The Legend of Zelda: Deception of Shadows by JJS
Hidden deep in the lost wood, that only the most well guided people could find, lived a small tribe of Skull people. These people had lived here since the dawn of time and had been left, undisturbed, by the outside world. They grew and developed their own unique way of life. "Maka, come here.” screamed a tall adult Skull person. “I need to speak with you”. "Yes Father?" asked an older looking boy as he emerging from within a group of other Skull boys. "Now Maka, I don’t want you to get tired today. You know this is a day of most importance! Today, you become a man! Or would you rather not under go the trials and be outcast by the elders? The outcasts just aimlessly wonder thought out the woods, with no perpose in life. Do you want to end up like that?" said Maka's father. “You must learn to live without all of these childish games." "Yes, sir" said the boy, with a look of disappointment on his face. "I will allow you to play with them later, but your training is of the highest importance. Now go!"
The boy tried to step around his father but he stopped him once again and said "Maka, turn and take a good look at our village, for I feel that this will be the last time you get to see out great village." So Maka turned and look out at his massive village and he saw huts that were made out of large tree branches, but they were beutifly made for the Villagers had no way to cement them together, so each house had each stick carefully and tightly weaved into one another, so every house was unique in the way it was woven. He saw children playing in the dirt paths playing without a care in the world, he saw husbands working on houses making them better for there families and wives watching over there kids making sure they don't get hurt or too tired."Ok Maka now it is time for you to continue your training" so he continued on into a back room.
In the beck room he picked up a large sword that seemed to be made out of bone. The sheath also seemed to be made out of a bone like material, as was the shield next to it. After this, he approached a primitive type of Bow with a Quiver full of arrow by the side of it. He examined them for a moment and then picked them up one after another. He then approached a dummy in the centre of the room. He unsheathed the bone like sword. As he was about to swing, his father walked in. “You have out grown this dummy. Now, it is time for you to fight a real opponent."
His father unsheathed a sword that seemed to be made out of the same bone material as the sword Maka held in his hand, but this blade had a florescent green design on the side. He also pulled out a shield with the same florescent green design on its face. "Are you ready?" asked the boy’s father. Maka Paused then nodded. "Then let us fight." As his father charged at him, thoughts of doubt passed through Maka’s mind. "What if he is to strong for me?" His father stopped his attack and spoke. "Son, those thoughts of doubt you have are normal, but they will not help you here or in future tasks." Maka nodded and showed that he was ready. The feeling of doubt he had was now gone.
His father back flipped away from him and once again charged, this time with no intent to stop. Maka blocked it with his shield, but was knocked a bit off balance. Because of this, he had little time to react to his father’s next swing. He rolled around his father and swung. However, his father back flipped over Maka, and swung again. Maka spun around in mid-air to deflect the attack with his sword. As he landed, he back flipped away and pulled out his bow. He shot a primitive type of arrow at him, but his father used his shield to stop it. Just as his father was about to attack again, a loud, deep horn sounded throughout the entire town. "Son... it is time; head to the town square. I will meet you there, but before you go, remember… do not let your doubts control you. You do what you must." Maka told his father, "Yes sir." Then ran off to finally meet his destiny and become a man.
As Maka reached the town square, an old man approached him and put his hand on his shoulder, "Maka this will be a hard journey for you, but if you complete it you will finally be a man". The old man removed his hand and headed to the very centre of the town square. A deep bellowing voice erupts from the old man "WE ARE ALL HERE TODAY TO WATCH THESE TWO YOUNG MEN TAKE THIS JOURNEY AND FINNALY BECOME MEN". As the man continued to speak Maka looked around for the other boy, he though he was the only one to take this sacred journey on that day, but Maka attention is abruptly turned to his father who ran through the crown to get to him. "Maka take this" His father handed him the sword and shield with the florescent green designs on it. "This is the sword that I went through my own journey with, and I want you to have it. Use it. I sharpened it for you. This blade can do more than what meets the eye". Maka smiled. "Thank you, father". A loud roar came from the people as they screamed and cheered for them, for now they must leave for the Cave.
As they approached the cave entrance the old man screamed, "This will be a hard journey, but if the will of the warrior is in you, you will finally be an adult. Once you enter the cave you must go deep into the bowels, and destroy the monster that lay hidden, now go" Maka and another the other young boy were then pushed into the cave. They fell down through a drop in the floor. They hit the ground but were still both okay. The little boy spoke,"H, h, hi. I’m…" but Maka interrupted him and said, "I do not care who you are or anything about you. I am here for one thing and one thing only." As Maka finished a boulder fell on the young Skull boy’s leg. The young Skull boy was trapped on the ground and in pain. "And now will not slow me down, it won’t hurt too bad when the rats come out to eat you... But that’s just the rats".
