork and Link looked up at her with thankful face.
"Thank you so Saria," he said in between mouthfuls.
"Don't worry about it. I made that just for you anyways," Saria replied. She went to the stove to see her water boiling. She poured the water into two cups and put a tea pouch in each and let it stall there for a few moments. She took the tea over to Link and put it beside his plate. He grabbed the drink without thinking and gulped it down, burning his throat.
"Ahh this is howt," he said sticking out his tounge. Saria giggled.
"Well yes. Water usaully is hot when it's boiled," she replied. He smiled at her. It wasn't the first time he burnt his mouth without thinking.
"So what happened? You didn't get any food today?" Saria asked. Link shook his head and held up to fingers while drinking his tea some more.
"Two days?! Oh I'm so sorry Link. Why does that father of yours treat you so horribly?" she asked angrily. Link shrugged.
"I don't know. I sometimes think about running away, but I just can't. I can still feel my mom living in that house," Link said," I'd hate to leave her." Saria nodded and understood.
"I know.. I just wish I could do something to help," she sighed. Link looked up at her with shock.
"Help!? Saria what you're doing right now helps out alot. If it wasn't for you then I'd probably starve," Link said. Saria smiled.
"Yes but you've helped me out so much, I only feel like it right that I do this for you," Saria said.
"You helped me build this house and taught me how to cook," she continued," if it wasn't for you I wouldn't be living at all." Link shrugged.
"Well what was I suppose to do? You looked so helpless," he joked. Saria and Link laughed.
"Well I have to get going, before they notice I'm gone. Thank you so much Saria," he said hugging her on the way out.
The sun rose and Link got up in time to do his chores. So this mourning he was able to eat breakfast.
"Well looks like you finally decided to act like a normal person instead of some uncivillized beast," Ganondorf said. Link nodded.
"Well I need you to go out in town for me to recieve somethings. You need to buy some arching and swordsman supplies, along with a poster from the bulletin board."
Link nodded and put the money in his pocket and headed out right away.
"Finally I can get out," Link exclaimed as he ran through the sunlight happily. He went into the town market and recieved the arching equipment and swordsman supplies, at a low low price due to his hagglings skills.
"Wow I have 70 rupees left over," Link said happily," I'll just give Ganondorf 20 and say that the merchants were being sour today." Link smiled mischeviously. He knew he'd get yelled at for not being able to haggle but he wouldn't get in too much trouble.
He walked up to the bulletin board and tore off the poster that talked about the competetion in the castle. Link didn't care to much about it. There didn't seem to be anything worth getting out of it.
"Wow a date with a princess," he said mockingly," Gabrielle isn't even half as rich as the princess and I can't stand her snobbiness. Why would I want to date someone like that?" Link took his shortcut through the alley.
He heard someone screaming and got curious. He turned the corner and saw two tall scrawny men picking on a girl in a white hooded cloak.
"Go away! You'll regret it," the girl shouted.
"Heh heh, come on sweet cheeks, give us a little peek," the first man said.
"Yah, just a little feel up heh heh heh," the second man said.
"Go away! Ahhh Someone help," the girl screamed.
"Hey you creeps get away from her!" Link shouted holding up a sword. The two turned around.
"Oh look! It's a little peasant come to save the damsel in distress. Let's get him," the first man said. The two men ran towards Link and jumped at him. Link rolled underneath them and kicked them to the ground. Link held up a silver sheild as they turned around. The second man ran after Link. With a thrust Link bashed the man's face with the shield, leaving him uncouncious. The first man ran up and tryed to kick him, but Link just jumped and smacked the mans face with the flat side of the sword. He raised his arm and hit the mans head with the sword handle.
The girl looked up at Link.
"Oh he's so brave," the girl thought to herself. Link turned around. The girl blushed looking into Link's beautiful ice blue eyes.
"You alright miss," he said bluntly. She nodded.
"Yes, uh thank you," she said nervously.
"You shouldn't being walking alone around here, there are alot of creeps," he said picking up his stuff.
"You do really well with that sword. Are you coming to the competetion?" the girl asked.
"No I'm not," he replied.
"Why not," she asked. Link just shrugged not wanting to offend anyone. Everyone loved princess Zelda.
The girl removed her hood and Link was taken aback by the girls beauty. She had long waving golden hair, and deep blue eyes.
"Oh please come," she pleaded," It will be so exciting." Link nodded not thinking.
"Oh thank you," the girl said and ran up and kissed Link's cheek," That's for saving me and coming to the competetion." Link blushed.
"Ah.. your welcome miss," Link said quietly.
"Just because I'm princess doesn't mean you have to be formal with me," the girl replied. Link eyes widened with shock.
This was the princess?! He almost couldn't believe her, but something in her voice told him she was telling the truth.
"uh...ok..Zelda," Link said coughing. Zelda smiled and covered her head again.
"Well I must be off, daddy will be worried about me," Zelda replied and ran off. Link touched his cheek.

