Not Yet A Hero by Incognito
Finally it was closing time and Link couldnt be anymore tired. It had been a long busy day and he still had alot of homework to do when he got home.
"Hey Malon are you done so I can walk you home?"
She ran through the door and grabbed him by the arm, rushing out the door.
The moon was full and high in the sky, out-shining the stars.
Link stared at his feet with his hands in his pockets.
Malon gave him a few side glances wondering if he was thinking about 'HER'.
"Link, I was wondering something."
He looked up at her and she felt her heartbeat get fast.
They stopped at her door and he stood there waiting for her to talk.
She leaned over and said "Goodnight and nevermind my question. It's nothing." She walked into her house a tear rolling down her cheek in frustration that she'd lost her nerve.
Link stared after curious at what had just occurred.
"Women."
He walked off letting his mind wander for a bit not really paying any attention to where he was going until he was on his back on the ground.
"Hey Link watch where your going."
Link dusted himself off as he got a look at who'd knocked him to the floor.
"Why are you out so late Ganon?"
"I was going to see a man about a horse."
Link knew that usually meant he was going to harass some girl to go on a date with him.
"Good luck with that Ganon." He started to walk away.
"Come with me buddy."
Link sighed heavily and knew it would be a long night.
They walked into the wealthiest area of Hyrule though all of Hyrule looked rich.
"Who is the 'lucky' lady?"
Ganon smiled to himself imagining the look on her face when he asked her to the annual dance festival.
"No one special."
Link looked at him suspiciously, noticing that his behavior lately had been rapidly changing.
He'd been lashing out alot for things so small that people had to watch their p's and q's now around him. So it was better he went with him just in case.
They finally arrived at the house, which looked to be the most extravagant in hyrule.
"This is where she lives?"
Ganon ignored him and and rang the bell repeatedly as he waited impatiently for an answer.
"It's kind of late."
Ganon's eyes lit up when he heard her voice.
"Let me in I need to ask you something."
"Ganon?"She sounded surprised. "I'll come to the gate."
He paced back and forth while Link stared in shock at the girl Ganon had disturbed.
Her eyes met his for a moment then focused on Ganon.
"What is it Ganon?" She stood a bit far from the gate but kept her sweet demeanor.
"Zelda, I would like to escort you to the Dance."
She bit down on her lip and shifted her weight from left to right contemplating her answer, not wanting to say no immediately.
Ganon stared without once breaking eye contact. Sensing her hesitation he looked to Link for assistance.
"We can all go together as a group thing. I can bring my friend Malon, then there'd be four of us." Link splurted out.
She looked away from Ganon to smile at Link.
"That sounds okay. So pick me up at 6 o'clock."
Ganon kept his cool and waved goodbye after agreeing with the terms.
"Great idea buddy" He clapped down hard on Links shoulder.
"Well i'm going to go get some shut eye. We have a big day coming." he sauntered off happily.
Link shook his head and looked back at Zelda's house. In the moonlight she looked so beautiful and it seemed so familiar.
Atleast he'd saved her from having to deal with Ganon if she'd said no.
"In a way I was a Hero but not really..." He said aloud and laughed. He knew it was going to be an interesting dance.
He arrived at his apartment and called Malon before he forgot.
"Hey Malon."
"Link? What's up?"
"Well I was wondering if you wanted to go to the dance festival with me and two other people."
She was smiling on the other end, allowing a few seconds to pass before she said yes. "Wow. Yes I'd love to."
"Great. I'll pick you up a quarter to 6."
"Okay. Goodnight Link" She floated to her bed.
"Night Malon." He hung up.
He turned on the television and lay in his bed waiting for sleep to come. His last thoughts were of Zelda before he drifted into a sound sleep.