Maka turns and walks off and as the Skull boy was screamed for him to comeback, he thought, "he would have been a useless outcast anyway".As Maka walked further and further down into the bowels of the cave the screams from the boy got lower and lower until it could no longer be heard by Makas ears. As Maka walked, he heard a noise coming from deeper inside the cave. He unsheathed his sword and continued to walk deeper into the cave. As he walked he found himself at large crevasse. He sheathed his sword and pulled out a grappling hook, which he had in his pocket and runs toward the crevasse. He jumped. As he flew through the air he used his grappling hook to swing from a stalactite at the top of the cave. He jumped to the other side, but left his grappling hook behind. He knew he would need it there later.
He unsheathed his sword as he walked on. He stopped. It sounded as if there were thousands of wings flapping ahead of him, yet he still stood there. He started to run right towards where the noise was coming from. All of a sudden a wall of bats hit him, knocking him down on his back. As he got up the thousands of bats surrounded him. He swung his sword wildly into the cloud of bats left and right. The sea of bats flew past him as he stood there, surrounded by hundreds of dead bats around his feet. His sword and clothes were soaked with the blood of the foul beasts. He continued his journey. The sounds of flapping wings were again heard behind him. The bats had turned around to attack him. He spun around with his sword. The bats once again turn around for yet another attack. He stuck out his sword to brace himself for the impact. As his grip tightened his shield began to glow. The blade also began to glow and formed a bubble around him protecting him from the onslaught of bats. He found it hard to hold the shield. He couldn’t hold it for any longer. The shield fell and the bats hit him, knocking him unconscious.
He woke up in the spot in which the bats had knocked him unconscious. Maka stood up and checked himself for injuries, but he found nothing but minor scratches and bruise's so he picked up his sword and shield and continued on his journey. As he walked, the cave floor began to slope, and the air around him became heavy with moisture. He soon relized that he was going deeper and deeper into the earth as he fallowed the path. As he walked he noticed how more and more spider were gathering on the wall. Soon there was no visible wall that was not coved by the spiders, and as he continues he saw a fork in the road. He stood there trying to decide which way to go, one full of spiders, the other clear and no sign of visible danger, but he felt compaled to fallow the path with the spiders on it. Maka picked up a rock and threw it on the spider less path. As soon as the rock made contact with the ground the floor collapsed in to a pit of gaint spiders.
One of the spider crawled out and tryed to lunge at Maka, but he rolled to the side and pulled out an arrow and shot is at the abdomen of the giant spider. The monster inraged by what Maka had just done lunged a second time at him but agin Maka rolled to the side as the monster flew back into the pit in whick it came, but the other spiders in the pit miss took the falling spider as Maka and ripped it apart eatting till they got there fill. Maka egar to get away from these monsters continued down the path till he cam to a large open area within the cave. As he started to look around he heard footsteps, so he ran and hid in the entrance. The person who walked was wearing a green tunic and matching green hat, and on his back seemed to be a a wonderfully powerful blade and a shield decorated with what seemed to be three triangles. The man in green put his hands on his head, and he started ranting and mumbling to himself "No, no. It was not a dream, or was it? No! Yes it was I! No, I did not kill the King. But Ganondorf; he is out there. Get out of my head! Call me crazy will they. Will they! I, I will destroy all who don’t believe me. Then they will have to believe that he… He is back! Yes. Yes they will!"
As Maka watched in fear, something jumped on his back. He wrestled with it and threw it off his back. He turned around to see what it was. He realizes that it was the young Skull boy who he shot in the leg. "I will kill you, Maka." Screamed the young Skull Kid as he got up. He then dived at Maka. Maka holds out his sword and stabs him in the stomach. He then used his shield to push him off his sword. The young skull boy’s body rolled into the large room were the man was. The man unsheathed his sword and pounced on the young boy’s body, cutting him insanely. Maka turned a ran to tell all what he had seen. "Hey you! Stop!" screamed the man as he gave chase. Maka ran. The man was not too far behind. He ran until he reached the crevasse. He jumped for the rope, caught it and began to swing when an arrow zipped through the air and cut the rope. He fell down into the crevasse as the person looked on in amusement.
As he fell, his life began to flash before his eyes, and all thoughts of death left his mind. He was at peace. Then.... he hit the ground, and blacked out. Once he awoke, he realized that he had landed on something soft, and he was fine. Once he got up to see what he had landed on, he realized that he had landed on the bodies of fellow Skull Kids who entered here the week before. As he looked at the pile it occurred to him that they did not die from the fall, but were beaten to death by a blunt object. As the fear inside the boy grew, he turned and ran from the bodies. But as he turned, he realized he was in a coliseum-like place, and all the doors were blocked by huge iron bars.