Chapter Three
The Goddess
"No! You are not going!" Ganondorf yelled.
"Why not! It says all men from ages 16 through 20 are all permitted to go," Link shouted back. Ganondorf raised his hand slapped Link hard in the face making him fall on the ground.
"Don't you yell at me you impudent little boy," he said kicking Link hard in the side. Link coughed and heaved trying to breath again. Link looked up Ganondorf with a look of hatred.
"I hate you," Link said almost growling.
"What was that," Ganondorf picking up the boy by his throat. Link gasped for air then looked down at Ganondorf.
"I said I hate you! I hope you die a slow tortures death in a firey abyss of hell you monster," Link shouted letting out all his anger. Ganondorf gritted his teeth and tightened his grip on the boys neck. Link began to felt dizzy from the lack of air. He could see blackness close in on his vision. Ganondorf stomped towards the basement door carrying Link like a rag doll dragging him on the floor. He opened the door and sat Link in front of the stairs and then kicked him making him tumble down the stairs.
Link layed there at the bottom the stairs, his face, arms, and legs bruised from the stone stairs.
"You're staying down there with no food and no water, until you can learn your place in this family boy," Ganondorf shouted locking the door. Link just layed there.
"Mom where are you...Please help me," he whispered. He sat up and walked over to his moth eaten matress and layed down. He covered his face and began to cry.
Two days passed. It was the morning of the day the competetion was to begin. Link walked up the stairs trying to open the door. But no avail, it was still locked.
"This will teach you to yell at me," he could hear Ganondorf on the other side. Link sighed and walked back down the stairs and layed on his bed. He heard the carriage leave the front of his house.
"They must be gone now, good good! I need to get to work," said a voice from the darkness. Link looked up.
"Who's there," Link said in a dry voice. A girl stepped out of the darkness. She was short and child like. She had green hair in odangos. She wore a skirt and short sleeve shirt. Her shirt was green with gold trimming as so was her skirt.
"Hi, I'm Faore," the girl said. Link raised an eyebrow.
"Puh-lease, your telling me that your the goddess Faore? The goddess of courage?" Link said unbelievingly. The girl nodded and pointed her finger at his bed. A zap of light came out and on the bed appeared a plate of food. Link's eyes widened. He began to stuff his face.
"Eat up, you need to be ready for the competetion," Faore said.
"But I'mot goito thompetetion," he said with a full mouth.
"Oh yes you are. With a help of a little magic I can bring your destiny to you," Faore said.
"My destiny?" Link asked between gulps of milk.
"Yes it's your destiny to win that competetion," Faore said," However, hee hee, not in those clothes."
Link looked down at his rags and blushed emabarassed.
Faore twirled around making a wind blow in the room. It surrounded Link making him glow green. He was standing there with the coolest outfit he had ever seen.
He had long red pants and a red tunic, on his back he wore a black cape and on his head was a black cap. His boots were dark brown and very comfortable. He also noticed that his bruises were gone. He was also clean!
"Wow this is awesome!" Link said happily.
Faore nodded in approval.
"Now for your equipment," she said while drawing cute little glowing figures in the air. It was a little bow and a quiver of arrows. The pictures burst with light and in Link's hand a black bow with entricate designs appeared. A quiver of arrows strapped to his back also appeared.
"Now take a sword," Faore said. On his side a sheath with a sword appeared. On his back a shield appeared also.
"Well you certainly look like a great hero to me," Faore said," but just one more touch to add that mysteriousness."
She walked over to him and waved her hand over his eyes, appeared there a mask.
"How am I going to get out of here?" Link said worried. Faore snapped her fingers and with a flash they were in front of Hyrule castle.
"Well.... That solves that problem," Link said blankly.
"Now remember my magic only last until sundown, when the first star appears in the sky at dusk, my magic will wear off, ok?" Faore warned. Link nodded.
"Yes ma'am," he said.
As oddly she appeared in the first place, the goddess disappeared.

Chapter Four
The Competetion
Horns blew signaling only five minuets left for signing up. Link ran up to the signup table and ran right into Gareth.
"Ouch, s-sorry," Link said frantically scared that Gareth might find him out.
"Watch it man," Gareth said meanly and walked off. Link walked up to the sign up table and signed his name as "Mask" on the sheet.
He walked over to the bench to await his turn, when he saw Princess Zelda sitting in a seat next to her father. Everyman was going up and bowing to the princess before they sat down. The princess looked sad for some reason. She sighed.
"I guess he's not coming," she said to herself.
Link walked up to her and bowed.
"Hello, good luck in the competetion," she said monotoniously. He looked up and grabbed her hand gently.
"Thank you m'lady," he said looking into her eyes. He kissed her hand and gave her wink. The princess blushed.
"What a handsome man," she thought to herself. Those eyes, those beautiful ice blue eyes. The man she saw on the street was in rags though, could this man possibly be the brave one who saved her three days ago?
Link took his seat on the bench next to his step brother Gareth.