As he stood there thinking about how he was going to get out of this horrible place, a gate on the far end of the arena opened. He did not think why it would open-he just ran for his one chance at freedom. As he reached the door thinking, "Finally, I will be free," he ran in a creature roughly 3 times his size. The creature picked him up with one of his massive arms and threw him across the room. He used his Sword Shield technique to keep from getting hurt from the throw. As he let down the shield, and got back up to his feet, he got out his real shield. It was equipped and ready in his left hand, while the sword was ready in his right. As he gazed upon the horrible abomination of a thing-with its massive arms and the club it wielded in its right hand, its single red eye, and two giant legs- he became enraged that his only chance of freedom was lost to such a horrible thing. The monster charged at him, but because of Maka's smaller size it was easy to dodge.
Maka charged at the monster while his back was turned, and started swinging his sword at the beast's right leg. This angered the behemoth as he turned to attach Maka, but he back flipped away from the monster. He quickly pulled out his bow, and shot it at the monster. The arrow grazed the monster's eye and the monster went berserk. It hit Maka with the club, sending him flying across the room. Maka was hurt, but he could still fight. As he got up, the monster charged at him. Maka slid between his legs and stabbed the sword deep into his right leg. The monster fell to its knee. Maka let go of the sword, grabbed his bow, and ran up the back of the foul beast. He jumped and started a front flip. While upside-down, he shot an arrow right into the eye of the monster. Maka finished the front flip, landed, and turned around in time to watch the monster fall. Maka had defeated the monster and completed the challenge. He was now a real man. He walked over to pull out his sword, but it was stuck too deep in the leg of the beast. He had an idea-he grasped the sword tightly in his hand, and activated the shield. The leg was blown apart. He realized that the same gate that the monster had used to enter was now open. He ran past the open gate and saw light. As he reached the light, he realized that it led back to his village.
He jumped out of the cave and landed on top of a tree, thankful to be out of such a horrible place. As he looked down on his town he witnesses a horrible sight. The town was set ablaze, and the mystery man was in the town square, slaughtering everyone in sight. He watched his father die at the mans feet. Then, the unknown man looks up at Maka in the tree and points his sword at him. He smiled, sheathed his sword, and rode away on his horse. The sadness in Maka's heart was only rivaled by the pure hatred for the man who took his family from him.
Maka jumped out of the tree and ran to find his father's body. As he ran, he looked around at his once magnificent village. There were bodies strewn all over, most of them seem to be killed by stab wounds, but there were also some that were killed by the sharp tip of a wooden arrow. The arrows were cast from a mighty bow and there were several burned bodies that seemed to have debris from a bomb that exploded near by on them. All the buildings in the town were set a blaze by a mighty fire. It seemed to spread too quickly to be set by natural means. As Maka continued running, he came upon his father. Maka's father had a big wound in his chest as if a blade was run threw him. Maka fell to his knees next to the body. “Father, I am sorry I could not save you" tears fell from Maka’s eyes as he continued "but I will kill the man who did this to you!" Maka stood up and ran out of his village after the one who slaughtered all that he loved.
He followed the tracks of the man's horse had left. As he ran threw the lush, green forest, he realized that he has never been this far out of the village before. Maka didn’t care, for in his mind, even if it took his whole life, he will kill the one who destroyed his family. Maka tired and forced himself to take a short break in a small clearing he saw ahead. As he reached the clearing, he noticed a tree on lying on the ground. It seemed to Maka that the tree was too young to have fallen on its own.
All the running Maka had done caught up with him and his weariness grew, so he took a seat on the log. As Maka sat on the tree, he looked around and noticed large foot prints around the basin of the spot of the tree's former position. To Maka, they seemed like the tracks of an animal that had broken into the village not to long ago. As he thought, he remembered that the village elder called the beast a Giant Broara. The Broara had thick and tangled brown fur that was full of ticks and dirt and the great beast had four hoof-like feet. It had beady little black eyes and a drooling snout and large tusks that protruded from its disease infested mouth.
As he thought more about it, he remembered there was a monster on its back. This monster was much smaller than the Giant Broara, but it seemed to be controlling it by sitting on its back and kicking it. It would pull these strips of material in the beast’s mouth to make it move. He remembered that the village elder called it a Moblin, but Maka did not get a good look at the creature. All he saw was that it had green skin and was carrying a bow and arrow.
As Maka tried to remember more, he smiled. The warrior to take out this beast was none other than his beloved father. Maka sat there but soon after he heard a noise behind him. He slowly turned to see if there was any danger. After he turned all the way around, he saw nothing. However, as he turned back, a Skull Kid hung upside down from a vine in front of him.