In the competetion were three challenges. An archery challenge, a sword fight, and a race. Link smiled. This was going to be fun.
When the first man went up and aimed his bow Ganondorf from the crowd waved his hand. The man slipped as he shot his bow and missed the target completly. There were boos from the crowd. The man stepped away in sorrow. The next three men who went up suffered the same fate one way or another, whether it be slipping or catching a bug in there eye, there was always something. Then it was Gareth's turn. He shot and it almost hit perfectly, right on the edge of the bullseye.
"Niched it! 90 points!" an announcer shouted.
Gareth walked away smiling smugly. Link gulped, he knew his step father was at work here. Link stood up for his turn and pulled out an arrow and nervously put it on the bow. He aimed. Something under his foot made him slip. He hadn't fired yet so while aiming on sitting down he shot the bow.
"BullsEye! 100 points for Mask!" shouted the announcer. Link smiled. Gareth looked up in the crowd and gave his father a mean look who right back gave him a nasty glare.
Next was the sword fighting competetion. Since in the first competetion, the men who made a bad score were disqualified only Gareth and Link were left. They stood in the circle facing each other. A drum sound boomed signaling to start. Gareth and Link circled each other. Ganondorf waved his hand again, Link began to feel off balance. Gareth thrusted his shield pushing Link onto the ground outside of the rope.
"Gareth is the winner! 100 points!" shouted the announcer. Link looked up at Gareth evily.
The last competetion was coming close and so was sunset. Link hoped he could finish this in time. Link stood beside Gareth crouched down.
"1, 2, 3, RUN," the announcer shouted. Link and Gareth sped off.
Link was first then Gareth, then Link. Link could see the red banner, he was going to win! However Ganondorf had other plans for the mysterious boy. He waved his hand and a root came out of the ground making Link trip. He saw Gareth run past him as he fell.
"Gareth is the WINNER," the annoucer shouted. Link stood up and wiped the dirt away from his face.
"Hold it!," shouted the princess," There is black magic at work here, Gareth is disqualifed for interference with the crowd!"
Everyone booed at them as Gareth, Gabrielle, and Ganondorf were forced to leave.
Princess Zelda walked up to Link.
"Congradulations Mr Mysterious... You've won," she said looking again into his beautiful eyes. Link smiled.
"So am I going to be able to know who is my knight?" she asked. Link grinned and reached for his mask.
"My magic wears off at sunset, when the first star appears at dusk," a voice echoed in his head.
"Oh no," he said. The princess gave him a confused look. He turned around and ran away.
"Wait come back please," she shouted after him, but to no avail he was too far off.
She ran after him, but could no longer see the man. She looked down sadly. A surprise to her eyes for she saw the mans black cap. She picked it up and hugged it.
"I'll find you," she said to herself.
Link ran into his house just before the carriage got there. He unlocked the door and closed it. He ran down the stairs and layed on his bed.
His nice clothes disappeared along with his equipment.
"At least I don't have hide anything," he said to himself.
The front door opened and walked in everyone. People walked passed the basement door. Someone stopped at his door.
"Oh no," Link said to himself," the doors unlocked."
"LINK!!!" Ganondorf shouted slamming open the basement door.
"I'm going to get it," Link grimaced.

Chapter Five
The Lost Cap
Everywhere you would see a poster there was for the missing winner of the competetion. Impa Zelda's nursemaid was traveling around trying to fit every man with blue eyes this black cap that belonged to the winner.
"Everyone quick get ready, Impa is coming," Ganondorf said," You! Get into your basement NOW!" Link ran down into basement, but not before he jammed the lock.
There was a knock on the upstairs front door.
"Come in come in," Gabrielle said politely. Link heard the door open and some more foot steps.
"Good afternoon, sorry to have bothered you, but do you have any 17-18 year olds here with blue eyes?" said a strong womans voice.
"Uh no ma'am but there is my son Gareth you see," Ganondorf said.
"Hmm you are the ones who cheated weren't you?" Impa asked.
"Uh..." Ganondorf replied," Just let him try on the cap at least."
"I intend too, this is the last house," Impa said.
"Ah come on this thing is too small, get it off me," Gareth shouted.
"Alright then," Impa replied," I guess he's not here either. Thank you for your time I must be off."
"Wait!" Link shouted bursting out his door. Ganondorf grabed him by the collar.
"What do you thinkyour doing!" Ganondorf shouted," Get back into the basement!"
"No wait! By order of the king every man with blue eyes must try on this cap," Impa ordered. Ganondorf let go Link.
LInk walked up to Impa and kneeled down. She place the cap on his head perfectly>
"It fits! You were him!" Gareth shouted.
"Link by order of the king and princess you are to come with me," Impa said.
Ganondorf growled.
Link finally was able to leave that dreadful place.
Him and Zelda went on many dates, and fell in love.
They were so happy with each other that they married.
After they were married, Link found his mothers Will. He kicked Ganondorf and his two off spring out of his house.
Link and Zelda lived happily ever after.