The Skull Kid stuck out his hand and touched Maka's face. Then it pulled its hand back and smacked him as hard as he could. Maka, now angry at the outcast Skull Kid, unsheathed his sword and swung at him, but the Skull Kid dropped to the ground and dodged the swing. The Skull Kid stood up and smacked Maka again, then backflipped away from him, and jumped and stood on top off a tree trunk and laughed. Maka sheathed his sword and pulled out his bow and shot an arrow at the Skull Kid. The Skull Kid jumped over the arrow and landed on one hand on the tree trunk. The outcast Skull Kid started to laugh at Maka agin, but his laughter soon turned to fear, for what the Skull Kid saw made him slip off the tree trunk and hit the ground and run. As Maka looked behind him to see what the outcast ran from he put his bow away and unsheathed his sword. As Maka looked in the direction of what had scared the outcast Skull Kid so badly he saw a Giant Broara.
Maka ran and hid behind the tree trunk that the outcast skull kid was on. Maka peeked his head out to watch the massive beast as it got closer and closer.
There was a Moblin on its back that seemed to have a whip in its hand. As Maka scanned over the Broara he saw fresh wounds on its face, "probably from the
Moblin" Maka thought. As the beast got into the middle of the clearing the Moblin hit it with the whip three times and the broara stuck its snout in the air and let out a loud snort and slowly lowered its belly to the ground.
"Good, Good" said the Moblin on its back "we shall rest here tonight." "NO," thought Maka "that will make it where I have to stay here longer." Maka sat there contemplating what to do, then it came to him. He sat and watched for the right moment, watching the Moblin as it walked across the green forest floor, collecting red berries from a near by bush. Once the Moblin got as much as he could hold he walked over to his now sleeping Broara and hoped on it back, laid down, and started to eat the berries. Maka being very careful watched as the Moblin ate his fill. As Maka watched he noticed the Moblin began to close its eyes for a longer intervals, but its eyes would snap opean and it would shake its head as if it were trying to fight off sleep, but the Moblin could fight no more and its eyes shut and it passed the barrier into sleep. Maka now knew this was his chance, he got up and slowly made his way to the side of the Broar, stealthily climbed up the side, unsheathed his sword, raised it high above his head, and brought it down on the Moblins neck killing it instantly.
The sword hitting the Broara awoke the beast, but all the whippings that the Moblin gave it merely made it think it was time to go. "Hmm.............." Maka said "I wonder how I get it to move...........GO....no....MOVE!" nothing happened. Maka began to get angry, so he kicked the beast with his heel and suddenly it began to run. Maka pulled on the reins until he got into the direction he wanted it to go. Maka then sat there, holding on to the reins for dear life as this was the first time he has ever rode a Broara. The force of its speed thrashed him back and forth from where he sat. As Maka got more comfortable, he used the movements of the beast he rode to become much smoother and easier to withstand.
He rode on the beast for hours, waiting and watching for any new clue to the presence of the one he was seeking. As he rode, the path he took became more disintegrating until there was no more to follow. All around him were trees, trees so tall you could barely see the top of them. Even with these trees in its way, the Broara kept running. It dodged left and right avoiding every tree in his path, until he came upon a tree that he could not dodge. It ducked its head down and ran right into the tree, up rooting it instantly without even coming to a stop. The Broara ran for another few hours until it came to the end of the forest. It entered a small village where it jumped up on its hind legs and knocked Maka off. It then proceeded to turn toward the forest and away. It headed back into the depths of the forest, and as Maka got up and regained his barring, he saw a young girl who said "Welcome to Kokiri Village!”
"Hello, I am Maka" said Maka as he tried to cover up the fact that he is wounded, "well hello Maka, I am Saria." "Well hello Saria I am afraid I can spend no time in your lovely village and I must go" Maka tries to stomp of around here but as soon as his leg lifted, he fell to the ground and passed out.
Maka awoke in a bed. The bed had a strong stick frame with leaves strung out in-between so you could lay on them. He sat up in the bed and realized that he had pieces of white cloth tied around his wounds. He started to look around and saw a person dressed in green, Maka jumped up from the bed and screamed "YOU" then he collapsed again fore his legs were to weak to hold him. The noise startled the man in green and he turned to look at Maka.
"Calm down Maka." said the man "Where am I, I must hurry, I must kill the one in green, the one with the magnificent blade" said Maka as the eagerness in his voice grew. "calm down Maka, from what it sounds the one you speak of goes by the name of Link, but he is no evil man, for he rid the world of" Maka interrupted and said "I do not care of why good he has done fore he shall die by my blade for killing my family and all I hold dear." " What you say is blasphemy, The Hero of Time would do no such thing, now I will leave you to heal, but as soon a you can you shall leave this village and never return" after the man finished talking he stormed out of the room.
